****************did you know this.............thought these GOP'ers didn't like lawsuits........I know it was a while back.but I just read this on a Slate chat board.

Sen. Santorum's wife wins lawsuit

Saturday, December 11, 1999

WASHINGTON -- A Virginia jury last night awarded the wife of Sen. Rick Santorum $350,000 in damages after she charged in a lawsuit that a Virginia chiropracter's negligence caused her permanent back pain.

........She had sought $500,000 against Dr. David Dolberg of Virginia, because of pain from his 1996 treatment of her.

"Mrs. Santorum has been vindicated," said her Pittsburgh attorney Heather Heidelbaugh. "She was injured permanently through the actions of a chiropractor who acted negligently."
snip

.................the senator saying: "The court proceedings are a personal family matter. I will not be offering any further public comments, other than that I am not a party to the suit. But I am fully supportive of my wife."

1. But, but... that's over the presidents plan for capping damages at 250k.
How can that be?

Why would a Republican senator want damages that hurt doctors and keep them from practicing their love?

Fucking hypocrites.

8. Are you in Virginia...you can have him....we don't want him.
His "explanation" is that his children are young and he works in DC and blah, blah, blah.....

9. Must remember this was in 1999
The Santorums maintain a Penn Hills, Pa., residence but have a home in Herndon, Va., a Washington suburb.

10. Santorums also sought to have all of the records pertaining to the case
SEALED. And also, the judge reduced the jury's award to $175,000 because she (I believe it was a she) stated that the Santorums elicited "undue sympathy" because of Ricky's position as a Senator.

12. Does Santorum support caps on lawsuits
I know that the president does, but does Santorum?

This is really only an issue if Santorum has talked about and support tort reform that limits suits.
