Did Hunter S Thompson witness Bush selling cocaine?
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 12:11 AM by NVMojo
Excerpt:
The first time I noticed George W Bush," Hunter Thompson tells me, "was when he passed out in my bathtub at the Hyatt Regency in Houston. He was with a guy who had come to sell...

Look, I'm not going to put this next sentence on the record. Let's just say that 'a friend of mine' was buying cocaine. I have friends in Houston from all walks of life. Lawyers. Professional men.

Bush was hanging around with this crowd of what you might call gilded coke dilettantes."

17. Rove told Hatfield about Bush's cocaine arrest.
He named Rove as the source shortly before his supposed suicide. I didn't buy it. Margie Shoedinger supposedly committed suicide too - with a gun to the head yet those who knew her said no way. Baxter also shot himself with a shotgun from 50 feet away.

On October 2, 1992 Thompson faxed Carville with this advice, "James Carville; Was George Bush a member of the horrible Tail-Hook association? I heard he was, James – until last year when the orgies finally got out of hand. `Lets make the Bastard Deny it -

5. It would have been intresting
if Bush was in the tailhook Society because Bush "claims" to have done his time in the Air National Guard. The Tailhook Societys membership are naval aviators that have seen carrier service, hence the name Tailhook.

7. your comment got me started ...BrklynLiberal ...too weird, eh?
snip...

In 1974, George spent Superbowl Sunday at a party hosted by Hunter S. Thompson. When asked decades later if he remembered whether Bush had used any drugs at his party, Thompson replied:

"I can't be expected to remember what every drug-addled yuppie hanger-oner who wanted to get close to me during a football game twenty-five years ago digested. There were so many dope fiends milling about, I don't remember what some Yalie named Bush, whose father was a factotum in the Nixon Administration, was doing. But he strikes me as the sort of person I would have thrown out of the room. A rich, beer-drunk yahoo with a big allowance who passes out in your bathtub. ... I don't want to become the Deep Drug Throat. ... I won't do it."

6. Great...
...our f-ing president pickled his brain in alcohol for 2 decades, snorted cocaine for years and now we can add pot to his repertoire'.

And we all wonder why this many was almost brought down by a pretzel?

He's brain damaged. His neurons have melted together, and now resemble a plate of overcooked spaghetti.

No wonder he has a shark eye. The man is f***ed up beyond repair.

It used to be comical. Now, he's over in Europe, spreading his brain-damaged swaggering froth and doing his constipated John Wayne imitation.

For the love of Pete--someone stop this crazy train.

13. Compared to the other things Bush did
Pot is a complete nothing as it has no long term side affects. Unlike Coke and heavy drinking.

8. Hunter S. Thompson Talks About Bush, Booze, and Drugs at His Super Bowl Pa
snip....

Hunter S. Thompson is the author of "Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas" (1968), which featured his literary alter ego, Raoul Duke, a man who knew his way around drugs and booze. Six years later in "Doonesbury," Garry Trudeau, once called a "character assassin" by Poppy Bush, introduced Uncle Duke, and Thompson thought about a libel suit against Trudeau, but decided against it. "I didn't want to grapple in the gutter with Trudeau," Thompson is quoted as saying in the "Talk of the Town" section of the May 15th "The New Yorker."

This March, Douglas Brinkley reports in "The New Yorker" story, the New York "Observer" (see below) noted that George W. Bush, then 28, attended Thompson's 1974 Super Bowl party in Houston, and, since then, folks have asked Thompson for details. Here's part of what he told Brinkley: "I can't be expected to remember what every drug-addled yuppie hanger-oner who wanted to get close to me during a football game twenty-five years ago digested. There were so many dope fiends milling about, I don't remember what some Yalie named Bush, whose father was a factotum in the Nixon Administration, was doing. But he strikes me as the sort of person I would have thrown out of the room. A rich, beer-drunk yahoo with a big allowance who passes out in your bathtup....I don't want to become the Deep Drug Throat....I won't do it." --Politex, 5/20/00

"W....was my college classmate, though barely known to me.... an irreverent spirit, something I thought I glimpsed in a chance encounter with him and Hunter Thompson a quarter-century ago at a Super Bowl in Houston. I can’t recall who was hanging out with whom, but it was January 1974, it was in the atrium of the Hyatt Regency, the Super Bowl headquarters hotel (I was there to write about the spectacle which featured Dolphins versus Vikes that year) and I think it was a mutual friend, a fun-loving preppy guy I knew from college who also somehow knew Hunter and W. who brought us all together in a room in the Hyatt. I don’t remember exactly what went on, but I do remember coming away with a favorable impression of W.

"I remember thinking he was one of the preppy types I’d always kind of liked, the hang-loose, good-ole-boy types, many of whom took the interregnum on careerism, which the war and the draft mandated as a cue to break out of the mold a bit, wander off the reservation, poke into the sides of life their trust funds otherwise might have sheltered them from. I sensed what W. liked about Hunter Thompson was that Hunter too was another button-down good old frat boy (once) who went weird but in a good-old-boy way." --Ron Rosenbaum, "The New York Observer," 3/27/00

9. this is prophetic, in a sense ...

Sometimes Winners Do Drugs
In honor of the Dubya-Coke Addict story -- which seems to finally be returning to Prime Time just five years after the hard-hitting press corps dropped it simply because they were told to do so -- here's a little column I wrote in 1999 for the Web magazine "Getting It." It's called "Sometimes Winners Do Drugs."

Sometimes I wonder what they've really got on Hunter S. Thompson. Otherwise, the truth would've come out years ago and be completely established today. It amazes me that a cokehead who couldn't even bother to show up for the National Guard service he was awarded (due to being George H. W. Bush's son) so he could puss out on Vietnam is actually running a campaign against the other guy's combat in Vietnam.. Well, maybe it doesn't amaze me. After all, regular drug addicts who went AWOL and were repeatedly arrested tend to wind up in prison, not the Oval Office.
