USA NEXT (Rove/swifty anti AARP group) blames our Mothers and Fathers
USA Next blames our mothers and fathers for bankrupting our country instead of bush and the republiliars. This is from an article on their site titled "Stop Bankrupting Us, Mom and Dad".

Stop Bankrupting Us, Mom and Dad
An Angry Letter to Our Parents

By Windle Jarvis

One exhilarating result of growing up is the insatiable appetite it gives for clear explanations. Bear with us. We do deserve some answers.

For example, we teenagers want a clear explanation for those big Social Security "contributions" that took such a big bite out of our summer paychecks. Why would we be forced to pay fines and possibly be jailed if we didn't "contribute"?

<snip>
Your generation and the generation of granddad and grandmom sat still while the Social Security System gradually, year-by-year went bankrupt. The AARP just wants more of the same failed policies. We need new, freedom-based ideas. Or who will pay the big price? We will.

We're being left with more future debt to pay off than the rest of the whole world combined. Experts say our Social Security taxes alone could rise to 18 or 20%. That's on top of increased income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, excise taxes, user taxes you may leave for us.

1. sigh
what kind of generations have we spawned?

I had a young person once argue with me about why should he pay for an elderly person to have heart surgery. in their late years when they were going to die shortly anyhow.

Sigh

Something we have done wrong in raising these younguns?

What?

When compassion for others disappears in an illogical attack on the elderly?

After all, why should I pay for roads I do not use, or schools that I send no children to, nor send no grandchildren to?

Something has disappeared from the humanity of people of the United States and it, imo, is fueled by selfishness and fear and lack of reflection , slavery to materialistic yearnings and......

4. I remember my peers asking the same question in the 60s
Young folks who aren't making much money see a helluva lot more deducted from their checks in FICA than they do in income taxes. It's only natural to resent this, as they see old folks with paid off houses getting their checks every month and managing to live much better than they can on their summer paycheck.

Young folks are immortal and immune to chronic illness, and think if they live to be really really old, like 65, they'll be too old to enjoy life anyway, so why bother. They also think they'll find the secret to getting rich quick.

If they didn't think this way, if they had a clue in the world what was down the road, many of them would just end it all. Let's face it, the arrogance and ignorance of youth is the only way most of us got through it.

The best thing to do is roll your eyes in the face of this stuff and realize that they'll find out soon enough what the insurance is for. Also remind yourself that it's why teenagers aren't allowed to run the country.

8. second-year economics major at George Mason is stupid - and I care?
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 09:06 PM by papau
There is also an email the RNC is having their friends send that runs with this line of stupidity.

The email has a little more detail in that it hangs its hat on the Trust bonds being "only redeemable by the US Treasury" - not saleable in the open market. The email also talks like an intergenerational insurance system is evil (todays workers pay for yesterdays workers) because you owe your parents nothing and you can't trust your kids. And the rich will not allow a raise in the wage cap because the rich - read GOP - are not stupid like Democrats.

No real discussion of the finances, or changes desired - just the usual GOP assertion that Democrats are stupid (then again Dems may say a bit too often that the GOP folks are evil - not ALL GOP are evil :-) )

In any case, the bonds being redeemable for cash (in the next 7 years or less) from the Treasury makes them as valuable as being sold for cash in the capital markets. If making them saleable in the capital markets makes someone happy, then all that is needed is a simple law change that could pass and be signed in 24 hours.

:-)

Howard Jarvis - of California Proposition 14 fame.

Thank you Howard Jarvis and your Cooper-Jarvis Tax League for destroying the best pre-K to post-doc system of public education in the US.

Thank you Howard Jarvis and your Cooper-Jarvis Tax League for destroying the best highway system in the US.

Thank you Howard Jarvis and your Cooper-Jarvis Tax League for putting California into this Marxist "Government By Initiative, Referendum, Recall" system. Marxist? Yes I said Marxist - no, not Karl Marx, but Hollywood's own Groucho, Harpo, and Chico Marx Marxist.

Howard Jarvis - your Marxism is not funny anymore.

6. And, if in reply
Those "Granddads and grandmoms" were to say, "A big chunk of my property taxes are going to attempt to educate kids although I've had none in the school system for 30 years, so why should I have to pay?"
I'm sorry I think this attitude is our own fault. We give each succeeding generation ever greater expectations and increased sense of entitlement.

13. And that's a SPECTACULAR way to refer to it.
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 09:30 PM by calimary
Anything that pertains to this kind of thing should be - "They're attacking OUR MOMS AND DADS NOW?!??!?!?" Or, in a Brokavian sense, "They've got the NERVE to ATTACK 'The Greatest Generation'"?!?!?!?

Anything that involves pawning off a collosal debt on future generations should be referred to as "The Children's Tax." Or "Our Children's Tax." Any such scheme should be called "TAX THE CHILDREN." Or "BURDEN THE CHILDREN." Or "BURDEN OUR CHILDREN." Or "STICK IT TO THE CHILDREN." Or "STICK IT TO OUR CHILDREN."

They've already done some of our research for us, anyway. They've determined that ANY slogan or term or buzz phrase that includes the word "children" or "child" or "family" is a clear, if subtle, signal pulling subliminally at the emotions of unsuspecting listeners/viewers/readers. So let's kindly thank them for doing the legwork for us, and put it all to work - FOR OUR SIDE.

And one other thing:

When/if you find yourself in a situation where you can communicate this verbally, try to add meaning by delivering lines like these with a SAD, REGRETFUL tsk-tsk attitude. Something along the lines of - (shaking head in discouraged disgust) "Always with the blaming. They're always pointing fingers. Those conservatives. Always pointing fingers. Always gotta blame somebody else. Now they're going after (attacking) OUR MOMS AND DADS." (Followed by maybe a sigh of frustration and/or more shaking of head.)

This must be made into a SHAMEFUL thing. “FOR SHAME.”
ALWAYS PLAYING THE BLAME GAME. FOR SHAME!

It’s a GREAT way to turn this into the MOST unimaginably UNAMERICAN and UNPATRIOTIC thing one could POSSIBLY DO! Blame our Valiant World War Two generation, our moms and dads and grandparents. FOR SHAME!!!!
They believe in attacking us at our strongest points? Or, in this case, just attacking the strongest points, period? Well, FINE then. Let’s turn it STRAIGHT BACK on them and shove it down their throats. Just file it in the “Go ahead. Make my day” file.

"We're being left with more future debt to pay off than the rest of the whole world combined."

This is the only true thing I garnered from this piece, and it's not because of Social Security. It's because Bush** is running this country into the ground.

Tax cuts, wars, anti-gay legislation, paying for journalists to write things our way, borrowing from SS funds, huge corporate profits without any responsibility, no corporate liability, every child left behind...Etc..
Republican ideas..... PFFFT!!!!

17. Yes indeed, and this is something that MUST be played up. WAY up.
THIS is the party of responsibility and accountability?!?!?

THIS is their idea of loving America and waving the flag - by attacking and blaming The Greatest Generation - that shed blood on the Beaches of Normandy and Okinawa and Midway and the Shores of Tripoli? THIS is how you show your gratitude?!?!?!? THIS is how you pay them back for their SACRIFICE?!?!?!??!?!?!? THIS is the best you can do - shove off the BLAME on them?!?!??! HOW DARE YOU!?!??!?!?! LAZY!!! COWARDLY!!! CHICKENSHIT!!! UNAMERICAN!!!!

C'mon, guys. They're signaling that they want to play rough. Well, so be it. Let's show them how rough that can be.

And BTW, if EVER you get the opportunity, remind whoever's near enough to hear you that "THIS is what you get when you vote Republican." There needs to be a CONSTANT reminder that THIS debt, THIS blaming, THIS cowardice, THIS shortsightedness, THIS irresponsibility, THIS recklessness - ALL of this comes from voting Republican.

They call you on it and try to say "bullshit"?

You simply answer - "Seen any Democrats calling the shots lately? Seen ANY Democrats running things in Congress in MORE THAN A DECADE?" And other forms of "WHO's the party that's run up all the reckless debt?!?!? Who is it who's in the White House these days? Who's been running things for long enough that you can't blame the other guy anymore?" HMMMM?

You might even add - as they're sure to try to object - some form of - "well, george bush ain't no Democrat." "tom delay sure isn't a Democrat." "dennis hastert is NO Democrat." Fill in ANY names of those vermin responsible for this, really doesn't matter. The point to hammer home is - IT'S NOT THE DEMOCRATS WHO MADE THIS MESS AND GOT THE REST OF US STUCK IN IT. NOR IS IT THE DEMOCRATS WHO ARE FLAILING AROUND LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY ELSE TO BLAME. These ARE, however, the hypocrites who boasted that "the adults are back in charge." What a joke!

They'll protest, they'll huff and puff, they'll steep themselves in denial. But you'll have struck a nerve. When they head for home and/or your conversation has ended, they'll be forced to think again. The semi-adult will eventually realize, reluctantly, sure, but they WILL realize that you're correct. And YOU will wind up blowing the house down. Maybe the House, too.

Just like the Goldwater fans used to say "in your heart, you know he's right." Well, OUR version is - "in your heart, you know I'M right."

Won't do any good, though, unless it's test-driven.

One the ads on the right side of the American Spectator's webpage this ad appears:

and it links to USA Next's webpage.

These people are out of their fucking minds. I say give 'em their rope and watch them hang themselves.

Regarding the PS, I think we need to become less fixated on Bush. He'll be gone in a few years, but the rest of the radical right isn't going away with him. We need a much broader target. Specifically our goal should be to make "conservative" a dirty word.
