IF GHWB is "Deep Throat"
then i'll have to upgrade my opinion of him.

from "Burn the earth he has walked on"

to "I would'nt piss on him if he was on fire".

believe me, that IS an upgrade.

1. If he is, he did it for purely selfish reasons.
Probably wanted to purge the Republican party of "liberals" like Nixon who, after all, established the EPA and visited those commie bastards in China.

10. Oh yeah, forgot about that one!
Like father, like son. Spoiled, petulant, and vindictive.

11. Truthfully, I read it so long ago that I can't recall the details - but
I do recall that the theory was somewhat plausible.

2. It would make Watergate have even more the
appearance of a coup d'etat.

3. The how and why of it is described in this book
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0806520337/104-2052032-0845526

Of course, this is the same book that says the Bush family and the Hinkley families knew one another - :tinfoilhat:

But, it is an interesting read.

9. Not so tinfoil hattish...
... actually. Hinckley's father was from Dallas and ran Vanderbilt Energy Services. It's very likely Bush Sr. would have known Hinckley, Sr., because of both geography and mutual business interests.

4. Has anyone asked GHWB the direct question?
Apparently Pat Buchanan has been asked the direct questiona and said no. This should be Journalism 101 for anyone with the opportunity to ask any of the Nixon/Ford era staff.

8. Deep Throat and the Gannon/Guckert case are basically
cut from the same cloth. Woodward, working with CIA and military intelligence, accepts information he is given unquestioningly, and some way has to be devised to get this information into print. A handy vehicle is a fabricated source (or in the case of Gannon/Guckert, a fabricated reporter).

Please read Bob Harris' piece on Deep Throat at http://www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/07.03.97/scoop-9727.html

""What's missing is an understanding of Deep Throat, Woodward's garage-lurking source who guided the reporters to some of their biggest leads. If he was just a concerned citizen, great. But if Deep Throat had his own agenda, then he used the Washington Post to shape the story for his own purposes and got away clean.

"I have told Woodward everything I know about the Watergate case, except the Mullen Company's tie to the CIA."--Robert F. Bennett, testifying before House Special Committee on Intelligence, July 2, 1974.

Robert Bennett was the head of Robert R. Mullen and Co., a CIA front headquartered in the very same building as the CIA's Domestic Operations Division. The Mullen Co. did legitimate PR work; it also did PR for other CIA fronts and provided cover abroad for CIA operations. Bennett's most notable employee was Howard Hunt, a former chief of covert actions for the Domestic Operations Division of the CIA.""

Deep Throat is merely a literary device Woodstein used. They'd have been fired today for doing that.

15. Could that
be a cover up or something? To keep people from knowing the truth and then out of nowhere spring it out? I've thought about that and Poppy is EVERYWHERE.

16. savoire faire
yes he seems to have a thumb in every major pie from Bay of Pigs to profiting from 9-11-01. Only natural to me that he played a role.
But then, he was never a CIA agent when he was given the keys to the agency ya know?
