Gannongate & prestitution versus Watergate: nearly the same?
Gannongate and paying the press to support administration policy is an example of an administration over-stepping its proper role in American society. The press should be free and independent.

2. God, I hope so...
I'd love to see the brazen propaganda campaign the Bush admin has engaged in blow up into a major scandal. I still think we've just seen the tip of the iceberg -- Frank Rich's NYT article points out that we still don't know where all the public relations money went.

Maybe, just maybe.........

3. Over-stepping?
That's putting it mildly, respectfully speaking.

4. Today's Woodwards and Bernsteins would be shut down
immediately by their corp-controlled editors if they even try to investigate this. Find the back doors & a deep throat people. C'mon Helen, it's time for you to get your revenge!
The whole thing is beginning to look eerily like Watergate: Rove in charge of "the plumbers' - fixing "leaks" with either fake news outlets and by gestapo-control of the media.
The Gannon affair may indeed be this scandal's "watergate burglary." There will have to be a grand jury investigation; then of course many leakers and backstabbers to get more of the story out. If all goes well, it should finally be revealed that Dubya ordered it all. The catylst will unfortunately be the sex thing, but hey, whatever it takes!

5. you can't be serious
of all the problems in the Bush administration, you think this is the worst? Or that it approaches Watergate?
How about the war or Abu Ghraib? People need to get a grip here. This is nuts.

6. It wasn't Cambodia that took Nixon down
It was a piece of scotch tape tampered with on the door of an office suite at the Watergate complex! Which, in turn, after a lengthy, seemingly quixotic investigation, exposed a conspiracy to undermine the political process, one that reached way up into the White House.

The Iraq War was authorized by Congress and the absence of WMD's has been explained away.

No direct connection can be made between Bush and what happened at Abu Ghraib.

Okay, maybe we can't "get" Bush with this propaganda story, but maybe we can implicate Rove. Gannon is just one part of a organized propaganda campaign -- in my mind, paying off the "opinion journalists" with government money is far more serious. I'm glad we've got the sex angle because it's focusing more attention on the overall story.

7. pay attention to this---Our govt is kidnapping and torturing people
This is something to be seriously outraged about. And if anything warrants impeachment, it's this sort of thing.

The new disappeared.

No direct connection can be made between Bush and Gannon either, other than W asked him a couple of questions.

8. In a way it is.
The war and everything else that has followed would not have gone forward if the press were truly free and unafraid of this administration. It's the root of the problem. Really to think of it * never would have had a chance of getting elected if the press were free.

9. true, but I blame the press for that
Bushco have planted a few (we don't know how many) reporters. But how do we explain the NYT and Washington Post being complicit in the war? That is their own fault. Unfortunately, our society's problems go far beyond the government. In fact, the Bush administration is a symptom of the corporate take over of America, and our media reflects the kind of subservience that comes from being owned by huge corporations.

12. More than the planting
This administration and the media are all part of the same web. They feed off each other either with that knowledge or simply because of the corporate mindset. Editors and publishers feel that they can't cross the ones that are in control and the administration uses that. The takeover is a part of every area of our democracy starting with the machines we vote on right down to what we read. It's everywhere and most people just go along with their lives and don't realize a thing that is happening. A story like this has the possibility to expose this. The least it will do is chip away at the facade.

10. To get rid of Bush, his supporters must turn on him.
What better way to unleash the outrage of the "moral majority" voters than to expose a gay prostitution ring operating in the White House? If it's done with the knowledge of Rove, Bush or Cheney, it casts serious doubts among supporters of Bush's credibility and morality.

These people don't care about torturing prisoners, apparently. This is just like the Clinton Days--no one cared much about Whitewater financial dealings, but when a sex scandal arose, the press and the Reps went wild.

11. if you catch Bush at one of those gay bars, then you've got something
he's done for. I seriously doubt this Gannon character or McClellan is enough to change the minds of the Wahhabi Christian zealots.

13. It is part of the manipulation of news of the Bush administration
Without manipulation of news the Bush-Nazi regime could never have gotten so much of its agenda accomplished.

No this is not a little thing.

Also, it is uncovering the fact that some in the top echelons of the ultra moral anti-gay Bush White House may in fact be gay and promiscuous (Hey no wonder they're against gay 'marriage'. Can't stand to have that dating pool reduced, eh? Just kidding--Just like with hetero couples committed people will stay together if at all possible. Gay marriage is more about giving them their rights).

But thanks for... er...posting.
