Legislative Probe Could Shed Light On State Worker Firings

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- If state lawmakers decide to investigate firings of state employees by the Ehrlich administration, they'll have subpoena power that might do what pending lawsuits cannot -- force the timely release of state documents.
A legal adviser to the General Assembly, assistant Attorney General Robert Zarnoch, says a legislative probe would produce more complete and faster results than would lawsuits. He says Governor Ehrlich and his department heads wouldn't want to risk appearing that they had something to hide.
Several ex-workers have had trouble finding out why they were fired. Some claim they were fired only because they are Democrats.

Now some MD state employees appear to think they were fired simply for being democrats, and that Steffens may have been behind their firings.
