Dems in Freeperville fight back: my local report
So far I've gotten three emails from these folks but haven't been able to make a damn meeting. Even so, it sounds like our local Party is hitting the ground running.

Three things they're doing:
1. They're having us call our Assembly Reps to fight a tax freeze that the Repubs in the state legislature are proposing. Connected to that, there's also a rally set up to support our Dem Governor's new state budget. The Governor has managed to turn in a budget that also includes a tax freeze, but manages to also increase the education budget. The Repubs around here love to talk about tax freezes, as we are one of the highest taxed states, but the freeze they're proposing does nothing for schools. Hence, the action alert to call and email and fax. Even some Repubs in our area are endorsing the Gov's plan, saying it's superior to their own. Encouraging non-partisanship. Woo hoo.

2 The local party has also finagled themselves some permanent office space, which is a new thing, I think. Normally I don't see them around unless it's election time. They're setting up shop in one of the rooms at the local Union. So I suppose if I can't make the meetings, I can at least show up there and see what's the happenings. Nice that they'll have a permanent presence.

At the last meeting, the new chair's goals included increasing membership, getting the membership rolls on computer, and establishing a web presence. Of those who couldn't make the last meeting but were interested in joining, alot of them were kids from the two local colleges. So we are seeing an influx of involvement from young voters. Cool. They're staying involved.

And to that end.

3. A peace rally is planned involving students from these two colleges, one of which is my alma mater community college. Huzzah! It's during the week, but maybe I can still go.

This is probably boring as heck to everybody but me. But you gotta understand, this is NOT Milwaukee, ie the Dem stronghold. This is Waukesha (I know, means nuthin') the Repub stronghold. I mean, I live in the middle of Freepertown.

I am quite encouraged by these guys' spunk. AND, I am told we got more Dem voters in that area out to the polls than in 2000, so I guess the Dems here are encouraged. Me too.

1. Congratulations!
So, if you still have a job, a nice little check to them with a note from you would be in order?

2. Yawp, just waiting for ye ol' taxes to appear
Then I will join both locally and nationally.

Gave about 200 or so locally and nationally during the campaign. It doesn't sound like much, but I'm tight on cash at the moment. So just as soon as the IRS coughs up, the Dems will get some lovin'.
