Word may have gone out in Washington that Guckert had WH access. Anyone observing him certainly knew that he was given leaks to disseminate.

Is it possible that Gannon was recruited? Or pumped (sorry) for information?

This must be considered. The potential for blackmail OF Gannon also exists.

1. What better way to avoid scrutiney for blackmail risk than to

skirt the backround check. If they were blackmailing him that is. or he could be blackmailing those on the outside and sending info back.
Either way the backround check was something they did not want.
