What is this or better yet who is this? (about Dean, Kerry in footnote
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 10:32 PM by candy331
I read an the article in the Nation Magazine talking about Republicans who are Jews, saying that with Dean as chairman middle of the road centrists Jews would be very turned off and wondering if they had a home in the democratic party. Hits on Dean we know by Republicans of course...On this PDF was the statement and then a foot not that caught my attention that read:
Jay Footlik, John Kerry campaign liaison to the Jewish community, Forward

Have any of you read the Nation's article today and who is this Jay Footlik?

1. This is Pug propaganda. Isn't Dean's wife Jewish?

2. I can't picture this happening
The mainstream media is always trying to get our base voters to defect. The Jewish community turned out for Kerry in record numbers. Why doesn't the press ever wonder if parts of the GOP base will break for the Dems?

3. Dean is a moderate himself, married to a Jewish woman, raising his kids
Jewish, and by all reports is very committed to the defense of Israel, including the promise to give Israel MORE money for defense than even Bush promised.

So, I'd say whoever wrote this is causing unnecessary worry. And, what part of the article was the footnote used for?

5. Here is the article....it is the usual PNAC type suspects.
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/outrage?bid=13&pid=2200

"As RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman praised the election of his new counterpart Howard Dean, influential Republican front groups were already planning a mendacious offensive against the new DNC chair.

The first attack came courtesy of the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), a big money pro-Israel lobby group linking Jewish-American neoconservatives to the Christian Right and Israel's Likud government. On Monday the RJC began running full-page ads in major Jewish newspapers across the country featuring a large photo of militants strapped with explosives coddling a young Palestinian boy. Above that arresting image is a quote by Dean: "It's not our place to take sides." Below the photo are quotes by Democrats critical of Dean. The ad effectively equates Dean's election with the appeasement of suicide bombers."

It is pretty much expected by this group, and I understand they do not speak for many in the Jewish community.

Never forget the letter signed by Pelosi and many other House Dems, so you can just figure it will get ugly.

6. Is this what you are talking about?
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/outrage?bid=13&pid=2200

This isn't an article bashing Dean - it's an article about the RNC bashing Dean.

If this isn't what you are talking about, maybe you could post the exact part of the article and url you are talking about.

I do remember a number of articles in the Nation that criticized Dean before the primaries mostly for not being sufficiently liberal, but thoat tone changed to one of respect the way I viewed the articles as his candidancy progressed.

Thrifty.
