Somebody had to persuade them to waive the background check that would hae told them they had a real problem on their hands, and I don't think Dina Powell or Scott McClellan have the pull.

Either it was a mover and shaker outside the elected and appointed crew (like Norquist or LaHaye or any of the other in house ideology purity police), or it's one of the top creeps.

I've suspected Scooter Libby, since Guckert seems to have been privy to the whole Plame thing and may have been the patsy they used to shop the story around until some fool published it.
