DU Is Enamored With Gannon - Missing The Bigger Story.....
Sure the Gannon story has intrigue and sex written all over it - but this will be casually explained away and supported by the MSM toady's and will dissolve.

The story that is more damming are the 52 pre-911 warnings. Remember 3000 people died because *Co was on vacation and instituting an "anything but Clinton" approach to the administration. You want to get the American people insensed and behind some movement to "impeach" * - this is the story.

Remember Condi's and *'s comments immediately after 911. "If we only knew we would have moved heaven and earth." or how about - "We would have never expected them to use a plane." Remember Condi's testimony to the 911 Commission - lies- maybe?

Think about how they tried to discredit Michael Moore and F911. *'s aimless staring when told of the attack and his continuance of reading My Pet Goat. They had all the dogs called out to push this one under the rug. Why? They were running scared. They didn't want the American people to connect the dots. They wanted it to go away. Just like they are making the 52 pre-911 warnings go away.

Remember how the country united after 911. I believe that the country would again unite if they believed that * could have done something to warn, minimize or prevent 911. LIHOP - MIHOP - we'll never know because we're concerned about a male escort.

We now know they had additional warnings over and above the Aug PDB. Well at least some of us know. Those that caught the story in the day and a half that it hit.

Except we here at DU are spending all our energy around some two-bit male escort that asked some questions of *. But how did he get there people? They put him there because they wanted him there. And just as easy as they did that - they will undo it and make the story die.

Sure - he was in the WH. Sure he could have endangered *. Sure it makes them look bad. But didn't WMD make them look bad? Didn't not finding who perpetrated the anthrax attacks make them look bad? How many other countless lies and missteps made or make this adminstration look bad. But what happend - Oh! - a second term.

Oh - but you say Gannongate has legs. It has SEX in it. Remember what brought down Clinton. We can bring down * the same way. Except - who has control over the House and Senate? Who has control over the courts? Who has control over the media?
Where are the Dems? Are they making the kind of issue about this as the Repugs made about BJ and the Blue Dress. Doesn't look like it to me. Sure they're talking about it on AAR. But that's just till the next * misstep comes up. Maybe Negroponte as Intel Czar? We ought to get a lot of mileage out of this one. And in the end - he will be confirmed and put in office.

In the mean time - the 52 warnings have come and gone. The bulk of the American people don't even know that they existed. What - the story was alive for a day and a half.

Well the 911 Commission report is on the coffee table of "patriotic Americans" and it is billed as the "final" report. They wanted us to believe it was final. That's why they made it affordable to anyone who wanted to purchase it. Get it out - make people believe and put it behind.

Why didn't these 52 pre-911 warnings get into the report? Because - well ya think - it might have cast some doubt or blame on *Co?
Oh - we'll release it - but after Nov. 2nd. After we're comfy back in the WH. And you know - people will be so sick and tired of all this politicking - we'll make it go away fast. We'll get them upset about SS. We'll get them upset about 150 social and environmental programs getting cut from the budget. And just in case those don't work - we'll throw in a male escort in the WH.

Where is MSM on this one? Where are the blogs? Where are the 911 families? Where is DU?

52-pre 911 warnings - is the story!!!!!

I've vented now - thanks.

1. At least AAR covered it well.
They were all over the FAA warnings story for days.

Now, if only Brit Hume would cover it...
That would be rich.

2. The fogging of the American public
In some respect - it could be more likely that some people would notice the Gannon story and get a clue about how the WH is manipulating the news.

In a way - it's all the same story.

"If we only knew we would have moved heaven and earth."

The economic ruin of our country, 9/11 revelations, the Iraq elections, Syria and Iran, Negroponte... who knows what all they would love for everyone to be distracted from.

of it, alone, should have sent his re-elect numbers into single digits, but it did not. We all knew there were plenty of failures, purposeful and otherwise, prior to 9/11. And yes, it was all confirmed in the past week. Clearly, to a significant number of our fellow citizens, it did not matter, so if it takes gannon to bring down the chimp, so be it. There are so many damn scandals, we need to throw all of them and see which one sticks.

10. To How Many Of Our Fellow Citizens Do You Think This Gannon .......
story matters. Outside of us following this here on DU or on the internet - do you really think this makes a hill of beans to the majority of American people.

The Rush's and Hannity's of the world will just say - those 'libs' will just pick at anything to bring this fine, upstanding president down. And the 52% of Americans that voted this group in will just agree.

Let's see Rush and Hannity - defend 52 pre-911 warnings. Let's see how they justify that. Whatever it is - it will be a half-assed attempt - because it's hard to defend that we knew something was up - but failed to take any precautions. Except for Ashcroft and Mayor Brown.

Eventually - perhaps even those 52% that voted for * might even begin to start thinking.

4. I agree with you...
... but only to a point.

The fact is, the 52 warnings can and have been spun away. People have given the Bush** administration the benefit of the doubt and any revelation that comes forward at this time is pretty unlikely to shake that, unless the MSM gets behind it. And they aren't.

However, the Gannon story is full of the bullshit that captures American audiences. Scandal, sex, homos in the white house - the MSM might not be able to pass that up.

People can rationalize the warnings away. Who hasn't looked back and wondered how they missed the signs of something to come? You might think, and I might think, that the administration intentionally missed these signs, but for the average American to believe that - they have to believe Bush** is a monster. You and I might have no problem believing that, but it will take a lot more for the average American to believe it.

So, the G/G story might look like small potatos to you, but IMHO, it has more potential to turn folks against Bush** than anything associated with 911, short of a smoking gun audio/video recording, ever will.

14. We're Hoping the MSM Gets After the Gannon Story....
why can't we channel that energy to get them to cover the 52 pre-911 warnings.

Whether the administration "intentionally" or "unintentiionally" missed these signs - it was negligence. Something could have been done to make people - more aware - more vigilant - at airports. Do you think if we - as the American public - had some fair warning - that perhaps we would have had some "Let It Roll" people on those two planes that hit the towers? Maybe crash the plane in the river instead of the towers.

Come-on - we're being sucked into another Rovian distraction.

28. Agreed. OF COURSE the unheeded warnings are a huge story.
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 12:35 PM by calimary
But they're not getting covered. They're complicated and the minute it's mentioned that this has been covered before, that's ALL it becomes - oh, old news, we already went through this!!! "Fully vetted," dontchaknow?

But THIS story - this one DOES have potential, because there's sex involved. STOOOOOOPID, I know. But that's the one and only hook they had to try and hang Clinton out to dry - the only one that seemed to stick and capture people's imaginations, and get them whispering and oohing and ahhing and tsk-tsking around the ol' watercooler.

STOOOOOOOOOOPID, certainly. But this may be THE one.

After all, did anybody care, last November, about all the lies and incompetence and shell-game-explanations for why we went to war, and EVEYRTHING ELSE? No. It was the "values" crap. The gay marriage baloney. THAT'S what fired up enough people to get off their lazy, apathetic asses and put bush back in the White House.

So, as worthy as the 52 unheeded warnings story is, and it IS MOST WORTHY, it's not the one that might push this snowball off a cliff. Incomprehensible, isn't it?

And, incidentally, Gannongate is also a 9/11-related story. As in - we have a phony guy, with a phony name, passing around phony credentials, with a dicey background, and WE LET HIM INTO THE WHITE HOUSE AND THISCLOSE TO bUSH - for - what? TWO YEARS?!?!??!?! If THAT isn't a World Class security breach, I don't know what is.

Check Maureen Dowd's column in the NYTimes today...

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/17/opinion/17dowd.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&position=

Oh yes, and I almost forgot (SHEESH, how COULD I?!?!?) that this same phony guy with the fishy background ALSO gets to see, or to be given, some hush-hush documents that unveil the identity of an undercover CIA agent who'd spent more than 20 years tracking WMDs and the nefarious types overseas who were trying to broker and buy them. Do I hear a SECOND World Class security breach? In THAT regard, anyway, this story is seriously larger than just about anything else. "Eight inches cut" doesn't even begin to measure it.

5. You are right, but Mangate will stick
9/11 is more important but Mangate will stick and sell. That is our opening.
And as the "wounded beast AKA * & Company" staggers under Mangate then
we stick 'em w/ 9-11. Eyes on the PRIZE

However one of the big things from Mangate is the manipulation of the
message by a vast criminal enterprise know as the * Presidency.

8. How Many Other Scandals Of *Co Have I Read The Same Thing Here.....
this one will stick. Well - none - so far has. And this one won't either. Why? Because the Dems aren't going to push it and even if they did - they're powerless to make anything happen. Katie Couric may talk about it - but when it doesn't get play beyond Keith 7 Countdown - it will go away.

But 911. The vision of those buildings being hit and falling. 3000 people dead. The horror. The fear. This was imprinted on the minds of all Americans and for that matter people all over the world. That won't go away. Just ask people to recall what they were doing when JFK was shot.

We here at DU are preaching to the choir. We get ourselves so excited about the latest *Co scandal and talk it up amongst ourselves until we are convinced that - this is the one.

We all thought that Kerry was going to win. Look at all the run up of internal conversations we had on that one. He lost - fairly or not. But that's behind us now too. On to 2006 or 2008.

911 is the type of thing that won't go away. 40 years after JFK was shot - we still are struck and shocked by it.

Just think - channel those feelings with the fact that we had 52-pre-911 warnings. And yet - it still happened. Get the American people to think about that.

If the shoe were on the other foot and Clinton or Dems were in power - how do you think the other side would have reacted. What would they have said about 52 pre-911 warnings?

Just look what they did with the BJ and Blue Dress. and no one was attacked or killed. a war wasn't started because of it. 100's of thousands of people weren't caught up in it and died. and our military wasn't called out to serve two and maybe more tours of duty to give Monica freedom.

34. It's the Al Capone Effect, he had too much "cover" for his criminal
escapades so they got him on tax evasion.

bush* has WAAAAYYYYY more "cover" for his criminal enterprise than Capone ever could have dreamed of, and part of that "cover" is a veneer of "moral superiority". jimjeff guckannon has just exposed the soft underbelly of that "moral cover", so THAT'S where you attack. That doesn't mean the criminal enterprise is unimportant, it is THE reason for taking him down in fact, but he's currently NOT vulnerable in that realm.

18. yeah but all the warnings aren't really news
We already knew that multiple gov'ts around the world warned Caligula. FBI and CIA agents warned. A briefing went to the ranch and interrupted his vacation with news that Osama was planning to attack soon. He refused to allow his vacation to be interrupted.

All this has been known a long time. So Chimpy got 52 warnings instead of 37 warnings before 9-11, big deal.

It just isn't news because people just don't care. I care but I'm only one person. For whatever reason, people don't want Osama caught and don't want any accountability for 9-11. The election said so.

So the warnings are old information that really we already had.

Gannon and the whole concept that a gay hooker gets access to the President is new information that might actually stir some of the passive idiots off their couches. Or it might not. But at least it is NEW information. Those of us paying attention may have already known about the bald fetish, Victor Ashe, Karl Rove, etc. but the average Joe Wingnut didn't realize that his glorious leader was quite this fabulous. "It's the hypocrisy, stupid." Don't crush average gay couples for a cheap vote while having tighty-whitey bald fetish gay orgies with PAID professionals in the White House, thank you!

Neither story seems to be a "big" story with our close-to state-controlled media, but I say we should at least give the newer story a chance to spread. The 9-11 story has had its day and failed to arouse sufficient citizens to make any difference.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

22. Remember People - It Was 911 That Made This Presidency......
without it - would we have the Patriot Act, The Iraqi War, The Axis of Evil, Condi as SOS, Gonzales, Negroponte, War on Terror, and on and on and on? *'s presidency was in the toilet. There was no way he would get a second term. Think of all the misery he has brought to both the American people and others.

If 52 pre-911 warnings were heeded - perhaps we could have averted 911 and everything that followed. Now we are so mired in the mistakes of this administration - we may well be on our way to WWIII - Syria and Iran have formed an alliance. Iraq's right in the middle.

Sure it could be argued that if it wasn't 911 - *Co and the Neocons would have come up with some other way to accomplish what they are trying to accomplish.

I don't care if it is LIHOP, MIHOP or IHOP.

The story is not Gannon - it's 52 pre-911 warnings.

Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 12:14 PM by Vinnie From Indy
As you state, the media toadies will spin, cover and lie for ShrubCo. and they will do it regardless of the story. From our perspective, the Gannon story is MUCH easier to understand for your average Joe and thus, it is has a greater chance of gaining traction. ShrubCo. has had years to saturate the general public with the false perception that Shrub is the "warrior king". Tearing down that facade will be much more difficult than pushing a story like Gannon where the WH operatives are still reeling trying to counter the scandal. They are not nearly as prepared to fight against the Gannon revelations as they are the warnings.

25. Gannongate is the bigger story
It doesn't matter how many pre-9/11 warnings Bush got. It could have been 552 or 5,552. It doesn't matter if a tape surfaces of Osama bin Laden personally warning Bush on 9/10 to evacuate the WTC. This shit doesn't stick to Bush. His people don't care. They just blow it all off and keep movin as if nothing is wrong. And Congress and the MSM keep their mouths shut.

But Gannongate will resonate in the red states. It will resonate in the churches. Only something like Gannongate has the potential to demoralize the religious right and cause them to lay low.

All it needs is a special prosecutor. And they only way there will be a special prosecutor is if the outcry is loud enough that our new AG can't ignore it.

27. Gan/Gurk Story is the key to how the Media supresses anything about
Bush, and how even our Dems have allowed it to go on. Only Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and John Conyers have addressed this by trying to introduce legislation to bring back the "Fairness Doctrine."

So...Sex is what we have...but the sex leads us into the heart of how the Bushies have operated. That's why we have to stay on it...like the RW did on Paula Jones and Monica. They hammmered it and a whole network focused on it "MSNBC" with most of the "mouthpieces" who are now in this administration on there driving that Clinton was a Moral Pervert.

Now the Chickens come home to roost. I wish it wasn't about Sex, but about the lies about 9/11 and the misery that we've gone through here and the innocent Iraqi Citizens have had to deal with because Bush ignored warnings. But, there it is. And it's the Sex which could hopefully unravel them. Nothing else has worked...but the Media is the Problem...gotta start there.
