Help me!--need advice on being a Vice Chairman of local party...
Help! I've been asked to be Vice Chairman for my county's Democratic party! Obviously, there isn't much to pick from so they cornered me at an informal meeting at a local restaurant. I don't think I really want to do it. All I wanted to do was be my own precinct chairman. All of the older Dems are too old to be as active as the positions demand these days, and there are but a handful of us actively involved younger people--probably about 3 of us, to give you a better picture, and we are all over 35.

I suggested a local Democratic party website that would include links to pertinent info, meetings, and donations. I suggested that we find someone to help organize a local young Democrats club at our 3-4 local high schools and then those young internet savvy members could help operate/maintain the website as part of their involvement. My daughter also has a boyfriend who is in an alternative rock band where we could have a fundraiser.

Does anybody know what is involved in being a Vice Chairman?? I need experienced people to relate what they've done. This really scares me. I may chicken out.

1. don't chicken out, your ideas are great!
but make a decision how much time a week or month you can give and then stick with it :)

since it's not an election year, things will be pretty quiet

you may want to Post this in the AZ forum too, i know a couple party folks from our state hang out there and can help

:yourock:

2. I agree with AZDemDist6. You have great ideas --
-- and you should give it a try.

And god knows Indiana needs all the Democratic organizational help it can get.

3. Please do it
Our local vice chair is the "go to" gal for the county. She has the phone calls forwarded to her, then sends them on to the right person. I'm not sure what your duties will be, but you are on the right track with developing a website. It is so much cheaper to communicate with party members by e-mail than by smail mail. Our young dems designed and keep ours updated. Congratulations, you will do us proud.
