So I finally saw The Speech

I mean, I'd heard it, and yeah, Dean sounded pretty over the top.

But I finally SAW it, on the Daily Show (where else?)--the dinner-hour repeat.

And I suppose if I had any sense I wouldn't dredge this up again--maybe best if this thread just heads for the bottom like a Russian submarine.

But um, what's the big effing deal, anyway? When you SEE the thing, it seems, I dunno, quite good humored and fun. A little self-mocking, even. Certainly not some lunatic rant the way it's being played up.

I'm not a huge Dean supporter (2nd choice for me), but my god, if ever you wanted depressing evidence that we're in for the same propagandistic shitstorm we got in 2000....

If we heard as many repeats of "weapons of mass destruction-related program activities" as we're hearing of this, the Chimp wouldn't have a prayer in November.

Honestly people who look at that speech and go, what's wrong with it? My question is: what's RIGHT with it? He was trying to "be fun?" ouch.

You are right. As unfair as this attack is, it is indeed a test for Dean. We all knew shit like this would happen and we all contemplated who would be best able to handle it. Now it's time for Dean, Trippi and the Deaniacs to be tested. We'll see what happens. If Dean fails, somebody else will be next in line for the firing squad and there's no indication that anybody else will be more successful, but that's for later. 13. I've heard many Campaign Speechs and "Rally Troops" Speeches in

my lifetime. Dean's speech was a rally cry to pump up his tired campaign workers who were down because they were hoping for first place. They needed a boost and he gave it to them.

He was so kind and gracious in that speech to those who supported him, and did such a great job of "pumping them up" that I can't believe what I read posted here and the posts about what the Whore Media are doing to "Gore" him.

That we Democrats would be manipulated by this crap is amazing to me. But then I realize that we have partisans here who are as manipulative as the Whore Media.

17. I saw the speech on C-Span that night

and I didn't think it was such a big of a deal. Dr. Dean struck me as being tired and somewhat letdown. He had to be aware of the disappointment his supporters must be feeling and he probably felt that a passionate speech might invigorate them and let them know that he hadn't given up. It was only the first primary. He has done a lot to energize people in the Democratic party to get out and participate in the election. That is so important in this country. I give him due credit for that.
I haven't selected a particular candidate as I believe most of them offer a better alternative to W.
Bottom line for me though is ABB, especially after that hideous SOTU address last night.
