By Jeff Gannon
GOPUSA News
January 15, 2003
WASHINGTON (GOPUSA News) -- In a briefing to the press, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said that the United States would oppose Libya's candidacy to become head of the United Nations Human Rights Commission. Boucher cited U. N. sanctions against the African nation and its poor human rights record as reasons that its chairmanship would be "not appropriate."

GOPUSA News
February 14, 2003
WASHINGTON (GOPUSA News) -- Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) began Thursday's Senate session with a promise that Democrats will continue to filibuster the nomination of Miguel Estrada "for as long as it takes." Daschle repeated a demand for privileged documents from the Solicitor General's office. Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) who led a filibuster against the Civil Rights Act in 1964 joined the debate to speak against Estrada's nomination as well as to tell stories about his youth.

5. He didn't get paid.
That was one reason he couldn't get a Capitol Hill Press Pass. Eberle was going to give him a stipend to get him in but they rejected that as well.

From the Standing Committee minutes of February 27, 2004

TALON NEWS
The committee discussed an application from James Guckert, who writes under the name Jeff Gannon, of Talon News. Mr. Gallegos and Mr. Keenan briefed the committee on the rules that govern membership in the daily print galleries. Mr. Keenan said Talon News is an on-line news service owned by Bobby Eberle. He said Mr. Eberle told him Talon News is an all-volunteer news service, though since Mr. Guckert’s application was submitted, a stipend was arranged that would provide more than half of Mr. Guckerts income in an effort to comply with the gallery's requirement that correspondents be paid, full time employees of the organization for which they are applying. Mr. Keenan said Talon News is the primary news supplier for GOPUSA, also owned by Mr. Eberle, and provides its news service at no charge to other organizations. He said Mr. Eberle plans to syndicate Talon News for profit in the future, and was told that currently, some revenue is generated by advertising. Mr. Keenan said information has been requested about Mr. Guckert's role as executive director of the Free Speech Foundation in order to determine whether it would conflict with gallery rules regarding paid promotion, publicity, and advertising.

After discussing the rules and the application, the committee agreed that it lacked sufficient information to evaluate the application, and agreed to write a letter to Mr. Eberle seeking more
information regarding the organization's relationship with GOPUSA, its corporate structure, and funding.

From the minutes of April 7, 2004

On a motion by Ms. Carey, seconded by Mr. Holland, the committee voted 5 to 0 to deny the application for credentials of James Guckert, who writes under the name Jeff Gannon, of Talon News.com. The committee agreed to notify the applicant by letter.

Dear Mr. Guckert:

At its meeting of April 7, 2004, the Standing Committee of Correspondents voted unanimously to deny your application for accreditation to the Congressional Press Galleries.

Press Gallery rules provide that applicants must establish to the satisfaction of the Standing Committee that they meet the committee’s criteria. Committee guidelines require that on-line ublications “must charge a market rate fee for subscription or access, or carry paid advertising at current market rates.” You have not demonstrated to the committee’s satisfaction that Talon News has any paid subscribers, that paid client newspapers publish Talon News stories, or that it is supported by advertising.

The application for accreditation to the press galleries states that “members of the press shall not engage in lobbying or paid advertising, publicity, promotion, work for any individual, political
party, corporation, organization, or agency of the Federal Government.” Talon News has not demonstrated to the satisfaction of the committee that there is a separation from GOPUSA/Millions of Americans.com.

Gallery rules and the application state that the principal income of correspondents must be obtained from news correspondence intended for publication in newspapers or news services. The committee feels that paying a single reporter a “stipend” does not meet the intent of the rule.

You are invited to re-apply should Talon News’ circumstances change, or if additional information becomes available.

Sincerely,
Jim Drinkard

3. There is NO Way that Guckert/Gannon wrote all of those stories!
I'm sure that GOPUSA's "volunteer" minions penned those stories (based on GOP talking points and WH press releases), and GOPUSA put Guckert/Gannon's name on them.

Look at the dates.

4. Gannon took credit for a lot of "articles"
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 12:34 PM by DulceDecorum
As did Steven Gregory when he - er - um - was on Armstrong Williams' payroll.

Most of the speculation about Williams’s not-so-secret life comes from a 1997 sexual-harassment lawsuit filed by a former male employee of Williams’s media company.
Williams met the employee, Stephen Gregory, in 1994, when Gregory was 25 years old, and a trainer at a local gym Williams frequented.
Williams first recruited Gregory as a volunteer, and later hired the workout trainer as a media producer in late 1995, keeping him on, even though he had little media experience.
According to media reports, other employees in Williams’s company complained that Gregory did not show up for work on time, and that he tried to take credit for work done by others.
<snip>

As well, the suit states that Gregory resisted these advances, was fired after just nine months on the job, and filed his harassment suit shortly thereafter.
The lawsuit eventually was settled out of court, based on undisclosed terms. Gregory moved to a job on Oliver North’s radio program.

6. This guy must just be a name only
The GOPUSA site must have used Gannon/Guckert as a false person to run those articles.

Now here is a thought: what if the Gannon name was pure and total fiction, as in not representing ANY real person. The name would be used to shell out these articles, and the articles were all written by various people who put this pseudonym on the top.

Then one day, Guckert is found and a warm body is matched to the lifeless author. Guckert gets put up to doing the half-assed little charade of journalistic t-ball (not even softball) with the shrub, and a full personality is born.

The whole thing would have to be built on a purely speculatory basis, but given the resources available, this could get done.

MOTHERLODE!!!!
I'll post a few here.
**** **** **** ****

Finding The Foot Behind The Talon
Much is being made of the 'resignation' of Jeff Gannon, a faux-journalist suspected of being a conservative shill in the White House press briefing room and now also believed to have some ties to lifestyles that don't jibe with the party lines.

But what about Talon News? According to whois records, talonnews.com is owned by Endeavor Media Group in Houston TX -- a company with a PO Box and a fake phone number listing. When checking on endeavormediagroup.com in whois, the same info comes up -- but endeavormediagroup.com is a Forbidden domain. Also, googling "endeavor media group" gets you nothing. It's like this company doesn't exist.
And it didn't -- until Monday.

Endeavor Media Group, LLC (39068802O)
info@endeavormediagroup.com
P.O. Box 891354
Houston, TX 77289
US
Phone: 999-999-9999
Record expires on 07-Feb-2008
Record created on 07-Feb-2005
Database last updated on 07-Feb-2005

So what's the deal? Talon News changed ownership right around the time the Jeff Gannon controversy was about to boil over.
But wait, there's more.
Talon News' "#1 client" GOPUSA.com, is also, as of Monday, owned by Endeavor.

Domain Name: GOPUSA.COM Administrative Contact , Technical Contact : Endeavor Media Group, LLC (39068802O) info@endeavormediagroup.com P.O. Box 891354 Houston, TX 77289 US Phone: 999-999-9999 Record expires on 27-Sep-2007 Record created on 27-Sep-1999 Database last updated on 07-Feb-2005
How to get to the bottom of this? How about checking out the other site Talon seems buddy-buddy with, MensNewsDaily.com. They don't seem to be a part of the Endeavor/Jeff Gannon media empire, but they presumably have at least corresponded with someone pulling the strings.
http://www.leadpencil.net/blog/archives/000234.html

Thanks for that link, E-mart, I was looking for a way to plug in Endeavor Media Group LLC. Not sure if this is the same company or not.

Hi,
I have also been looking into the Michael Aiello name after being encouraged to do so here.
I also found the Welch relation, and in fact now believe Michael Aiello and Mike Lasalle are the same person. In other words Aiello operates mensnewsdaily.com under the alias Lasalle. I managed to find photos of each of them and they do look to be the same person.
Now what does that amount to?
Also of interest - Lasalle/Aiello is apparently an army vet. Could be a link there.
Oh and mensnewsdaily.com appears to have been shut down today too. I'm guessing Lasalle/Aiello is feeling some pressure.

GOPUSA is a Republican activist organization, based in Texas, that is tied to the republican party at both the state and national levels.
GOPUSA and Talon News have both ignored interview requests by AVN.com. Both Websites have removed information regarding Gannon, including nearly all of his work for the last two years.
Talon News now directs interview requests to Jennifer Ohman, the Director of Public Affairs for Oliver North’s Freedom Alliance.

The Raconteur then has this to say:
February 15, 2005

Giving Up On The Foot
The Texas secretary of state's office (Corporations division) wrote me back:

"We show no listing for Endeavor Media Group LLC or Endeavor Media Group as a
corporation, limited liability company, limited partnership or assumed name
filing in our records."

That said, I'm not like the folks on AmericaBLOG or anywhere else who have the time and resources to cover this story nonstop -- this blog is almost an afterthought for me nowadays. So despite the mini-fervor resulting from this, I'm just going to let this all alone now. Do with it what you will.

Lastly, I don't see why any blogger hasn't capitalized on Scott McClellan's assertion that anyone who writes for a regularly publishing publication can get access to the White House press briefings. Go, people, go!
http://www.leadpencil.net/blog/

KUDOs to our brethren.
And thanks for a job extremely well done.

16. I read each of these articles looking for anything that stood out and
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 04:48 PM by caligirl
this is what I found.

The articles 1/17/03 through 2/05/03 read like they came off a standard talking points page. They are lacking in any journalistic quality. Just straight Repug policy from the White House. There are quotes but they appear to be nothing more than recording what a speaker said to a gathering. Just party line story.

Then I noticed a change on 2/13-14:

Feb 13, 2003 Article attributed to Jeff Gannon
Democrats Declare Filibuster On Estrada.

In citing a quote GOP/USA News is used . Not Talon and not Gannon

"Speaking to *GOPUSA News,* LULAC National Executive Director Brent Wilkes said, "Of course we are profoundly troubled by the handling of the Estrada nomination."

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:vrla12_Y8NMJ:gopus...
-------------------------------------------------------------------

1st quote noticed from Ari Fleischer in any of these articles is here.

Feb 13, 2003 IAEA Declares North Korea in Breach of Accords
Jeff Gannon

Quotes Are from Fleischer for the first time in the collection of GOP/USA articles posted here at DU beginning with the date Jan 17, 2003.
"The threat posed by North Korea acquired a new dimension on Wednesday when CIA Director George Tenet told the Senate Armed Services Committee that North Korea has a missile capable of striking a target in the Western United States. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer downplayed the revelations as "reflecting old intelligence," but took the opportunity to stress the importance of developing a missile defense system."
"Fleischer also praised the IAEA action, calling it a "clear indication" that the international community will not accept North Korea's nuclear program."

Again a quote is made to "GOP/USA News" not Talon News, Gannon is named in all the articles.

Dems Continue to Block Hispanic Court Nominee
By Jeff Gannon
GOPUSA News
February 14, 2003
"In an interview with *GOPUSA News* on Thursday, Robert Deposada, President of the Latino Coalition said his membership has mounted an intensive letter writing and telephone campaign to sway Senators to end the filibuster and vote for confirmation. His organization also placed a full-page ad in Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper on Monday in support of Estrada."

I thought in all the information out there on this that GOP/USA was not a news organization. Feb 13 is the first time they quote Ari in any of these articles. Are there more articles to check?

18. Here are some more 2003 Gannon articles, but not in order
This is the Google link, caligirl.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=+site%3Agopusa.com+++%22gopusa+news%22++gannon+2003+&btnG=Search

I sifted out the January and early February articles just to show that GannonGuckert was indeed some sort of presence in Washington at the time.

17. "free speech foundation" and a question
sorry, I know I'm a little slow on the uptake here...I googled Free Speech Foundation and found a really long thread on dKos which I couldn't possibly sort through completely... maybe those of you who go back and forth or who know more about this whole thing could answer something: y'all do know that the Free Speech Foundation is "the trade association for the adult entertainment industry," too, right?

http://www.aclj.org/News/Read.aspx?ID=566

The other thing that gave me the willies, so to speak, was that when googling "free speech foundation" you turn up organizations in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan near the top. There are some really scary geopolitical machinations going on in that part of the world. Not saying they're related.

19. They ARE related
and no you are NOT paranoid.

The self-same bunch of neo-cons and their supporters show up in every place where minerals abound and money is to be made.

And just to prove that statement,
I refer you to the ongoing and under-reported scandal concerning Riggs Bank, and the aborted coup of Teodoro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea.

If you have the time and the inclination,
check out this thread.
The Dogs of War
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=125&topic_id=9558

I have not been able to keep up with events but as you can see,
it involves the Pentagon,
Doug Feith,
mercenaries,
a US registered plane former Air National Guard plane that took off from
Pope Air Force Base,
the Bahamas,
the British SAS,
Executive Outcomes and Sandline (private military contractors)
Mark Thatcher, Son of Margaret,
MI5 and Mi6,
British Parliament,
Lebanon,
Spain,
the Democratic Republic of Congo (where N4610 claims to have been going)
the African Union which has outlawed coups and supports
the efforts of South Africa and Zimbabwe which foiled the caper.

And that is just a partial list of the characters.

I left out the oil companies
and the think tanks set up to "promote democracy" which is really an American euphemism for "kill them all and let me have their oil or diamonds or whatever the eff they have."

That Caspian Basin is RIFE with neo-con involvement.
It rather seems that they wish to acquire an empire that extends from Egypt well into the former Soviet Union. Russia is so going to spank them, and the US. And just think, this lot can hardly manage Fallujah.

Nah, you are not paranoid,
you are simply looking at the deeds of people who are completely delusional
and overcome by religious fervor.

22. Hi DD--oh, I know they're into Azer and the Stans
what I meant is that I don't think that Gannon's Free Speech Foundation and the Administration's various geopolitical entanglements are necessarily related. But thanks for pointing me to that thread, which I hadn't followed yet.

Y'know, if it's hard for us to keep this scurvy cast of characters straight, I wonder how "they" do (whoever the "they" in question might be at any given moment). I mean, seriously. I've given some thought about how such large-scale, time-spanning operations might be organized so that it wouldn't be a complete house of cards. I have to imagine it wouldn't be unlike a terrorist organization or the mafia. Somehow most of those groups continue to exist, even when big arrests are made or internecine events lead to attrition (i.e., guys getting whacked).

It seems to be, at its base, all about placing trust in the right people or accurately reading the characters of those who are untrustworthy. Family ties and cronyism become very important in such models. Gee, doesn't sound a thing like the Bush family...

20. A bit about Bobby Eberle
Eberle is not a long-time conservative activist. In college at Texas A&M, he wasn't one. He got involved only after settling into an engineering career track. "In high school, all I cared about was tennis," he said. "My second ambition, if tennis didn't work out, was to be an astronaut." Neither one panned out, and Eberle was bitten by the political bug a decade ago. "I volunteered in 1994 to help in a congressional race," said Eberle. It was a good year for Republicans but Shelia JacksonLee got elected in a heavily black district. "We got smoked," said Eberle.

Despite the setback, Eberle became involved in Young Republicans and was chairman of the Texas state chapter from 1996 to 1999. He had a different concept for GOPUSA when it was originally launched in late 1999, said Eberle. "The original mission was to have a web design company for Republicans," he said. "In summer 2000, we relaunched it as a site for conservative news, information, and commentary. We want to educate folks on the conservative philosophy."
<snip>

"Talon provides news to GOPUSA, Men's News Daily, and some other sites," said Eberle. Other than its annual conference, GOPUSA is an all-Internet operation. GOPUSA's e-mail service "goes out to 300,000 subscribers," said Eberle. "In September 2000, we started with 400."
<snip>

Despite sharing the same last name and buying the "Millions of Americans" Internet petition company from him recently, Bobby Eberle is not related to direct mail baron Bruce Eberle. Bobby Eberle hopes to transition out of engineering into politics and news full-time. "I believe in enacting conservative ideas through Republican solutions," he said.

Bobby/GOPUSA is linked to Conservativetruth.org
http://www.conservativetruth.org/links.shtml

from whence cometh this little gem.

Conservative Truth reports on news that the major media censor. We offer original commentary on the major moral, social and political issues of the day from a Biblical, moral conservative viewpoint. We're not ashamed to say that America is the greatest country on this globe, but neither are we afraid to point out areas where our politicians are leading us astray.

Most Americans believe that patriotism is a good thing; that government should be kept out of religion, but that our Founding Fathers never intended to keep religion out of public life; that murder of an unborn child is wrong; that homosexuals should not be given special privileges; and that our children should not be taught revisionist history which makes them ashamed to be Americans. Why then are the voices of the great majority of Americans not being heard today? Because we have allowed the liberals to take control of our schools, our courts, and our media.

21. A bit about Bruce Eberle.
Dear Americans,
Since it's birth a little over two years ago, MillionsofAmericans.com has collected and delivered over one million petitions and letters! Together we were a powerful voice in Washington in our first year, and that only increased in our second.
For those of you unfamiliar with our activities, let me recap our past projects:

Shortly after the November 2000 election, we launched Election Integrity 2000 to preserve and protect the fair election results in Florida. For two weeks we collected petitions to Clay Roberts and Katherine Harris asking them to stand fast and Certify the Bush Victory in their state. Altogether, we delivered over 335,000 petitions!
When the election results were finally certified and Al Gore still refused to concede defeat, we launched a new campaign -- this time we collected Letters to Al Gore from people all over the country demanding that he concede. We collected and delivered over 282,000 letters to Al Gore's office.
<snip>

Now the GOP has a historic opportunity to lead with control of both houses of Congress, and the White House. This is not the time to back down. Republicans need to lead now more than ever, and to implement the type of sweeping vision for America that Ronald Reagan began, and President Bush is embracing even today.
There is still a great deal of work to be done, but together, we've already done a great deal. I am confident that as long as citizens like you and I remain faithful to our cause, and tireless in our efforts, that together, we will prevail.
For America,
Bruce Eberle

March 24, 2004
Greetings to MillionsOfAmericans.com Activists,
I have some good news for you. As someone who opted-in to receive communications from www.millionsofamericans.com you have been receiving regular updates on conservative and Republican issues from me. You're one of nearly 250,000 patriotic Americans who have opted into the MOA web site and have taken action on behalf of important conservative projects and programs.

The good news is that www.millionsofamericans.com is now combining forces with www.gopusa.com to bring you even better reports and news on hot conservative topics. Bobby Eberle (of what you might call the "Texas branch" of the Eberle clan) founded www.gopusa.com several years ago. With news sources across the nation and in key places, Bobby Eberle has created one of the best outlets for conservative news and insight in the nation and today www.gopusa.com has some 50,000 opt-in subscribers.

In fact, he has done such an outstanding job that he will now be sending conservative commentary and action items to you. I'm stepping aside to let this talented and well-informed young man take the helm of www.millionsofamericans.com and I am confident he will do a great job - giving you the same top quality conservative news and giving you an opportunity to have a powerful impact on events that affect our nation.
<snip>

Before I sign off, let me take this opportunity to thank you for all your efforts to preserve our American way of life. Today our traditional American values, our Constitution, and our heritage of individual freedom is under attack from liberal groups and organizations who have no regard for the foundations of a free society. Unless you and I and leaders like Bobby Eberle continue our efforts to defend American institutions, sound economic policy, a strong national defense, and our traditional moral values, our nation will be in great jeopardy.

Accordingly, I strongly urge you to continue your fight and give Bobby Eberle and www.millionsofamericans.com your continued support and assistance.
This is a struggle we must win.
For America,
Bobby Eberle.

23. Unintentional humor
Posted: February 4, 2005
Mr. President, I am writing you about concerns that are shared by most Republicans and Americans. I do so both with immense respect for your character which brought in a fresh wind that has cleansed a despoiled and stained White House. And I thank God for the fact that a man with your courage and willingness to defend America was president when we were attacked on 9-11. It is daunting to think what state America would be in right now had you lost in 2000.
