Molloy Is Saying The Democratic Party is Dead Should We Change the Name of
DU to the Progressive Underground? Oh - doesn't sound so good when we abbreviate it --- PU.

2. No, I think most of us still believe in Democratic principles
even if the party is currently fairly weak. That seems to be changing rapidly.. Dean and Boxer come to mind.

16. I agree
I don't think the party is dead. I just think it's really weak. That's one reason I'm so glad Mr. Dean is the chairman of the party now. I hope he can get the democrats to get spine's and back to the orginial roots of the party. Stand up and fight. Don't let them take away the party.

3. Don't touch that word. Democratic Party is alive and kicking - it is the
old Republican Party that is dead. Why the neocons even admit this in an article or two. Thus their name: neocons. Meaning New Conservatives.

5. Democratic is a great word too. So is Liberal. And if they get
you to change your names then they can say you really are not the party of Roosevelt, Kennedy et al. And the neocons so want to steal Roosevelt & Kennedy.

Also Liberal were the internationalists and the free-traders. They want to steal that too.

So NEVER EVER GIVE UP YOUR NAME or Your Words or YOUR HEROES.

6. I don't give a crap what some talk show host says
the Party is not dead. Progressives need to aim their fire at Republicans. You never hear any criticism of the Republican party by the right wing hosts. We need to stay on message and stay focused.

7. I like MMalloy and I agree with him on much, but.....
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 12:10 AM by hlthe2b
I think he could benefit from a tiny bit of Prozac. While I vaccillate from "lost all hope and ready to move overseas" to "determined to fight," Mike has stayed in that "near hopeless" mindset for quite a while. I understand, but coping takes at least a tiny bit of optomism and hope. If he's lost all of that, I truly worry for him.

8. He says a lot of off the wall statements sometimes....
and tonight was different, he told us his sister passed away unexpectedly so that could be why he was ragging on the democratic party tonight. He was also upset about Negroponte's appointment.

9. Well, this might not be the best time to judge Mike's opinions......
it was posted his sister died today, so I'm sure he's under some amount of emotional duress. I'd let it pass, probably making a larger point.

10. Mike's Right: The Democratic Party is not representing
...democrats or Democratic principles.

The context was not "his sister died today" it was that ALL the Democratic Senators confirmed Chertoff. And here comes Negroponte! Senator Reid was on Jim Lehrer tonight and said, "He was the ambassador to... a South American country... Honduras, I believe." As if he couldn't quite remember, it was not big deal. Can you say IRAN/CONTRA? Why aren't the Democrats saying it!!

Yes, Boxer is a gem. Why is she standing all but alone?

The Democratic wing of the corporate party does not have our best interests at heart, or America's.

And :wtf: happened with that "election"? The second "selection"? If the Democratic legislators had stood for democracy, we would not have the Bush regime in power. That includes the candidate.

How many more tens of thousands of smart young well-informed people will NOT vote because its even more of a joke now than before Nov. 2?

13. It's the head of the Democratic Party that has died
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 02:39 AM by Selatius
The body is still alive, but it's flailing with weak leadership and has been for quite a while now. The center of power should be refocused around the base of the pyramid where ordinary people are.

Right now the leaders on the national level have the decision-making power. The people either go along with their decisions (pretty easy) or fight against them and seek to remove the leaders (pretty difficult) and possibly fail after tremendous effort is expended. In essence, you're simply choosing someone else to make decisions that you yourself should be making with your neighbors or other likeminded individuals. You're electing masters when you should be electing servants.

Power is too heavily concentrated at the top of the pyramid. Concentration of power in any organization is dangerous.

14. Hey maybe the Dems and Greens should create a truce and form
The Green Democratic Party. The Greens have the heart of what the Democratic Party used to be. The Democratic Party has the dwindling but still sizable numbers. If the Dems stopped listening to the Repubs and stopped taking coroporate contributions and gave a place at the table to the head of the Green Party, perhaps both parties would join. A lot of Greens are pretty stuborn about wanting separatism. But there are other Greens who want to play win/win.

20. the future is now
this is truly the path of the motivated citizen/activist, but the cash only goes to the puppets. Unless votes are accurately counted, nothing can change.

21. Since the cash goes to the puppets of the corporations which means
...essentially all of the representatives in Congress and since the votes were not counted accurately in 2000 or 2004, how does the motivated citizen/activist make the psychological leap from "the usurpers are destroying the country/planet" to "let's make sure the votes are counted NEXT time!"?

it only took me five minutes!

sigh

i say leave the underground alone

BUT create an offshoot of the party and call it the Progressive Democratic Party that would encompass progressives/liberals, greens, foreword thinking democrats, passive democrats, most other types of democrats, open-minded independents, etc.

17. Malloy's got to make a living.
Talk radio host have been known to do a little hyperbolizing, eh?
Last time I checked mike was professionally and personally tight with more than a few Democratic Party insiders, so maybe he hopes it's not as dead as he says.

22. Malloy's goofy rant on Democratic Party should make Rove smile with joy
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 11:44 PM by zulchzulu
Talking about eating your young...

Hey, I like Malloy on most things, but his tirade on how the Democratic party needs to die just shows he's too busy with his kid during the day when he should be doing his homework.

Come on, Mike... don't shill for the Rovester. The best thing you could do to HELP the Repugs is to diss the entire Democratic Party because of a few moderates.

Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

And Mike...if you're reading this...my condolences on your sister.
