3. You're absolutely right about that

the racist right won't be able to overcome their bigotry, and lost in conflict with themselves, they won't vote.

I hope they do run condi.

32. Nah. The MSM will begin a propaganda campaign to convince us she's white
And all the polls will show her "white" numbers going up regularly.

17. remember Colin Powell's "will he, won't he?" tour in 95?
that ended with 12 Republicans lining up at a press conference saying they wouldnt wouldnt support him. Next day he broke the sad news he wouldnt run. Window dressing.

25. Exactly
I remember that group. I believe Gary Bauer was one of its members. They said that if Powell did run his record would be carefully examined. Condi Rice will never be part of the Republican presidential ticket. Race still matters in this country.

7. Bush is a lame duck.
He's not concerned with re-election. And Condi has demonstrated an ability to stick to the administration line no matter how degrading to her reputation it might be. A female Colin Powell, as it were.

By making her VP the GOP can get kudos for both the first woman and first black VP, without any risk that she might interfere with policy.

It's a shame. There was a time I would have been psyched to see this as a possibility. But I've just seen her blatantly lie and skirm to avoid telling the truth that I can no longer trust a thing she has to say.

And there in lies the problem.

Something like there'll never be a black VP, because then some brother would off the Prez so he could "elect" the first black president?

I have seen it before, with that weird creature (not Bush, the OTHER weird creature!) it looks familiar - but I cannot place it.

5. If the first black person to be prez or VP was also the first
woman, *and* she was a conservative ...

I think my wife just might have to call an ambulance after I passed out from laughing. I don't think I could stand the irony. Or the posturing. Or the responses.

10. If Rice runs as a VP candidate
in 2008, what percentage of black vote do you think Republicans will get?

I would expect at least 30% or so, if not 50%. That would beat the miniscule "white supremacist" non-voting hands down.

11. You got that right, brother....CONdi could draw as high as 35% of
black votes, and that would be fatal to the democrat nominee.
And there certainly will be a loss of the redneck vote, my guess
is aprox half the number of additional black votes she gets.
So you do the arithmetic.

13. I doubt she would get a boost from black voters
She's been in W's hip pocket since he started, yet black voters still voted for Kerry 9-1. Elevating her to VP wouldn't help.

16. Having an elected black VP would be historic -
that's a lot different from having a black SOS or a black NSA. When you vote, you don't vote for an SOS. But faced with a vote for a black VP, I can guarantee much much higher black vote for Republicans than 10%.

27. I don't think so.
A lot of black people do not care for Ms. Rice. Clarence Thomas has shown the folly of supporting someone simply because he is of the same race. To paraphrase Al Sharpton, just because someone is your skin folk doesn't mean he's your kin folk......(or something like that).

37. Who says we are not going to run a black man or woman in 08?
Obama as VP?

The real question is if Bush appoints her VP after a Cheney step down and they run her for Pres. Then what will we do?

14. You would do well not to underestimate
Rice. She got her bachelor's degree at 19 cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, her master's at 20, then went on to a doctorate. She was a professor of political science at Stanford. She is no dummy.

31. As a VP candidate, she would not
really have to debate much, if at all.

People who responded here who think that having a black VP (and a woman to boot) on the ticket will not give Republicans at least 30%, and probably a lot more, of the black vote, don't really know what they're talking about. Yes, black leaders will be against Rice, but probably a lot less vehemently than they would have been against any other Republican, and the black voting "street" (or at least a very significant portion of it) will see the color of her skin first.

21. What a lame thought process.
This isn't the WWE or Trans-fricking-formers. Catfight for president!

I hate to say it, but the Republican Party will consume itself if they attempt to nominate a black woman.

Their base will eat itself alive.
