Sure a lot of Gannon nay sayers posting, but this is THE scandal!
I spose the numerous threads being posted saying this and saying that might reflect the deeper meaning, but HOLY SHIT BATMAN! this is the beginning of the end of the Bush dynasty and the fantasy world built around their power grabs. They will have nothing left but bullets and bombs very shortly. Watch with the same delight I have as the faithful lose it while remembering the Omaha scandal I have been shaking like a rag doll for years. Anyone who says any aspect of Gannon is a dead end doesnt have what it takes to secure victory. Or they dont want Bush to suffer defeat. Same difference I guess. The house, the house, the house is on fire. Burn Bush baby, burn!

2. I think it's too soon to tell
as it stands today, this scandal doesn't touch Bush. It MIGHT touch Maclellan, but more likely somebody who reports to somebody who reports to Maclellan.

However, it's a delightful scandal - more fun than any that's come along in years. But it will take some new, bigger revelations before this actually becomes something Bush need be concerned about.

Anyone who thinks that all that has been revealed is all there IS to reveal is naive at best.

11. I agree
there'll be more, but I don't think we can anticipate what they'll be. They COULD be nice and juicy, or they could be next-to-nothing.

Certainly there are questions still unanswered, but I think too many here are quick to provide the answers they want without any particular reason to back them up.

I know a contingent here believes Bush and Gannon were lovers - I don't, and I don't believe for a second any such revelation will come out, as much as I'd enjoy it.

This story could very likely end in the Press Office with some unknown junior aide fired.

GW and Victor, Rove, GHWB, Rathergate maybe? Omaha has ALWAYS been my favorite Poppy pressure point, and now its gonna see daylight like never before. Screw the fascist media, they will be forced to follow along while this stuff turns into the black hole for the Bush dynasty.

12. Hey, I agree its a scandal, and possibly THE scandal.
I haven't seen many posts that are denying that. Even the "Man-whore" thread currently up, I think is subtlely criticizing the direction some DUers are taking it without denigrating the overall potential impact of the scandal. But, I can't divine if the OPer actually meant that.

I just refuse to travel down the baseless rumor-mongering path that some are taking. That doesn't make me a nay-sayer. It just makes me one who wants to stay focused on the part of the scandal that will have impact and not make the story die due to some looking silly.

i spose the notion that prostitution is illegal in WDC might be laughable, but gay prostitution in the white house press corp has an odor that just cant be perfumed. I believe there are laws against propaganda that might apply to the various other whores tainted by recent disclosures, BUT the crux of the biscuit is the effect Gannon?guckert is going to have on the Bush faithful, especially the ballyhooed right wing religious sects they credit with everything they have stolen. Thats where the lethal dose takes effect.

Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 06:55 PM by calimary
start to wonder who was giving him all these tips - such as the one recounted by that radio producer who recalls him predicting that in four hours, bush was going to go on the air and announce we're attacking Iraq - and it turned out to be true. If he's getting tips like THAT, who's he close to? Who's he getting it from? Why are THEY leaking that stuff to him? Who's telling THEM to do so, or hinting or giving them the idea, etc. And if he fell into the wrong hands, or some "client" of his was working for the Other Side, what kind of pillow talk might that have produced? A national security risk if ever there was one. Besides, this guy already has proven over and over that he's got some pretty loose lips. He DID like to brag... and not simply about the dimensions of his schlong. Someone who'll brag about that will brag about a LOT of stuff, because that someone is basically VERY insecure, and needing other "attributes" and "perks" and things to fill out his self-esteem gaps.

I mean, if you were in the real, honest-to-God enemy camp, wouldn't you be searching, over AND under the radar, for the exact kind of weakest link this guy is/was?

And remember, too, this is from the "family values" and "I can keep you safer than they can" bunch. Yeah. Sure. With a "loose gannon" like this guy running around with his Brag and Swagger, I REALLY feel a whole lot safer. Yeah. Sure.

i certainly don't. the fact is that he's a prostitute, and that's illegal. he used an assumed name in the whitehouse, when they clearly had to have known his real name. either they didn't know that he was a former(current?) prostitute, in which case it was a security risk; or they knew, and it was a classification risk.

either way you look at it, without dragging in the homophobia, there was/is something seriously wrong going on in the whitehouse.

the security issue of it. We, my brother and I, were drilled our entire childhood on security, security, security. Don't talk, don't say what you father does, where he works. You don't know. Even today, at my advanced age, I never ask what anyone does for a living or where they work.

We were told that we would be tested by operatives of the FBI etc.

How much of it was true. Don't know. BUT, what I do know is that for Jeff Gannon, whomever, to get a pass to the WH Press Room took more clout than you can ever imagine. To get through both the FBI and Secret Service without being challenged.

A LOT of clout.

i don't know first hand about security in various situations, or to get to the president, but i do know from what i've read that the past 4 presidents have been damn near impossible to get near at all, even just to talk to (with the possible exception of ray-gun- hello, he got shot - and clinton, just bc he was supposedly a cool guy)

if we had a good president, i'd love to speak with him/her (i know presidents are busy people); but i don't see that happening anytime soon in the future. kinda sad, really. unfortunately, they have to protect presidents so tightly now that you can't just meet them and shake hands, except in rare rare rare occasions.

on edit: forgot to mention...i think blackmail was a big factor in how gannon/guckert got so far into the press corps.

If we need to use "gay prostitute" to denigrate * then I'm all for it. He is the JERK who proposed the amendment to the US Constitution banning gay marriage. If his words come back to smack him in his ass I'm all for it.

I think the "gay" part needs to be highlighted because * is such a homophobe and so are his followers. So many of these people are closeted gays anyway. It would be the greatest day in the history of * if he or one of his cronies could be caught having gay sex. But it has nothing to do with gay sex. It has to do with Bush's open denigration of gays.

How many powerful men publicly condemned homosexuality but practiced it in private? (There are the rumors about Hitler and Hoover - I'm sure there are plenty more)

I agree that this is a scandal, but I think the heart of it is Bush's manipulation of the press, of which this is part of a larger pattern. Unfortunately, most of us have gotten so hung up in the nekkid pitchers and "do you think Gannon is porkin' Bush's woowoo?" and other such juvenile snickering that the real scandal is getting lost.

Tell me, how does reducing a serious abuse of the public's right to know what their government is doing into playground snickering over peepees and hoohoos and sissyboys, as has happened in about 90% of the Gannon threads here, help bring about "the quick death of a fascist dictator"?

I think the story is WAY big. Let's get it all out in the open (figuratively speaking, of course).

My only cautionary concern is that Guckert will end up being a patsy and the KEY he presents himself as will be thrown away.

I want the whole story out there.

27. I hope so.
But Plame was a much more serious crime and has gotten very little media play compared to say, Gary Condit...

Now, if there was evidence that BUSH or CHENEY were PERSONALLY doing Gucckert, it would do the trick, but short of that, I just don't think non-activist folks care about this stuff at all. Sorry, but they just don't care about anything that requires more than 3 seconds' worth of thought or research.

People don't get outraged when the Bill of Rights is infringed upon. The media drops it because it is bad for ratings.

But give people an opportunity to talk about homosexuality and its effects on politics, and they will talk about it through an entire election cycle.

It's totally salacious and involves White House officials.

Regardless of what real implications it has, this is the angle that will get coverage and ultimately bring attention to the very real crimes that are associated with it.

50. It will deeply wound the Repugs
This is the kind of scandal that has historically pushed regimes over the edge. The Clinton/Lewinsky scandal helped bring * to office. The scandal of the "Queen's Diamonds" weakened the credibility of the ancien regime in France previous to the French Revolution. I have solid Republican acquaintances (I'm in Kansas, for heaven's sake, so don't flame me for consorting with Republicans!) who are already asking questions about this--more as a security breach than sex scandal. Others will not be so kind.

Combine a scandal like this with a regime that has cried wolf once too often, and the ultimate effect could be incendiary! It is like a sore on a chicken's backside that other chickens will pick at. It will eventually do in the wounded chicken. This is going to be fun to watch, because the arrogant Repugs in authority richly deserve it.

It's a fine old espionage tactic. Pillow talk and blackmail. Andby the way, there was a huge gay prostitution scancal in the Reagan/Bush the First White House in 1989. Guess what - that administration derailed the investigation.

I have a thread on the use of gay prostitution (and maybe pedophilia) for blackmail purposes here:

(apologies if this was posted earlier)

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1029840,00.html

TIME Blogwatch

The mysterious tale of JIM GUCKERT continues to unfold on the Web two weeks after the White House reporter (using the nom de laptop Jeff Gannon) resigned. THE DAILY KOS and other blogs forced the issue--prompted by two years of Guckert's asking outrageously slanted questions--by drawing attention to his dubious credentials as an employee of the G.O.P.-aligned Talon News site. Blogs like AMERICABLOG last week gleefully dug up gay-escort sites that feature Guckert, and former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer admitted off-line that he looked into Guckert's partisanship as far back as two years ago.

The minority can only request the majority to investigate. They will laugh it off...but bloggers, like old soldiers, never die...and we don't have to go away, now, do we ?

They will try to lance this boil, but the infection is too deep. Operation Mockingbird, military domestic psy-ops...do they dare to tell the truth and subject themselves to the inevitable blowback ? Or will they set up 'limited hang-outs' like during Watergate and protect the 'family jewels' -- like Bill Colby tried to do ?

and therefore opposition is to be EXPECTED. The reason media is softshoeing this is because they themselves have much to answer for. Their (MSM, corporate media) complicity for decades has resulting in this fiasco, which requires even further kidgloves handling by the military/intelligence/congressional complex.

The handling of Blowback has always been a sore spot for these boys and girls. It requires Sigint/PsyOps and the CIA to operate without detection in the spread of domestic disinformation during wartime.

Do you think Congress will act responsibly ? Nooooo. The Republicans profit from the disinformation the Bush admin is spreading. While the Constitution and the rest of the public is stuck with the bill, of course. BTW, how do you spin Guckert's slamming of "Democrats divorced from reality" and comment on economic issues...if indeed Guckert was operating under a wartime cover program of disinformation ? Just a way to get even more money for DoD in wartime at the expense of the domestic agenda ?

95. It's a Rove Thing
KKKarl is the true scum involved in this. Topple Karl and Bush is brain dead. We need to be pushing our congresspeople to push for a full investigation.

If "Gannon" can get a pass from the FBI, what is up with that? Who hired him? Those are my questions. I don't care if "Gannon" is gay, and I don't think we should be shoving that down the throats (so to speak) of the repukes.

Has a national breach of FBI protocol occurred? Why?

Why, oh, why, indeed, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Representative Kevin Brady?

"This week Democrats, who have serious case of Rove envy, went a little nuts and started sending around information and graphic pictures of Gannon and his porn Web sites. But it is the more routine part of Gannon's life that deserves serious scrutiny. Planting or even just sanctioning a political operative in the WH press room is a dangerous precedent and Karl Rove's hope to become a respected policymaker will be hampered if the dirty tricks from his political past are more apparent than his desire to spread liberty around the globe."

'his desire to spread liberty around the globe.' LMAO!
