Food for thought: The deep south has a higher African American population

Than any region in the country. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina all have African American populations that are almost double the national average and are rivaled only by the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

9 out of 10 African Americans voted for Kerry.

It's also why demographic trends - increasing numbers of African Americans and other minorities - will eventually return the South to our hands, barring some other unforeseen political developments.

If your point is that nearly all white persons in the South are Republican, I'm not going to put up a serious fight. The Republican Party has mastered the art of race-baiting and it's very clear that there is a direct correlation between party affiliation and racism, at least in the parts in which I've lived.

by very large majorities.

that's one of the problems with wanting to boycott the south. i always thought a better idea would be to visit the south but spend your money in the democratic areas and businesses.

the same should go to businesses in the other parts of the country also. even in states like California and New York, boycott the businesses which give a lot to republicans and republican causes.

The fact is that while Democrats don't need to get a majority of the white vote in these Southern states, they still need to get a respectable percentage, and Democrats seem to be having a harder time doing that lately.

It's also naive to thing that the Democrats will continue to get 90% of the African American vote indefinitely. The fact is that the Democratic Party can't really do anything for the African American community -- or, for that matter, any other constituency -- as long as the Republicans control all the branches of government. What incentive is there to keep voting for losing candidates?

and then get the Hell out of dodge. Unfortunately, this party has marginalized the black vote and the repubs are trying to use it to their advantage. They have already made some inroads in some blk churches with the faith base initiative. This is what gave them the cushion they needed in Ohio.

I hate to beat a dead horse(donkey), but w/o the black vote this party would be nothing. We DEMand your respect!
