Our food supply could very well be in jeopardy
with this bill and with the bio-genetic hybrids (which by the way are "owned" and made not to reproduce). In order to grow crops we will only be able to get approved seeds from patented owners, just like Monsanto is doing in Iraq with corn...

1. What the article says I agree with
Billions of dollars are spent annually eradicating exotic plants and animals that are imported and become invasive. The nursery industry took this upon itself in the US in the last couple years when several introduced ornamental plants became invasive weeds when faced with no natural enemies in their new environment.

There are tons of non-patented seeds to choose from, if a farmer wants to use a patented one it's his decision. The USDA and land grant universities release hundreds of non-patented varieties every year.

The UN outlawed the so called terminator gene that caused second generation seed to be sterile several years ago. Some second generation seed is sterile because they are hybrids, this has been going on for over a century and isn't an effort to protect patents but rather the natural consequence of crossing two incompatible plants.
