25. I did too!
I am proud to have voted for Dennis Kucinich in the Indiana primary in May. Dean had already dropped out and Dennis was the only antiwar candidate still in the run.

Sharpton was just a demagogue that, as it turned out, had taken money from another candidate's campaign (whose name shall remain nameless).

3. I didn't know DK that well then.
But looking back, if I'd known him, I'd have voted for him. As a bi, I got swept up in the Dean movement, but I share more values with him than Dean.

I didn't get the CHANCE. The rest of you decided that before NC ever got through fighting about the repugs trying to redistrict the dems out of any seats in Congress, local or national. We didn't get to vote until way late. I don't even remember seeing his name on the ballot. I did notice Nader as an independent, which threw me. I did look to see if he was on the ballot. I wasn't necessarily going to vote for him, but I did look. By that time, I would have voted for a monkey's ass to go against Bush. I was truly hoping we would win, no matter which candidate got on the ballot. <deeply depressing sigh.>

19. Caucus in Minnesota.
Record attendance. Lots of newbies at the Caucus, almost all DK supporters. Older established Dems seemed a little resentful at our enthusiastic presence. They were all Kerry supporters (The WORD from HQ had been issued).

Kerry won, but DK finished close 2nd in our precinct. Geppie 3rd.

28. many more than were ever counted in California
there aint a doubt about it, his tabulated results in Ca were completely out of line with reality. He could draw a bigger crowd than the annointed ones, and the progressive corners of the state werent about to shun him. How strange the electoral corruption of Calif is never questioned despite numerous in your face examples of complete fabrication of results.

34. **Raised hand**
Did the caucus thing here in Kansas with my husband and one of my sons, the other was out of town or he would have been there as well. We got to the second part but had to throw behind Kerry but we actually did pretty well for Kansas. Love him, will support whatever he decides to do from here on out. In my little area we came in second to Kerry. Clark folks joined us, Edwards folks joined us when they found out that they did not have enough.

41. I did in Minnesota
We had 256 people attending, as opposed to 42 the previous time.

The oldtimers tried to tell everyone that a vote for anyone other than Kerry or Edwards was "wasted," but I got up and said that the caucuses were our only chance to vote for the candidate we really wanted, and Kerry was doing well enough nationally that our votes for other candidates couldn't hurt him.

My caucus ended up with Kerry coming in first, Edwards second (a lot of the Minnesota Dean people went for Edwards, and there were a lot of Dean people in MN, so perhaps Dean would have been second if he had still been in the race), and Kucinich came in 3rd with about 21%.

Thanks to a lot of guerilla publicity and hounding of the news media, Dennis got 17% statewide. I remain convinced that his relatively poor showing elsewhere was related to two factors:

1) A media blackout in most places. This was most apparent in the national media, where DK was never mentioned except to be ridiculed, and where he received less speaking time than the other candidates in the "debates."
2) The "electability" meme. "I love Dennis, but he's not electable" was something I heard so often that I wished I had a dollar for every time I heard it.

Yet I'm starting to think Dean's run was more important. The way I see it, I love DK's policies and love Dean's bottom-up style of politics.

If only we could get both in one man - a "Howard Kucinich", if you will!

Kerry was already the de facto nominee, and I was (and still am) totally more than fine with that, but I wanted to send a message about Kucinich and his ideas being taken seriously in the party.

47. Dennis Kucinich brought me back to the Democratic Party
I'm a bona fide original "Wellstone Democrat". I first got involved in party politics in 1988 after getting to know Paul Wellstone, who was the director of the MN Jackson '88 campaign. He was a true inspiration then, and even though I disagreed with him many times, a great senator, too.

However, by 1994, I'd left the party. Clinton's anti-worker votes on NAFTA and other assorted issues said that he didn't care about the old values of the party. I went Green, and voted that way until 2002.

Dennis Kucinich showed me that there were still good Democrats in the party, who not only spoke to our core economic values, but were also interested in peace and justice, too. I supported his campaign wholeheartedly, with money, time (I was unemployed for most of last year) and even helped on his MN campaign website.

If he decides to run again in 2008, I'd do the same thing. No need to even ask twice!

54. Same here
I was kicked out of the Greens for becoming a Dem PCO. I had intended this to be just for the duration of the primaries, but one thing that I noticed right away was that the Dems have a lot of PCOs and the Greens don't. This is the foundation of electoral politics, and the Greens don't seem to be really into it, though they do a lot of other very good things politically.

Nothing there to not support:

1. Universal Health Care (remember when everyone was saying that was stupid versus all the threads here now saying we have to have it?)
2. International Cooperation: US out of Iraq, UN in
3. Jobs and Withdrawal from NAFTA and WTO (Many people here said that was stupid at the time but now see all the jobs being lost and agree it should be back up for debate)
4. Repeal of the "Patriot Act"
5. Guaranteed Quality Education, Pre-K Through College
6. Full Social Security Benefits at Age 65
7. Right-to-Choose, Privacy, and Civil Rights
8. Balance Between Workers and Corporations
9. Environmental Renewal and Clean Energy (Global warming reports over the last 30 days prove he was right)
10. Restored Rural Communities and Family Farms (Do we really want corporations owning all of our food supply?)

Edit to add - he was against both the Patriot Act and the Drug War - for medical marijuana. If I keep thinking about it, I could fill up a page... Alternative energy.... ) gotta stop....

Primaries are for supporting what you want. Sending the loudest message you can about what you believe the discussion should be.

Most of his issues were the same ones I've been working on for over 30 years. It was a platform I'd always dreamed a president would run on. How could I not support it?
