For Rove, Gannon, Drudge, Mehlman, Armstrong Williams, et al, there is nothing inconsistent about supporting Bush's anti-gay policies. They get off on their behavior being "wrong." It's so much more exciting experiencing love that MUST be hidden.
Great Scott! Without the frisson of transgression, they'd have to face the fact that they're merely humping a pasty-faced middle-aged fat guy. Without the social prohibition, they'd have to give their lovers chocolates on Valentines Day and bring them home to meet their parents! Without the closet, they'd have to go to cocktail parties where people would ask: with all your power, can't you get better arm candy than THAT?
Ooooh, no. Better that this love not speak its name.
