Actually, I don't think that is the word I would use to describe Gannon, but according to Ron Hutcheson of Knight Ridder and the President of the WH Correspondents Assoc, Gannon was a irritant that they had to 'deal' with? He goes on to state that nobody can figure out how to deal with this irritating problem.
It's amazing how the once mighty WH Press Corps became a bunch of hen pecked wimps in four short years? This guy is the friggin' head of the WH Press Corps and he can't figure out what to do? May I make a few suggestions? For example, you could have gone to the WH Press Office and complained. Then if they didn't remove the 'irritants' you could have investigated further and then written about it your newspapers. You could have exposed this story, but no, you just let it go on. There wasn't anything you could do about it anyway, especially if you're a spineless wimp that is more concerned about keeping his cushy job than reporting the truth to the American people.

Partisan ‘reporter' raised suspicions

“This is an irritant that we deal with — people who try to hijack the briefing for ideological reasons,” said Ron Hutcheson of Knight Ridder Newspapers, president of the White House Correspondents Association. “A few people are in there just to get across their points of view. But it's the kind of thing we put up with, because nobody can quite figure out how to deal with it.”
