Newsweek - Gannon's Enemies List
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6999385/site/newsweek/

Feb. 28 issue - Jeff Gannon is considering suing liberal interest groups, bloggers and others for a "political assassination" that drove him from his job as a reporter for a conservative news outfit called Talon News, he told NEWSWEEK. Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, singled out Media Matters—a "well-funded" liberal group headed by longtime "attack dog" David Brock. ("Everything we wrote about him came from the public record," Brock replied.)

I seem to recall that truth is a defense in libel cases. I don't think Gannon needs to go there.

and if mr. gannon is being this big of a cry-baby over those "evil" liberal bloggers, he's going to have a complete mental breakdown when faced with defense attorneys serving him with discovery & deposition requests.....karma's a bitch, jeff.

What a disaster that would be.

98. I betcha jj has gotten a pychiatrist to evaluate his mental state,
he has had a doctor take his blood to determine that he doesn't use drugs, he refuses to fly in small planes or travel in any obsure area. I would surmise he is never alone, sleeps with smith & wesson in a safe room, has left video, audio and documented evidence of his "existence" and the extent of his involvement with his attorney and locked in a safety deposit box. He probably travels in an armored humvee (they make those in the states by special order).

32. I believe that was James Hatfield - the guy who wrote "Fortunate Son"
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 10:46 AM by calimary
who had - well, some complications in his past (I believe it was drug-related) but certainly NOTHING like the weenie-on-the-web business that our dear friend "Gannon" had going on. Hatfield's book got into many areas of little bushie's life that little bushie and famiily and friends would NOT like you to know about. Eventually, Hatfield was found dead in his apartment - no, hotel room as the poster above, chelaque liberal, has it. "Suicided," apparently.

But in the case of our boy "Gannon" - I mean, you have your naked photos plastered on the internet, showing yourself not ONLY naked, but hard, and (I understand although I have not seen it myself) urinating, and - again, you have those photos posted ON THE INTERNET on at least one site where you are ADVERTISING YOUR SERVICES AS AN "ESCORT" FOR 200 DOLLARS A NIGHT OR 1200 DOLLARS A WEEKEND - and you claim your privacy is being invaded?!?!?!?!?!?!??

Like former Senator Gary Hart, who was fooling around on his wife while launching a presidential campaign, dared reporters to follow him around and dig up dirt on that, and they did, and they found MORE than enough to up-end his campaign. STOOOOOOOOOPID. If you're gonna say "bring 'em on," you better have your ass nice and clean. Or at least covered - and NOT in color photos on the web, and not erect, and certainly not urinating.

Typical bloviating in-yer-face wrong-winger - trying to go on preemptive attack to throw the bloodhounds off his trail. Trying to turn it around so the OTHER guy looks bad. Next he'll be saying the system is rigged and the evidence was planted.

14. Lawsuits are too risky for Gannon. He will be the first to give
a deposition. And if he thinks that Anderson Cooper was harsh, just wait until a team of lawyers start asking questions. And you have to answer all of the questions, even the ones objected to (at least in FL.)

Personally, I'll donate to David Brock's defense fund if Guckert does sue. And I'll include a bunch of questions that I'd like to see answered.

Also, GOPUSA persons could be deposed. Whoaaaa.

It's empty threat time. I'm :scared:

with this. We should keep pounding at this subject until all truth is revealed - until "Faux News" finally covers the subject. Until ALL the crooks are jailed. My counterpart at work is a rePuke and watches only Faux news. I asked her this past Friday if she has ever heard of "Gannon/Fuc*ert", and you guessed it - her answer was "who's Gannon/Fuc*kert?". Most friggin rePukes know nothing about this story because of the Faux News and MSM non-coverage of the subject.

We can't let this die. We can't move on. The truth and dishonesty of this administration must be revealed until the living-in-their-own-little-world rePukes finally see who they voted into our WH!!!

19. More-
It remains unclear how Gannon got routine White House press access for nearly two years; he acknowledged he first began getting clearance to White House press briefings in early 2003 as a representative of GOPUSA, a group headed by Texas GOP activist Bobby Eberle—months before Eberle even created Talon News. Gannon said he had no access to White House aides outside the press room, nor did he try to interview any. When President Bush called on him at a press conference last month—during which he asked a question with false info about Sen. Harry Reid—"nobody was more surprised than myself," said Gannon.

22. ROFLMAO - This fiasco just keeps getting better
Odd that Gannon would claim that he had no access to the WH outside of the press room?

he acknowledged he first began getting clearance to White House press briefings in early 2003 as a representative of GOPUSA, a group headed by Texas GOP activist Bobby Eberle—months before Eberle even created Talon News. Gannon said he had no access to White House aides outside the press room, nor did he try to interview any.

Well then who was it then that went to at least two WH Christmas parties, the WH Corespondents Dinner and Ari's Going Away Party? I know Gannon's got some personal identity issues, but now he trying to pretend he wasn't connected? Especially after bragging about it on Free Republic for the last year?

Besides Gannon didn't have to worry about doing interviews with WH officials, that was Bobby Eberle's domain. Bobby was the one who got a rare interview with Karl Rove a while back. Too bad they've scrubbed most of the copies of it.

37. Maybe, but it also means he knows how the bad guys operate,
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 11:03 AM by calimary
since he used to be one of 'em. He knows what they're likely to try to do. He knows what to look for, and what to be prepared for. He knows their mind because he used to be inside it. He knows all their tricks. He used to DO some of them. Only now, he's on OUR side, with THEIR playbook. Reminds me of Seven-of-Nine in "Star Trek Voyager." She used to be a Borg drone. But they rescued her. She wasn't a drone anymore, but she remembered EVERYTHING, and it made for LOTS of advantages when the Voyager crew came up against the Borg from time to time.

He who lives by the sword shall die by it.

And BTW - no, it's NOT a smear. He had all that gnarly stuff PUT ON THE INTERNET, in living color. NOBODY held a gun to his head and forced him to pose like that and advertise himself like that. Let him try and make himself out to be some choirboy. And YES he was bragging about it - also on the internet. Nobody's saying anything about him that HE DIDN'T HAVE POSTED, HIMSELF, OR ON HIS BEHALF by some website designer, FOR HIS OWN BENEFIT.

Not only that but he'd also have to sue Maureen Dowd of the New York Times and any number of other people in the "mainstream" G-rated press who've mentioned his websites by name. Five of them by my count. I mean, "Jeffie," dear boy, don't scream at people for squirting water on you when you insist on running around in public in flaming underwear.

anyone who has really followed Brock's history would know that really couldn't be used against him, since it is really relevant to this at all.

I mean, you could try to stretch things to say so, but it's just not very solid at all.

Besides, there'd be so much light and heat generated by Gannon's life and his "career" and all those who aided and abetted him, they'd never have a CHANCE to get to Brock! LOL!

Not that I expect a con to understand the principals behind our Country and Government.

especially one taught in every public school in america.

BUT PLEASE, let him do this! Becuase so much can come out during a trial.

Trust me, he's as likely to sue as he is to go straight. Not gonna happen. More bullying tactics - he's trying to shut everyone up before they really do get to the bottom of this.

29. If I were Gannon/Guckert I think I'd be hiding about now.
Chimpy and the administration isn't going to take kindly to all the investigations that would arise from a lawsuit. This guy is going to take a fall for this administration. I would bet money on it.

The only way they can keep this story under wraps at this point is to make Guckert disappear.

71. My thought exactly
It will be just like the FOX suit against Al Franken for his use of the phrase "fair and balanced". That suit (or the threat of the suit--can't remember if FOX actually filed it) turned the "Lying Liars..." book into a best-seller and it highlighted- for the reddest parts of the red states-- the extreme UNfairness and UNbalanced nature of FOX's reporting.

Bring it on!

None other than Michael Isikoff had a hand in this article. While it's short and sweet for the moment, I think the fact that Isikoff put his name on it means that the MSM is going to be digging deeper. He wouldn't want his name on that if he didn't think it was going somewhere. Too much ego for that.

we're going to see a lot of this. Distract and defuse. Lots of little "non-stories" out there that are keeping the general public from seeing what is going on.

Along those same lines, I think Clinton was asked to do this tsunami thing with Poppy as a way to keep him quiet during the social security debate. They keep misrepresenting what Clinton called for while in office, and Clinton can't very well come out and call them liars and manipulators while he's doing good will work with Poppy.

53. "Political assassination"?
What's his claim? What would he sue for? What was the wrong? Making a big bad marine cry? Who would have any sympathy for him? A lawsuit is just a ticket to nowhere for Gannon/Guckert because it would just put a big spotlight on the dirt about his life.

The interesting thing is that Gannon/Guckert does not appear to be getting any guidance from anywhere on how to handle himself. Doesn't he have any friends?

Surely he isn't so naive as to think that the right wing is going to support him. They don't like his "kind," period. And no politician who caters to the right wing is going to want to be seen supporting what he stands for. He's been betrayed -- not by bloggers of the left, but by the phonies on the right.

David Brock is probably the first to understand how Gannon/Guckert feels. After all, David Brock has done that and been there. If Gannon/Guckert is smart, he'll take a page from Brock, turn on the right wingers who have used him and abandoned him and tell all. He could probably make more money by writing an expose on his experiences with the Republican propaganda machine than by suing someone.

Truth is always a defense...and even if something weren't 100% correct, the minute Jimmy put himself on the public stage, he limited his defense in any libel/defamation action. 130. I want Dan Rather and CBS to sue the Free Republic
Take the fuckers to court for all its worth.

If this case gets allowed in court, then I want Rather to sue the Free Republic and GOPUSA, Talon News, and all of these other two-faced prostitutes for the memo incident.

I didn't even make a charged remark about the gay prostitution in that last sentence. Although well within the realm of factual reality, any statement which would express my opinion in an unrestrictive way would be in violation of Democratic Underground posting rules.
