Blackmailing closeted gays - a hidden reason for GOP gay demonization?
We all know how the anti-gay campaign of the blivet** administration has been a very successful tool for dividing the country, distracting public attention from real concerns, and giving fodder to the RW fundies. But what if there is ANOTHER rationale, a hidden one, for the vicious campaign of homosexual demonization?

BLACKMAIL. Not primarily for money -- though campaign contributions would certainly be solicited-- but for INFLUENCE and COMPLIANCE. Please bear with my wordiness as I try to explain my reasoning in coming to this idea:

The "Gannon" scandal recalls the Reagan/Bush White House-linked homosexual prostitution ring exposed in 1989. There were many promising leads in the 1989 scandal to many influential government men who were closeted homo- or bisexuals -- congressmen, judges, military leaders. If you have not yet read about this 1989 scandal, you absolutely must. This site has photoscans of the two pages of the Washington Times article on it, and I strongly recommend reading ALL of the article despite the inconvenient format:
http://sf.indymedia.org/news/2003/02/1570946.php
Despite the leads, The Bush/Regan administration derailed the investigation of that scandal. Perhaps it was to protect closetted buddies, but I believe it was also to protect their investment in acquiring blackmail evidence on people they wanted to control.

Now fast-forward to JimmyJeff GuckertGannon of the improbable security clearances, long history in the inner circle of the blivet** administration, and consistent appearance in the center of situations where he knew earlier and more of secret administration doings than almost anyone. For example, this article published yesterday at AmericaBlog (sorry, I don't have the link where it was doubtless discussed at DU):
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/02/breaking-news-gannon-reportedly-knew.html
Title: "Gannon reportedly knew about Iraq attack four hours before it happened". John Aravosis points out the extreme strangeness of this presumed low-level pawn knowing something so secret. Of course, he was also involved somehow in the Plame burning and Rathergate and apparently many other things. He sure was in the loop big-time for a fake journalist and part-time prostitute.

I'm one of the people at DU who strongly suspect that "Gannon" is a covert agent of the White House (for some discussion of this possibility, see the relevant posts in this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=307x49
Perhaps part of his duties, besides being a propaganda shill, utilized his talents and contacts in his other life as a gay prostitute and promoter of other gay prostitutes.

Blackmail leveraged through entrapment of closeted gays or bisexuals with men acting as male prostitues is a traditional favorite ploy in espionage and the reason why closeted male homo- or bisexuals are such a huge security risk. Bush the First, with CIA history, knew that. So do Rove and a lot of other blivet** administration monsters.

I strongly suspect that homosexual prostitutes were used by the administrations in 1989 and now to gather blackmail evidence to control closeted gay or bisexual men in positions of power and influence. Pressure could be applied to ensure silence, support of blivet** administration policies, and willingness to betray absolutely anything and anyone on demand. The alternative would be exposure and loss of career and reputation.

There seems to be an awful lot of closeted homosexuality in an administration so hell-bent on demonizing gays as a central policy agenda. What if this isn't coincidental? What if a homosexual prostitution/blackmail scheme is one of the REASONS behind the demonization of homosexuality by this administration? The virulent anti-gay atmosphere promoted by the administration has in effect made it more difficult for a closeted gay man in the public eye to come out and also made them better targets for blackmail. In effect, it's protecting an investment for anyone engaged in maintaining a blackmail network.

I'm betting that there are a LOT of powerful (like congressmen, judges, cabinet officers, or military leaders) or influential (like journalists, church leaders, union leaders) men who are closetted bi- or homosexuals who are being blackmailed into supporting this administration in all its criminal projects. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a selective advantage to being a closetted homosexual in being selected for an important position. It would make the person controllable.

I really think this possibility should be considered. It's a sort of meta-conspiracy because hyping the anti-gay agenda would be a conspiracy behind the conspiracy of controlling blackmail victims by threatening to reveal their sexual orientation. Of course, gay demonization has been very profitable for the administration as a tool for dividing the country, distracting the public from reality, and feeding their RW fundie allies. But I'm thinking it was also useful for promoting a blackmail scheme. It's the poisonous hate that keeps on giving.

3. That sounds like an extremely plausible hypothesis...
...not as the ONLY reason for the extreme anti-gay agenda of this administration, but definitely as one of the reasons--a fringe benefit, if you will.

5. Yes exactly, a fringe benefit. I strongly suspect blackmail is behind
some of the key support that this horrible cartel gets. Persuasion, bribery and lies can only go so far, and I think they've gone beyond that point to where they need more forceful means to "encourage" influential people to publically approve the propaganda and the disastrous policies.

9. I could see that
And also at the same time they'd be appealing to their Christian base who falls for them. It seems all the really far out there Christian leaders (like Falwell and Dobson for example) talk about is something dealing with sex whether abortion or homosexuality. I'm Christian myself but the thing you have to remember is Christians are also citizen's of the United States and there is the first ammendment that you have to abide by. You don't have to like abortion or homosexuality but you can't deny them their rights either and blackmailing people is just wrong in itself. If Christians were really serious about stopping abortion they would vote democratic. Abortions started going up when Bush was President. Shouldn't that tell you something? I wouldn't be surprised with blackmail though from this administration. They seem to be at that level (at least Poppy and Rove).

4. Good theory - but has anyone considered the obvious?
A decoy, a bait. Too good to be true (for opponents). Something that will backfire on us. How did this thang fall out so badly right in the face of the White House Press Corps? How did it go on for so long?

As someone also said it has that Rovian aroma to it.

6. Demonizing gays works for the Gay Old Party.
Demonizing gays stems from religion, bad religion. It teaches judgmentalism, that is, I judge others, rather than myself. This is against Biblical teaching, but, it makes people feel powerful. Donations increase. If the gays were not wrong, then the self would be the next suspect. (Can't have that.)

Gays and abortions are key.

Sxtortion is just a benefit. But, David Brock, Gannon, all felt comfortable with being gay and being Republican. I suggest Republicans have more to lose by extorting.

There is a gay omerta -- code of silence -- breeding trust, leading to bed talk. Great way to gather info and spread it knowing who can keep a secret.

People wonder how Drudge does it. They might wonder how Rush, aka Jeff Christie, did it. Here, Jeff Gannon. Well, they have lots of friends, and friends of friends all skilled in the art of secrectivity and bed-partner believability.

Payola keeps it running. Raiding US credit keeps the payola profitable.

Republicans divulge ALL their secrets to the party in order to run. Their worst secrets. Plus the party finds lackluster minds with egos to run. They think they can do some good. They are in over their heads. They vote as a block.

Extortion comes from pedofilia. There exist strange news reports surrounding high-level officials. And, now, all investigations go through Bush appointed feds.

This scares me. Peds make for strong extortion.

7. Yes, pedophilia would make great blackmail material and I bet it's used
I think you're onto something here. Pillow talk can bring in information that just isn't passed by any other routes, another reason why sexual activity -- both gay and straight -- is important in espionage. And pedophilia would surely fit well with the amoral, greedy, powergame mentality that surrounds this administration like a stench that can't be hidden by fine clothes.

By the way, at least one of the gay prostitutes in that 1989 Reagan/Bush Whitehouse scandal was only 15 years old. If I remember correctly -- it's in that photoscanned article at the site I linked to in the OP -- this boy was one of the two "escorts" in the middle-of-the-night White House tour.

For REAL pedophiles, though, 15 is OLD. Oh yeah, I bet they got the goods on LOTS of pedophiles, and by definition, ALL of them are closeted and desperate to keep their filthy secret. I'm betting that a real, unfettered investigation of the 1989 prostitution ring would have given leads to pedophiles as well. But the administration prevented those leads from being followed.

8. I have a video about this...
Ill have to post it on my site...(will have to encode first)...anyways, it was a PBS documentary exposing a sex ring involving homosexuality and pedophilia and all sorts of stuff...it was supposed to be aired one day, but the show was pulled at the last minute or something...was never seen by the public till it surfaced on the net...definately gives creedence to your theory. Sure as hell wouldn't suprise me.

10. That video could be important - I'd love to see it
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 03:12 PM by Nothing Without Hope
It seems so natural to me that these creeps would not only try to coerce people by blackmail but would also insist on dirty secrets so they could "trust" one another. They're all such accomplished back-stabbers, how else could they establish some mutual safety from treachery?

And by the way, I can sure see Karl Rove as a pedophile. He apparently has no history at all with women, but I never have felt he is human enough to be gay. He's a monster, and I can't see him as capable of or aroused by normal sex, be it gay, bi, hetero or trans.

edited to add: If you find that video and make it avaiilable, would you please post about it at DU and PM me so I won't miss it? I'd really appreciate that.

13. yeah, there's something to this idea

I dunno how deliberate it was at the start, but homosexual blackmail/conspiracy is one of the few hidden very strong leverages left on a substantial group of elderly or middle aged white male power holding officials.

Heterosexual affairs and financial payoffs aren't strong enough levers these days. The way homosexual blackmail/conspiracy is relied upon and increasingly important has to do with the decay of the 'alternatives' among the immoralist set.

One way of looking at the anti-gay 'agenda' is as a way of distracting from the semi-covert gay presence and workings within the Republican Party- it victimizes those Out and struggling for social recognition/dignity openly in order to preserve power and safety of a Closeted subset. Hardly moral, that....

Now to throw in some speculation...I'm not sure this can be proven at this point, but after a long look at the biological corellates and suspected causes of homosexuality I think it's plausible that non-aboriginal peoples- immigrant peoples- moved to substantially hotter and wetter climates tend to have a substantial increase in rate of male homosexuality in its various degrees. People of heavily or entirely European ancestry in the Deep South would be such a group....

14. This isn't really about sex, it's about fear, hatred and manipulation
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 11:19 PM by Nothing Without Hope
The climate of shame, fear, repression, powertripping and manipulation that surrounds this administration and its fundie supporters is not only sick, it has led to horrors that we are all dealing with. If gay prostitution is a deliberate part of their schemes, it's another example of how the touch of these monsters can corrupt even normal, healthy things like homosexual love. How they can maintain that they stand for the will of a benevolent God is utterly beyond me. The god they worship must be a deity that values hate, fear and greed. Any kind of real love, gay, straight or bi, seems to be past their comprehension.

What they are saying is that someone in the White House has divulged classified information to Gannon, who is not cleared for the information.
The four hours lead time on the "Shock and Awe" was reported by the producer at his radio station. If you remember, Bush came on TV in a special report and said the attack started because they had information on where Saddam was.
Think about that. For both statements to be true one of the following conditions had to also be a fact:

1. They knew where Saddam was, told Gannon, Gannon blabbed it to his producer and maybe to others? Is that why Saddam left? Why didn't they strike sooner? Did they want Saddam to get away?

2. They knew where Saddam was going to be. Someone told Gannon, Gannon blabbed it to his producer and maybe to others? Is that why Saddam changed his plans and did not go to the location attacked?

The motto in WWII was "Loose Lips Sink Ships." Who is talking to Gannon? WHO IS THE TRAITOR? If we find out who he "knows" -- who his "Man Date" is, I think we can find out where to find the leak in the White House.

Yes, this does need to be investigated. It may make Patrick Fitzgerald's job easier if he looks into this for the Valerie Plame outing as well.

Edited to change literal to euphemism.

26. I believe that they literally worship satan, reviling God's Name...
...on purpose. That is what they are said to do at Bohemian Grove anyway, dress up in robes and bow and scrape before the giant wooden statue of Mammon, worshipping money and power, rowing a "human sacrifice" across the "River Styx," chilling even if it isn't real, which nobody is sure it isn't.

All of the so-called "secret government" groups seem to have as their central aim to destroy Christendom. And by lifting up this heresy across the land in addition to all their play acting, they are doing a good job.

The more we are finding out about now proven government programs like MK-ULTRA etc, the more believable all this craziness seems.

19. help, our marriage and photo was used without our permission in an anti-AA
We need your help, our marriage and photo was used without our permission in an anti-AARP ad being produced by the same people who made the Swiftboat Vet ads against John Kerry.

The Great People over in the DailyKOS broke this story and emailed me to let me know about this injustice; thanks guys.

This is the ad targeting the AARP because of their opposition to the President's social security plan. How this relates to the images of our nuptials and an American soldier is beyond me. But the ad ran Monday February 21, 2005 on the conservative magsite http://www.spectator.org Paid for by www.USAnext.org

It's being used on right wing websites to somehow use anti-gay bigotry and blind patriotism to rally people against the AARP and, by extension, against preserving Social Security.

We were unaware of this action and these sites until someone in the DailyKOS broke this story and wrote to tell us about it Monday. We are at a loss as to what to do about this matter; we do not want our image used in this way.
We’ve I found out from The Portland Tribune that the image was stolen from their website and they do not have a model release from us; they broke the law didn’t they?
Now that we have been defamed, demoralized, humiliated and belittled around the world on every major news show as just "those gays" in that ad is a personal attack on our marriage, love and commitment to each other.
We are human people and this hurts!

28. You know, peace, love, beauty and joy are what the monsters are fighting
not to mention TRUTH.

People are going to figure that out. We need to make that happen faster. We need to REFRAME THE LANGUAGE and bring the fight into the strong light of honesty.

They want to cherry-pick isolated biblical verses to "prove" their claims? Then point out other biblical verses as has been done in the wonderful "Open Letter To Dr. Laura," my favorite being this one:
(d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

Here's my favorite link for this classic; it includes information on the originator of the "Open Letter" as well as the texts of the actual biblical verses quoted, from two different translations:
http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/~susan/joke/laura.htm

And we need to write letters to the editors of newspapers about the reality of homosexuality and the monstrous cruelty of the RW fundies. I'm going to close this post with my very favorite LTTE of all time, written by the loving mother of a young gay son. I don't have the link, but I don't believe copyright is an issue and I'm sure the the author would wish for it to be spread as far as possible, so I'm just going to paste the whole thing. It needs to be passed to the ignorant people who just haven't thought enough about it. Let's make them THINK. (This will make the 4th time I've posted it at DU.)
------------------
Letter to the Editor

by Sharon Underwood, Sunday, April 30, 2000

from the Valley News (White River Junction, VT/Hanover, NH)

As the mother of a gay son, I've seen firsthand how cruel and misguided people can be.

Many letters have been sent to the Valley News concerning the homosexual menace in Vermont. I am the mother of a gay son and I've taken enough from you good people.

I'm tired of your foolish rhetoric about the "homosexual agenda" and your allegations that accepting homosexuality is the same thing as advocating sex with children. You are cruel and ignorant. You have been robbing me of the joys of motherhood ever since my children were tiny.

My firstborn son started suffering at the hands of the moral little thugs from your moral, upright families from the time he was in the first grade. He was physically and verbally abused from first grade straight through high school because he was perceived to be gay.

He never professed to be gay or had any association with anything gay, but he had the misfortune not to walk or have gestures like the other boys. He was called "fag" incessantly, starting when he was 6.

In high school, while your children were doing what kids that age should be doing, mine labored over a suicide note, drafting and redrafting it to be sure his family knew how much he loved them. My sobbing 17-year-old tore the heart out of me as he choked out that he just couldn't bear to continue living any longer, that he didn't want to be gay and that he couldn't face a life without dignity.

You have the audacity to talk about protecting families and children from the homosexual menace, while you yourselves tear apart families and drive children to despair. I don't know why my son is gay, but I do know that God didn't put him, and millions like him, on this Earth to give you someone to abuse. God gave you brains so that you could think, and it's about time you started doing that.

At the core of all your misguided beliefs is the belief that this could never happen to you, that there is some kind of subculture out there that people have chosen to join. The fact is that if it can happen to my family, it can happen to yours, and you won't get to choose. Whether it is genetic or whether something occurs during a critical time of fetal development, I don't know. I can only tell you with an absolute certainty that it is inborn.

If you want to tout your own morality, you'd best come up with something more substantive than your heterosexuality. You did nothing to earn it; it was given to you. If you disagree, I would be interested in hearing your story, because my own heterosexuality was a blessing I received with no effort whatsoever on my part. It is so woven into the very soul of me that nothing could ever change it. For those of you who reduce sexual orientation to a simple choice, a character issue, a bad habit or something that can be changed by a 10-step program, I'm puzzled. Are you saying that your own sexual orientation is nothing more than something you have chosen, that you could change it at will? If that's not the case, then why would you suggest that someone else can?

A popular theme in your letters is that Vermont has been infiltrated by outsiders. Both sides of my family have lived in Vermont for generations. I am heart and soul a Vermonter, so I'll thank you to stop saying that you are speaking for "true Vermonters."

You invoke the memory of the brave people who have fought on the battlefield for this great country, saying that they didn't give their lives so that the "homosexual agenda "could tear down the principles they died defending. My 83-year-old father fought in some of the most horrific battles of World War II, was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.

He shakes his head in sadness at the life his grandson has had to live. He says he fought alongside homosexuals in those battles, that they did their part and bothered no one. One of his best friends in the service was gay, and he never knew it until the end, and when he did find out, it mattered not at all. That wasn't the measure of the man.

You religious folk just can't bear the thought that as my son emerges from the hell that was his childhood he might like to find a lifelong companion and have a measure of happiness. It offends your sensibilities that he should request the right to visit that companion in the hospital, to make medical decisions for him or to benefit from tax laws governing inheritance.
How dare he? you say. These outrageous requests would threaten the very existence of your family, would undermine the sanctity of marriage.

You use religion to abdicate your responsibility to be thinking human beings. There are vast numbers of religious people who find your attitudes repugnant. God is not for the privileged majority, and God knows my son has committed no sin.
The deep-thinking author of a letter to the April 12 Valley News who lectures about homosexual sin and tells us about "those of us who have been blessed with the benefits of a religious upbringing" asks: "What ever happened to the idea of striving...to be better human beings than we are?"

Indeed, sir, what ever happened to that?

29. Would you please relieve me of some of my ignorance on this?
I have watched virtually no TV in years and have missed the reference you are making here. I'd be grateful if you could expand on this a bit. How does this TV show on "angels" (I can only imagine how sickeningly smug and self-righteous that must be to carried on the corporate media) relate to the Reagan admin issues?
