Poll question: Secret Bush tapes - legitimate news or smokescreen
I've seen much discussion on the tapes written about in the NYTimes. I find the release, and the statements regarding gays, particularly coincidental given MandateGate.

1. Someone on DU said...
that the repugs would release some more TANG records to deflect attention from Guckert. I guess these tapes are just a new twist on a old Karl Rove favorite.

2. Hrm...

How about a "Real, but we aren't going to get to hear the really good ones, and they are just being put there to distract us."

3. Nothing but a shiny bauble for the media to play with.
It doesn't really say anything negative, doesn't state anything we didn't already know. Its fake.

5. No question about it!
It is, as another poster put it, a shiny bauble for the media to play with. The tapes story is controllable because this Wead guy is a friend of ShrubCo. The Guckertgate story is not controllable.

6. We were all wondering what distractions Rove would put up
following the Gannon/Guckert debacle. Some said another increasd terror alert, but Rove knows that is now too predictable. Let's introduce an old pal with a hidden microphone fetish. Could be tintillating enough to steer the lemmings off in another direction, especially if it is sprinkled with dashes of "naughty"...smoking pot and some such other nonsense. My opinion? B is for BULLSHIT.

7. My first thought was...
..."This is a Rove-ian maneuver." The tapes seem like propoganda to me.

11. That was my first take on it
even before I heard the released contents of the tapes.

More KKKarl propaganda.

9. This isnt even that big of a story
The MSM isn't covering it that much. So, I doubt that Rove would waste his energy making something fake that wouldn't even be a huge story.

And plus, on the tapes, Bush implies that he used pot. This isn't much of a revelation, but still.

10. Of course it's the top story on the MSNBC webpage,
That's enough of a reason to call it what it is, diversion.

Oh yeah, it's on fox too. Nuff said.
