First lady shakes up White House staff
Changes point to new approach for husband's second term

By Kelly Wallace, CNN

Wednesday, February 16, 2005 Posted: 6:55 PM EST (2355 GMT)

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Behind the scenes, first lady Laura Bush is making big changes for the next four years.

In the past two months, Mrs. Bush has hired a new social secretary and chief of staff -- and fired chef Walter Scheib III, who had been at the White House for 11 years.

"We don't usually think of Laura Bush as firing anybody," said Ann Gerhart, a political reporter for The Washington Post's style section. "She is just as loyal as everybody else in the Bush family. So I think it's very unusual."

"He has said that Mrs. Bush wanted to set her own style, and he had tried to adapt and wasn't able to do that, so she is moving on," Gerhart told CNN.

that the Shrubbies wanted him to quit cooking French food, since France
wasn't kissing his ass. I think French cooking is his specialty.

Also, the chef was a bit annoyed at having to incorporate some products of Dubya's
high rolling donors that had to do with food and beverages into his recipes.

On the Inaugural Menu: A Dish to Please Every Donor

"WASHINGTON, DC—Just call him the "Iron Chef" of the White House. Executive Chef Walter S. Scheib III is facing a major culinary challenge: how to create an inaugural menu that pays tribute to the brand names of a dozen top Bush campaign and GOP donors. From Coca Cola to Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Pilgrim's Pride turkeys, Scheib's dishes must satisfy the most powerful appetite on Capitol Hill these days: the taste for money...."

Yes, that old traditional Thanksgiving Day family recipe. Yum, Yum.
Would those be the chocolate filled powdered sugar or the strawberry jelly donuts? I'm trying to think which would taste best smothered with gravy?

21. I don't believe she had anything to do with the firing of the chef
this is more manufacturing of the first frump as a determined forceful woman with her own mind. I don't believe she is in charge of anything at all.

Someone else, not her, decided that the chef made a mockery of the corporations such as Krispy Kreme and decided that Laura should take the blame (initiative) for firing the chef.

The next propagandist buildup was the report that she was reading a book about American cuisine and that is the clue that this firing is about a chef who was not American enough for the propaganda and marketing of the current, classless inhabitants of the White House.

What the hell are her "stylistic requirements anyhow? She has no style, never has and never will no matter how hard the media tries to play it up. She simply Step fords herself into what she is told to do by those who control her and she is stupid enough, or comfortable enough to do so.

Showing her tongue when giving a speech or whatever the hell she is doing in that photo makes her look like a teen feigning shock.

Are they implying that - gasp - something was WRONG with the old Laura Bush, described at one point as the "comforter-in-chief"?

gag.

She'll still be the same waste product with the croaky, fucked up smoker's voice that sounds 20 years older than she is.

In his first interview with the New York Times after being installed in 2000, when * was asked to comment re. how he feels about being the leader of the free world, his reply, astoundingly, was that the food at the White House is fantastic, especially the desserts, and his number one concern was watching his waistline.

48. Well, they already lost pastry chef Roland Mesnier.
From what I've heard from a friend who studied with Mesnier, the guy is a true artist and really worthy of the position in the White House.

Let's face it: The Bushes are not presidential. There are hardly any state dinners, and of course the White House door is open to fewer and fewer people, and not just because of security concerns.

Wake me when we've got a real first lady and president.

...this is a president with pork rind tastes on a Beluga budget.

I'll pass on the donut-stuffed turkey, thank you.

I'd read the horror story of the chef having to prepare that dinner utilizing products from Bush's "pioneers" and "rangers," but this is the first time I've seen the whole menu.

You're right, not presidential at all.

52. It seems like it's impossible for some people to see her as...
...anything other than a "good person." They want to keep propping her up as the benchmark for modern-day first ladies. They want to keep defending her, singing her praises, telling us how she's going to get gang kids off crack.

Yeah.

Even though she's stumped for the Chimp and his agenda. Even though, when asked whether or not John Edwards was on par with Dick Cheney, she replied "Oh, my goodness, NO"...

She probably IS "just as loyal as anybody else in the Bush family."

That's half the problem. I'm sure there's a broom in her broom closet, and I'm sure it's been ridden more than once.
