Who gives a shit? This is such stupid, pointless story.
Does anyone think that it may have been leaked by Rove in order to divert attention away from the Gannon story? Nothing really could come out of this, so it wouldn't damage them in the long term, whereas the Gannon story could lead to big trouble.
I say forget about the "secret tapes" and worry about storie that could actually take him down.

The main items being quoted are the bit about pot and this one:
Bush also corrected Wead when he said that an evangelical leader had said Bush promised not to hire gay men and lesbians.

"No, what I said was I wouldn't fire gays," he said on the tapes. "I'm not going to discriminate against people."

The pot issue seems like a smokescreen. He didn't admit it for kid's sake. Yeah, right.

Given the Gannon story, maybe someone in the Adminstration is close to being outed and they're putting this tape out so he can say this has always been his view when the fundamentalists start demanding he fire someone.

I would bet that if one digs deep into Doug Wead's history and connections it leads to Karl Rove.

so even if not a Rove tactic, the portion of the tapes released are uneventful. At the very least, the portions of the tapes released chosen by a Bush supporter - not like he was going to release anything terribly dammaging.

I think Bush is trying to move to the center right now (or away from the religions right) because of other tactics they have used - in order to move his agenda forward - which makes me think the tapes could likely be propaganda.
