Listen well Dr. Dean, the window of opportunity is open, for now
Today I visited the DNC website for Georgia. Why? Because I believe that with Dr. Dean we have a spark of hope to rebuild the party that has been hijacked by the same corporatists that own the Thugs. In the past I never worked for a party, but I have worked in several campaigns, as a young idealist canvassing for John Anderson, to Bill Bradley to John Kerry. So this was new.

My intent is to become active in local politics and to essentially BE the change that I want to see.

My experience at the DNC site convinced me more than ever how important it is to get involved.

The Georgia DNC site screams out one thing - DONATE MONEY. That's it. There is no information on events, groups, discussions (there is a blog that I did not bother to go to), or other public efforts. For a novice, grass roots activist, the interface is very uninviting. Were the stakes not so high I would give up on that venture.

Here's an example: I know that my state rep is hosting a public meeting with Georgia Secy of State Cathy Cox. I don't know the date but I have to find it because Cox has aspirations to be the Dem candidate for governor. Cathy Cox invited Diebold into Georgia and has never made any public statements regarding the possibility of election fraud in Georgia. Remember that Sonny Purdue was trailing by 6 pts in the polls the day before the election and he won by 6 pts.

So would it not make sense to publicize this event and get some participation and feedback? Call me crazy.

Sorry about the rant. I know we know what the problems are, and this will be my last rant before I become part of the solution.

1. The blog might have the info you're looking for

Send them your suggestions and check out your local DFA group.

2. I sent a suggestion to Dean via the DNC site asking for
coordination via state DNC sites, much the way we did it with DFA. We'll see what happens. I would not be surprised to see more activity on state DNC sites as time goes on. But you might email the GA DNC and suggest it. Don't be afraid to communicate and make suggestions! We're all in this together now. :hi:

3. This was my first "real" campaign
I'd only ever voted in past elections, except for a mock election in high school, when I was also a John Anderson person.

Wisconsin seems to be a bit more organized. Maybe it comes from being a swing state, or because we have a Dem governor and a Dem Mayor, but I think we have some decent grassroots interest here.

I definitely agree that local is where to start. I'm actually starting with my city mayor's race and working up from there. A new experience for me. Then in 06 I need to save a Dem Gov and a Dem Senator from extinction. After that is done, then and only then will I worry about 2008.

I heard from Class Warrior, who is involved in DFA here in Milwaukee that Dem Party reps have been in touch with them, hoping to keep the grassroots ball rolling and keep those who got involved this year engaged. And I've been contacted by my county Dem Party already. In fact, they had an organizational meeting on Jan 20th during the Inaugaral. And as soon as my taxes come in, I will become DNC.

I'm actually feeling quite hopeful. I like Dean, I just love Harry, Boxer is fearless, and my buddy Kerry isn't going away anytime soon (go Shadow Prez). This could get quite interesting.

4. The Dems Party in Ga needs a LOT OF HELP!!!
I was appaled when I voted in Nov. and found that almost all the Pubs on the ballot were running unopposed!

I tried as much as I could, to get involved. I went to meetups every month from March till October. Sure, the first ones were for Dean, but I continued to go after he dropped out. I made calls, sent letters, and made the first political donations of my life. I couldn't go door to door, because I can't walk too well. We were a small group, but we tried very hard.

I can't because I can't drive due to an illness, but I believe HOward will spark others in Ga. to get off their butts and do something!
