About damn time.

Mainstream press picks up pace on Gannon; New Yorker gets into the game

Heat from press rises on White House over Gannon

By John Byrne | RAW STORY Editor

A broad array of mainstream publications and television networks are aggressively pursuing various angles of the burgeoning scandal surrounding discredited White House reporter Jeff Gannon, RAW STORY has learned.

Washington sources tell RAW STORY that calls are flying around the District as much of the mainstream press seeks to catch up with online reporting–including some from such prestigious magazines as The New Yorker.

The wire services have also begun digging, sources say, which could place the Gannon scandal in hundreds of smaller newspapers across America.

Some suggest that the mainstream media–which initially left blogs and online outlets like this site to flesh out the story–are now seeking to reestablish their grasp and perhaps break new elements of it themselves.

1. Sex sells.
Forget all that WMD stuff. Who cares? We don't have a MSM media or a corporate media--we have a plain old tabloid media. An equal blend of right-wing patriotism and drooling voyeurism.

these fuckers have gotten a pass from the media for so long, it's about time. If the wire services pick it up, it'll even be in the Watertown Daily Times!

we know why he got in, i love hearing the media peopel saying..."How did he pass the background checks>" I don't know if they're being cheeky or serious. We know why he passed the beckground check....there wasn't one.

9. I'm afraid if the MSM doesn't start asking some hard questions
we may never know how or why he got access.

12. Even without the sex angle this story goes to prove how sleazy
this administration is, the sex angle isn't the crux of the story.

And by Tuesday morning, they'll make sure it's never aired on TV again

14. Leslie Stahl was on Bill Maher last night
While Bill was saying that Jimmy-Jeff had a boyfriend in the WH, Leslie was pointing out the security part. How DID he get a press pass under a phony name? HELLO! Biden said, in response to a question from Maher, that only the chair of a certain committee can call an investigation, and the chair is, of course, a repub, so the odds are that it won't happen.

If MSM does pick this up (even if it's only for the sex angle initially), maybe an investigation will happen.

15. I will be totally flummoxed if anything comes of this
Name ONE thing in the last six years, including the campaign, that the media has covered to its conclusion, WRT the chimp or the 43d Reich

they NEVER EVER cover anything in depth....they run something for a day or two, then drop it, defending themselves later by saying, "what are you TALKing about?" we covered that like a blanket three years ago

I've had people like Jim Warren of the Chicago Trib tell me that on the radio, referring to the AWOL story, as if they covered it in detail during Election Theft 2000. they actually beLIEVE they've covered these stories; that no holds were barred.

they have to do this in order to overcome the massive cognitive dissonance formed by justifying the existence of that feeble minded twerp and his puppeteers, especially the second time around.

they'll do anything/say ANYthing to rationalize their total venality

16. MSM needs to investigate whether Gannon was created by the WHIG.
The White House Iraq Group, or WHIG, was formed by White House Chief of Staff Andy Card in August of 2002 to market and create support for the invasion of Iraq. It also was charged with framing the debate so that republicans would benefit politically from the invasion. WHIG's responsibilities included the creation and coordination of all of the lies to support the invasion, including the yellowcake and other nuclear weapons lies, and probably was involved in the Plame crimes.

From an excellent article describing the WHIG:
The group met weekly in the Situation Room. Among the regular participants were Karl Rove, the president's senior political adviser; communications strategists Karen Hughes, Mary Matalin and James R. Wilkinson; legislative liaison Nicholas E. Calio; and policy advisers led by Rice and her deputy, Stephen J. Hadley, along with I. Lewis Libby, Cheney's chief of staff.

The first days of September would bring some of the most important decisions of the prewar period: what to demand of the United Nations in the president's Sept. 12 address to the General Assembly, when to take the issue to Congress, and how to frame the conflict with Iraq in the midterm election campaign that began in earnest after Labor Day.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=artic...

The WHIG not only chose what lies to use, it also chose when, where, and how the lies would be disseminated. And by whom. Because of the comprehensive responsibilty the WHIG had for coordinating the lies of the administration concerning Iraq and Gannon's first appearance at the time of the Iraq invasion, I think it likely that the WHIG was involved in the creation of Gannon as a journalist.
