Bash Lieberman, but Love Specter????WTF???
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 11:25 AM by India3
Senator Joe Lieberman, a conservative democrat, is continuously bashed on this website. However, when it comes out that Specter, a liberal Repuke, has Hodgkin's, there's a friggin LOVEFEST for the guy.

CHECK THE VOTING RECORDS!!!

http://nationaljournal.com/members/news/2005/voteratings/senate_composite_liberal.htm

People complain about the two party system, but will bash the more liberal of the two (Lieberman) and love Specter based entirely on where they stand in their party. If Specter had the same record and was a Dem, he would be bashed too. Hypocrisy? What are your thoughts?

1. Lieberman is unfairly bashed here.
It's DU's official 'favorite past time'. Never let the fact that he has a lifetime rating of 78 from ADA (one of the highest in the US Senate, and higher than Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who everyone here adores ) stand in the way of a good bashfest. To some here, the fact that Lieberman is a defense- and foreign-policy hawk makes him evil personified. Go figure.

4. True. You can only falt him on defense policy.
Lieberman has been OUR STRONGEST ally on opposing extremist nominees to the Federal Courts.

Spector gets what he deserves. :eyes:

7. That's BULLCRAP!!!
Lieberman's remarks during the election cost the Democrats several seats in congress and, most likely, cost us the Presidential Election. Lieberman betrayed the democratic party and he betrayed the American people. He's just another crook raking in the bucks off this war.

HE'S CERTAINLY NO FOREIGN POLICY HAWK!!!

If he was, he wouldn't be redirecting our sights from the terrorists in Saudi Arabia to country's not giving us control of their oil, such as Iraq and Iran.

He deserves every bit of bashing he receives. He's a traitor.

2. Actually.. I think the "Lovefest" is an act of human compassion
If Specter wasn't diagnosed with Hodgkins, I'd imagine their wouldn't be anywhere near as much love flying his direction.

Just because the Freepers cheer when one of our public officials dies or gets sick, doesn't mean we have to stoop to their level and return the favor. Kill the repubs with kindness and let them bury themselves with their hatred.

6. Oh come on...
You think that DU would show the same "human compassion" if Rummy or Falwell or Limbaugh came down with this disease?

8. This is absolutely true...
And my dislike of lieberman comes mainly from his rhetoric, not his record. His record is fine, but he should be barred from speaking on camera as a representitave of the democratic party...

13. I don't see any lovefest there.
Just some basic human concern for a man who's battling cancer. My guess is that Lieberman would get the same kind of response if he were diagnosed with cancer.

I do see some value in having a few voices of moderation in the Repug party. I don't see a whole lot of value in having Democratic Senators with neocon sympathies, but that's a separate issue from wishing someone the best when they have cancer.

14. While specter Has My Sympathy For Being Sick,...
...he is still a "little nixon" (as a Philly judge once described him) who is all too willing to kiss the asses of the republican ruling faction. As a former PA resident, I can say it was our fault. We could have had him replaced by Bob Edgar in '86 or Lynn Yeakel in '92, but we couldn't get either of them over the top.

If given a choice, I would take Lieberman. I wouldn't exactly be holding my nose, but I might not like the smell too much.

17. I've known Arlen and his wife Joan since I was a kid
they attended my synagogue, if somewhat infrequently, and I even know one of their sons (the gay one). He was never a good man personally or politically, but I sure as hell won't wish him ill health. I'd be more likely to wish him and Joan another bad face lift so neither can be seen in public again for the next year and a half.
