Is something wrong with *'s left eye? Seriously.
I just watched about 15 minutes of Bush's press conference tonight, which was re-run on CSPAN.

Something is not right with his left eye. It was VERY obvious.

I don't know if the lighting or the camera angle contributed to his left eye looking strange. However, it looked really sickly--almost looked like a glass eye.

The iris portion of the left eye looked larger and darker than his right eye. It looked like he'd just been to the doctor and had his pupils dilated.

I also noticed that the iris portion of the eye was slightly crossed at times and rolled slightly upward a few times.

Furthermore, I never noticed it before, but * projects the right side of his face slightly forward, keeping the left side less dominant to the camera. It's possible he's doing this because of the eye.

Also, I noticed that the eye differences were more pronounced when he wasn't smiling or making other animated facial expressions. When he was listening to a report question--and had little facial expression--the eye differences were more evident. Maybe this is why he smiles and grins so much. When he's squinting and smiling--the eye oddness is not as noticeable.

Has anyone else ever noticed this before?

2. I was wondering if he has "lazy eye" after seeing the debates
on big screen tv set...yep, it looks pretty wierd.

of course if the theory(ies) that he may have MS, or had a small strokelet or Bell's Palsy are true, this may just be another symptom

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass but I cannot STAND that guy so I never look at him.

But, by your description, it sounds like something is wrong!!

I think something is up with his health anyway, though didn't 23 doctors say he was in great shape?? (They used an odd expression but I don't recall it)

I would like another doctor to give an honest opinion on the 'state of the preznit' because there is definitely something wrong with him. Then
there's the back bulge that looks like a defibrillator. If he's about
to drop, I think we all need to be advised.

11. perhaps he knows that the right side of his face appears friendlier?
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 10:04 PM by Lisa
Various DUers have noticed this -- his right eye seems brighter and his smile often curves up on the right but is more neutral on the left side of his face. I'm sure that *'s coaches have mentioned this. The man literally is two-faced! So perhaps he's intentionally using the smiling side of his face when he has to appear pleasant.

I should note that Canada's former Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, had suffered nerve damage and hearing loss in one ear due to a childhood illness -- it did show up in his face, especially in close-ups.

p.s. what you observed about the squinting and smirking -- when * is laughing, the differences in his face even out. Perhaps the damage is most apparent for subtle motions?

15. I first noticed it in the first debate
as a physician I was much more taken by that than by any "box on the back"--facial droop at that time--since then sometimes he seems to have it and other times not. The simplist explanation is Bell's Palsy but that is not a politcally loaded kind of problem--you could just say--hey, the guy's got some Bell's Palsy (most common cause in the New England area is Lyme Disease.) No word from his legions of support staff though.

Why doesn't the media do the obvious and say, "you know the bloggers have been blogging for months now about the weird facial droop Bush seems to have. What's up with that?"

Want to pass the question along?

When John Dean started hmmming about scandel possibilites for the administration in Worse than Watergate--he talked about medical illnesses.

Any rumors.

Which reporter wants to open the sluicegates by asking the obvious question. . . Does the president have certain health problems that might affect his judgement soon

And how is Cheney's ticker?

17. several pyschics have said he will have to resign
in his second term due to illness. Remember how he wouldn't take his physical until after the election. I definately think something is going on with him. Why don't they just tell us. I believe he must have problems because he is so hated. All that bad karma on top of everyone wishing you ill isn't easy to live with. Must affect his health.

20. But even Bell's Palsy would spell "weakness" somehow
and their image of him isn't remotely about intellect -- it's about "strength," supposedly. So I think it would be politically uneasy for them to admit to a physical issue.

By the way, since you're a physician: what else would cause half of someone's face to become weak? And is it possible that weakness would show less when all muscles are exerting more energy (a broad smile, for example) than a smaller gesture or expression, involving less muscle strength? (Did that make sense?)

As for Cheney, my hunch is still that he'll resign for "health reasons" to allow an appointed replacement to have the inside track for the 2008 campaign.

I wonder. Bush seems to spend a lot of time out there hacking at brush in his shirtsleeves. Wonder if his Crawford property is tick-infested? Also, he did spend summers in Maine with his parents, for quite a long time.

Another physician's been collecting observations of Bush. Doesn't discuss the droop, but mentions some other things, like the weird jaw movements (some other DUers called it "geeking").

34. there seem to be a lot of guys coming out of the woodwork ...
... who either have a physical resemblance to ** or have access to Hollywood makeup artists who could do a fine job of uglifying them.

Steve Bridges (does the regular ** impression on Leno's show -- very pro-Bush, also an evangelical Christian)

(with Bush)

(after the makeup procedure)
--sounds like a lot of trouble, but it demonstrates that you wouldn't need an exact lookalike -- just someone of Bush's build, who could do the voice and motions, and whose facial structure (especially the distance between the eyes) was similar

19. Can't be Bell's Palsy
I had a bout of Bell's Palsy about 15 years ago; and it's "total" in terms of the paralysis. If affects the entire side of one's face, and one cannot blink, move that side of the mouth (other than when letting it hang open), eyebrows don't move, etc. It tends to last 6 weeks to 3 months and then just as mysteriously as it came on, it leaves (for most people).

It was highly annoying and extremely noticeable; however, not a serious condition.

I just saw LameDuck on tv -- and he blinked both of his eyes, arched both of his eyebrows, etc -- so whatever issue he's fighting is longer term and probably shows up most when he's very tired. Remember, he even went to bed at 10:00 on Coronation night.

He's fighting some type of disabiity, but unless someone from the inner circle speaksout --we may never know for sure until some autobiography comes out in 20 years.

25. You are right
Bell's Palsy involves both the upper and lower half of the face--not always frank paralysis but usually the symptoms are just as you discribed. It's looked to me that Bush's is lower only but it also seems to come and go and to be weakness (parasis) only. Now a wandering eye though and suddenly we are out of my primary care (ER) mode and into neurology at--at least--the advanced beginners level

We may not be able to know now but
1) the question needs to be asked directly--any health problems Scotty?
2) any midnight visits to Walter Reed should not go unblogged
3) By the way WH, the bloggers have noticed--time to up the terror alert

* in an interview.

I hear what all of you are saying about the drooping face and the sagging appearance on that side. I've noticed that stuff before.

However, if you just take a look at just the eye--there is something really bizarre about it.

It looks fake!!! It looks like a glass eye! It had a "dead" appearance to it, whereas the right eye looked normal and like a live person was inside. It was almost reptile-like!

I have never noticed it before, but I noticed it tonight and it was just so odd!

If he has a glass eye or something wrong with that eye, it might explain the accidents. His peripheral vision or general eyesight may be affected.
