There was one woman who in the Senate (or congress?) wanted to investigate this so I guess she got others on board too. :) If anything it shows they care about the security there! Who cares about all the sex? That's just the icing on the cake to get publicity.

You guys know what to do.

BATTLE STATIONS:

www.congress.org - FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING: go to the directory of Senators/Congresspeople. Click to yours. It'll show contact info for the Washington DC office, and all the local/regional offices - snail mail, email, phone #, fax #, the works. USE IT ACCORDINGLY.

If it's a Dem, URGE him or her to get behind this. A GROUNDSWELL will do it. A GROUNDSWELL is what got Barbara Boxer to stand up. A GROUNDSWELL is what got Howard Dean elected DNC Chair. A GROUNDSWELL is building behind other reps who are starting to show spine - see Maurice Hinchey.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1616085

If it's a republi-CON, CALL 'EM ANYWAY!!!! It'd be kind of nice for some of these assholes to know there are larger and larger packs of wolves breathing hot and heavy at their door. Might make 'em think twice. If not, IT'S STILL OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE THAT THEY KNOW. They need to know we are NOT sitting back and being good little doggies and doormats anymore. They need to know that the Democratic Senator who stands up for this is doing so with MUCHO support behind him/her from the folks at home - AND ELSEWHERE - maybe even in THEIR OWN STATE. They need to know they don't have a cakewalk to stomp around and strut with anymore. They need to know we are UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT, and the Sleeping Giant Has AWAKENED. And that same Sleeping Giant is PISSED TO THE MAX. It's time for US to turn the tables and start intimidating THEM for a change.

Next, IF YOU CAN, pick another state. Pick another Senator. Repeat the above.

Next, IF YOU CAN, do likewise with your own Congressman/woman. Same as above.

Next, IF YOU CAN, do likewise with the Congressman/woman over in the next district, or in one close by in your state. Dem or republi-CON. Doesn't matter. BOTH sides need to get the message.

Next, IF YOU CAN, CALL DICK DURBIN. CALL BARBARA "BACKBONE" BOXER. She now has a track record for being fearless and standing up. Call Frank Lautenberg - he was making noises about this early-on and seems to have fizzled a little (I could be wrong about this). CALL HARRY REID. He's our Senate Leader. He needs to know there's a tidal wave of support building for this out there. His spinal column, of ALL of them, needs most to be bolstered. We all need to be body casts and splints for these people. They won't stand up if they don't think the support is there.

Representative Conyers and others file amicus brief in Ohio Supreme Court

BOTTOM LINE>>>

Congressman John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, will be filing an amicus brief in the Ohio Supreme Court with the support of Senator Russ Feingold and 17 other members of the House of Representatives >>>> recommending that the Court not sanction the attorneys who brought Ohio election contest in Moss v. Bush (no.04- 2088). Mr. Conyers offered the following statement:

"The attorneys in this case had reason to believe that the election results did not reflect the will of the electorate. In good faith, they brought a case based not only on statistical probability but the depositions and affidavits of computer experts, statisticians, and election volunteers. In only a couple months, these attorneys have amassed over 900 pages of evidence.

"While we take no opinion on the underlying case, we firmly support the right of citizens to challenge elections results in court when they have a good faith basis to do so. Truly, Secretary Blackwell's attempt to sanction these attorneys is meant to send a message to anyone who dare challenge his questionable election administration. For our democracy to work properly, we can't allow this sort of intimidation by state officials.”

We HAVE to fight THAT hard, man. THIS is OUR Country and those lying SOB's don't have any Right to push US around. They are doing it, just like the whites abused the slaves, but they are not going to prevail while I have one breathe left to oppose them.

fight that hard.

I don't care if they have the majorities. They CANNOT stop us if we make a stink big enough. It wouldn't even have gotten into the "mainstream" media at all were it not for the bloggers, and aggitators like us pushing it. DOESN'T MATTER.

WE ARE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. It's not the doormats calling the shots anymore. Now we've got "Hollerin' Howard" and we're screaming as loudly, if not MORESO, than he did. Rome wasn't built in a day, either.

Tigress DEM - I salute you for your courage, your struggle, and your resolve! I'm proud and impressed. I'd bet this helps to bolster the determination of others who read your post. It should. May you bring some of that awesome strength to this fight, as well. This one, too, is for your baby, as it is for both of mine.

I've got this idea for a protest.

Rent a dumpster, get a permit for public street space near FAUX network and get a bunch of people to bring old TV's painted with FAUX NEWS on the front and throw them away.

Get a gospel choir to sing "We Will Over Come" and other good old standards. Get coverage by the other News people who will want to take down the competition and chant "THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE" and some more good stuff like that.

What do you think?

Conyers blasts ‘cut and paste’ reporting

RAW STORY

Two Democratic members of Congress who are calling for an investigation into discredited White House reporter Jeff Gannon responded with little surprise today to the latest findings that a reporter from Gannon’s organization plagiarized articles from other news organizations.

RAW STORY reported today that the conservative outlet which employed disgraced correspondent Jeff Gannon appears to have repeatedly plagiarized content from other mainstream media publications, including Fox News, Reuters and The New York Times.

In an email Tuesday evening, Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.) called Jeff Gannon a “stenographer for White House press releases,” and another reporter’s apparent plagiarism “cutting and pasting” reporting.

“These new revelations continue to call into question the journalistic credentials of Talon News, and ‘Jeff Gannon,’” Rep. Conyers wrote.

“We already know Gannon was a stenographer for White House press releases, and now we know Steve Roeder’s ‘reporting’ consisted of cutting and pasting from the Fox News website,” Conyers added. “Was Talon News really a

not so slickly designed conveyer belt for White House propaganda?”

13. Well, they can always hold one of their own Senate Democratic
Hearings like they did on the contracts in Iraq and on Social Security. It was covered on C-span (they do it on Monday or Friday when the Senate isn't in session but the Repubs would probably do something to try to get C-span to not cover it).

Those Hearings do get some press. It would give the media a good reason (excuse) to cover the story and if they can get some good witnesses, it could get really interesting.

finally reached that compelled the rEPUBLICANS to lower the boom on Nixon. It would NOT have succeeded if they had not been forced, by the roar of the public and the momentum of Watergate, to do so.

Don't forget - these people are PANDERERS. They'll bend any way the wind blows. Furthermore, their asses are still on the line, and unlike bush, they DO need more of our votes to stay in their jobs. They still want to be reelected in 2006 AND 2008. Which means they can't afford to dismiss us outright. No matter what bluster they put on. If they sense that a typhoon of people are pushing for this, they will bow to it. They'll have to.

99. Yeah, but it's out there, people know it... we don't have to harp on it.
The MOST important piece as far as DEMOCRACY is concerned is that HE's a Media Whore. The public deserves the truth in their NEWScasts.

The fact that he's doing scummy stuff in addition can simply be stated - people will run with that, but we want them to HEAR that anyone using the NEWs Media for Propognda is in the wrong, not just sleezoids.

It's like the Guy before Gonzales that had all the MOB connections, mobsters at his wedding and such, Guilianni recommended him and then people found out about his financial tie ins and mob connections.

It became a story about his recommendation was withdrawn because he had an illegal immigrant for a maid. The truth was pushed to the side.

Do you see how the repubs could turn on him, but make this all about his being a hooker and all of the sudden his whoring for the White House is no where in print?

Point well made. It is not just personal. Money was involved so that made it his second, third and fourth job of the night depending on how busy he was. (Sorry, really-really bad)

But which is fundamentally worse? (There I go again) Being a hooker or screwing everyone who is looking for unbiased journalism?

I guess I'd rather downplay DEMS ranting about the hooker aspect because those things develop a life of their own. (I can't even keep my own post in check. )

My apologies to any and all DUers from Cincinatti - no offense meant. This fellow I worked for called it that. To him (never did find out why - some veiled reference from him to the way some folks did it in some newsroom in Cincinatti where he worked. What it referred to was a lazy newswriting technique - where you basically copy, word for word, somebody else's A-wire copy or script or press release. You don't rewrite it, at all. You justs regurgitate what's already written and merely stick your own name on it.

Again, my apologies to Cincinatti-area DUers.

I detest George Allen and all his fake "Family Values" crap. I don't see him looking out for anyone but himself. He doesn't even look out for the fools who voted for him. I have never bothered wasting my time sending him my opinion on anything because I never thought he listened to anyone but his right wing propaganda machine.

If you really think it would make an ounce of difference, I will send him my opinion on a few things.

The Star and Trib here in MN is beginning to take in a few more items, although they are hardly balanced.

Then there is always the signs on the freeway overpasses. <g>

"How Does Reporting Lies as Truth fit into Family Values, George?" would be a great sign, I think. Now where would something that huge fit?

I remember seeing GW Lies and GI's Die on telephone poles.

GannonGate brought to you by GWII and Co.

I don't know. But it is fun to be creative.

36. It's all about momentum people. In the long view THIS is the...
beginning of the end.

I'm reading "The Impossible Takes A Little While" by Loeb - bought it at Buzzflash.com EVERY ACTION TO BATTLE THE OPPRESSION HELPS.

The book has writings from people who have been in the heart of various beasts and come through to see the victories.

This is our horns blasting triumphantly at the walls of Jericho - to borrow a Christian metaphor, and why not? The bushits aren't really practicing the love and compassion Christ taught, so since they are part of the problem, they are going down.

I've always believed this is One Nation Under God and however anyone interprets God is up to them, but any of the religions I've read have at their hearts people living in harmony and forgiveness. They all have been misused and get off track, but the best in all of us will suffice, whatever flavor we call it.

Anyway, if the God of my understanding is involved, he's the same guy who just wanted 10 just people to spare Sodom and Gamorrah. There are at least 485,000 people who are wanting Bush out of office.

I think there is a loving God and that He is really pissed off about Bush abusing His people. Just my opinion.

70. Oh, no. There are WAY more than 485,000 people who want bush out
of office. There were more than 56 MILLION of 'em last November, according to all counts (many of them fraudulent). The bad guys forget - John Kerry got MORE VOTES THAN ANY LIBERAL BEFORE IN AMERICAN HISTORY. They carry on about how bush got more of this vote and more of that vote (pure crap and spin, BTW) and make that out to be proof that the liberal is dead. They completely leave out the HUGE masses of people who went for Kerry, big enough that maybe, just maybe, if the vote count had been on the up-n-up, Kerry would be president today, and bush would be back in the bush leagues where he belongs.

By the way, let's not forget another one of those Bible stories - about a guy named David and his little slingshot, up against a seemingly invincible, fearsome, unstoppable behemoth named Goliath. Guess who won?

The thing that occurs to me is to maintain our vigilance, because they could become even more dangerous.

The WORST WORST legislation is HR 418 Section 102. They can build prison camps with that people, and as much as I admire the Holocaust Survivors, I don't want to be a NEO Holocaust survivor.

And honestly, when the DU has been bitching about the DEMs not having a spine, I truly don't think they realize HOW significant every little bit was.

Individuals working with blackboxvoting.org and other agencies to get the dirt on the election fraud.

Kennedy standing up again and again whether people heard him or agreed with him or not.

Reid digging in blasting away.

4 Determined lawyers in Ohio not giving up. Conyers and Boxer and the others who supported them, even if it got shoved under the rug the first time.

Votes against Condi Rice - a presidential appointment! THE nerve!

More votes against Gonzales!!! All 8 or 9 DEMs on the Judicial Committee voted against him.

Kennedy against the war in Iraq. Saved his speach, God it made me cry - made me proud to be a Democrat.

Brussels Belgium Protesting - called 100's on page A-8 of the Star Trib, but it looked closer to over 1000 by the picture on the www.stopusa.be website.

1000 people strong outside 1/6 when the electoral vote challenge went through, including Jesse Jackson.

People still having their Kerry bumper stickers on their cars.

It isn't spines we're growing, it's COMMUNITY we are forming.

UNITED WE STAND and Divided WE FALL. Worked back then, still true now.

roses she got for her troubles - from grateful Americans inside AND outside California.

Don't forget the ROAR of the grassroots that pushed for Howard Dean to be elected chair of the DNC. The cozy, incestuous, "inside-the-Beltway" status quo crowd laughed and sneered - and I'm talking OUR OWN fellow Democrats. Well, the ROAR of the grassroots sure showed them, didn't it?

Do I hear that ROAR revving up yet again?

I guess I must. Because if this is true, these Senators didn't get into this without LOTS of pushing and demanding and urging and letter-writing and phone-calling and emailing and faxing and pleading and begging and nagging. They didn't just wake up one fine day and say "HMMM, I think we ought to investigate this Jeff Gannon business." They did it because they heard a ROAR. A ROAR from US. Believe me, if we hadn't made a big noise and stink about this, they would not do any such thing. The only roaring they're used to hearing is from the other side. This time, it's coming from OUR side, and they must have noticed. Truly. It made an impression, guys. It's had an impact already. They'd go back to being doormats if they figured nobody gave a damn. Because, up til recently that's all they've heard - people insisting they be doormats.

And guess what? Times have changed. We're not in the doormat business anymore. WE ARE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. DEAL WITH IT.

69. I sent this letter to the Editor about the Gannon Story...
Who knew? Propaganda is a GOP family value

For weeks we have seen evidence of America's pundits being paid off to promote the Bush agenda. Armstrong Williams, $240,000. Maggie Gallagher, $21,500. Mike McManus, $10,000. Propaganda … priceless.

But what takes the cake is the guy who was given White House press credentials to ask softball questions to the president and Scott McClellan. One question was: "Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. Harry Reid was talking about soup lines and Hillary Clinton was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet in the same breath, they say that Social Security is rock solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work … with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?"

http://www.heraldsun.com/opinion/hsletters/index.html#578996

This one may have cost me my business partnership. Apparently you cannot have an opinion about the country outside of business hours.

98. A newsman who can't even write his own column questions...
other people being divorced from reality?

If Gannon doubts soup lines and food shelters, he can be brought to at least 100 or so until it sinks in that they do exist and that real human beings are suffering at the hands of the mighty repub machine.

If Gannon doubts that the economy itself is on the verge of collaspe, he should realize that when he supports people who only care about the rich that the rest of us aren't going to buy it and eventually something has to give.

Social Security itself is as solid as it can be because of the way it was set up. Only the government totally blowing off their word can destroy it. So it could still go up in a puff of smoke, but again it would be due to dishonesty and not the general concept.

88. Here's Durbin's letter (first 4 paragraphs):
Dear Mr. President,

At a press conference in the White House on January 26, you stated that “there needs to be a nice, independent relationship between the White House and the press.” In that same press conference, you called on a reporter then known as Jeff Gannon, who worked for an organization called Talon News.

Since that time, the public has learned that the real name of that reporter is James Dale Guckert, not Jeff Gannon, and that he had regular access to the White House press facilities for more than a year. We have also learned that the questions he posed at White House press briefings and the stories he filed for Talon News frequently mirrored Republican Party talking points, that Talon News is a news organization in name only and that it has apparently close connections to the Republican party.

Given the unprecedented level of security in Washington since 9/11, it is troubling that that a non-journalist using a false name and working for a sham news organization could have gained regular access to the White House for such an extended period of time.

Another reason the Gannon/Guckert affair is disturbing is because of what we have recently learned about apparent efforts by some in your Administration to try to “buy” favorable news coverage. These other efforts include paying news personalities Armstrong Williams and Maggie Gallagher large sums of money to promote your Administration’s education and marriage initiatives, and using tax payer dollars to produce video news releases promoting the new prescription drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries and other policies the Administration regards as accomplishments. A recent report by the General Accountability Office called such video news releases illegal uses of public funds. More recently, we have heard troubling reports that Social Security Administration officials may be using public funds and pressuring public employees to promote your goal of privatizing Social Security.

118. I want to see Dean, Kerry, Hillary & Obama ON TV quoting that letter.
And I want to see it NOW.

Letters are great for whoever is reading them- but this is not the 1890's- those talking points need to be ON TV- being said by recognizable, house-hold name Democrats.

an official inquiry tho? If the MSM picks up on this then maybe there will be no choice but to investigate. I hope so.

105. So let's have some links guys.
What do we address?

How about... How come mainsteam media IGNORES things that are IMPORTANT to People in order to stay on the pResident's good side?
Amazingly, just like Gannon did!

IGNORED: Gannongate, HR 418 Section 102, Torture Planes doing US work, Ohio Attourney's kicking Ken Blackwell's butt, Civilians being killed in Iraq, 8.8 Billion Dollars - um lost? mis-spent in Iraq?

REPORTED: How wonderful are the soldiers that were killed today vs Why aren't we doing something to bring our people home before they wind up in a box?

I'm terribly sorry about the grief these families are suffering and I believe them when they say their sons and brothers and such were good and I DO honour them, but I would have them home alive instead.

REPORTED: Lake Placid being overtaken by the Miracle On Ice 25th Anniversary and the Naming of a stadium after Herb Brooks. Nice.

BUT WHAT ABOUT>>>>
1000 people + or - protesting Bush in Brussels Belgium.
French President Jacques Chirac and Bush?
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/022205B.shtml

TORTURE IN BROOKLYN?
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/022205H.shtml

Novak going scot free and those who outed the story to jail?

97. AH! AND THIS WHY THE DONKEY IS THE EMBLEM OF DEMS!!!!
Donkeys just sit around and don't do shit, and lets things get past it. You have to kick and beat it just for it to start moving or at best, start kicking.

It is taking them long enough. Goddamnit!

107. If you think DEMS are so awful, what are you here for?
And if you look past the DU board and into the actual record of a lot of the DEMS you'll see they have been doing good things all along.

Yeah they make mistakes. Yeah, they get sideswiped by the press. Yeah, they've backed down under the repub juggernaut. So what? These people are human.

You can do better? Run for office. It takes a Hell of a lot more that saying how "hard" it is to get other people to do work to get elected... unless you want to switch stripes and go repub.

Maybe you have done a lot and are just frustrated. OK, but these people face this every day. Don't you think they want to do better? Do you think we even know 1/10th of how difficult it is to be a DEM in office these days? Even your supporters kicking you all the time.

Could you do their job?

108. Wooooooh there partner.
It's ok, it's ok.

The dems (I am one) do great things. But most of the time it's because it's gotten so boiled over that constitutuents have to yell in the democratic congressional ear. They are not quick to respond. Our senators are timid for something I have no idea, but they need to get moving.

BTW, I probably will run for office in due time.

A lot of time people make these comments and all they are doing is complaining. I can tell because as soon as I call them on it they drop off the radar.

Obviously, you are solid, but just are frustrated with the "perceived" timidity of the party.

I once thought we really lost the election until I saw how wide spread voter fraud is. Now I can't see any way with just the evidence in Ohio that we really lost.

Maybe it's because we've been lied to so much and I have had to dig so hard to find real evidence to base my opinion on, but I don't necessarily buy that the DEMS have been any more "timid" than they have had to be.

Once you get in the game, maybe you will be able to tell us more, but
my friend was an intern for a MN state DEM many years back before this all hit the fan and the repubs even in a BLUE state with DEMS having the majority were viscous in their attacks on everything.

When I've been in situations like that in order to keep my head and retain my principals, I might appear timid or weak, but the mind is going all the time and the tables will be turned.

I hope the DEMS are mostly that way and that when we get all the evidence back we will see a lot more to be proud of then.

111. Read the Polls lately the majority of the american people want checks and
balances in the government, we would have Republicans on our side as well if they were informed about the scandal. they too would want an investigation. If this is a force that the media would have to report. They have a lot to catch up on. But those moderate Republicans would be just as hot for an investigation too, dont kid yourselves this is big!

112. I agree
I agree about Ohio, there is definitely much fallibility there. As a programmer I know cheating can happen easily with those machines. Democrats like Stephanie Tubbs-Jones and Barbara Boxer really came through for us when it came to Ohio.

I am frustrated with the timidity of this Senate. Sometimes, I think at this time there is more at stake than just re-election for many of these senators. Often I hear that Kerry has no worries about getting back in the Senate, if that was the case, Kerry should've voted against many of the Bush bills and selections. Maybe it's just something I don't understand, or maybe there is a quid pro quo going on.

I am in New Mexico, so we will see how a run would go for anything. My liabilities for running are that I don't have a formal degree, I am agnostic, and I have had previous drug use way back in college. But I am upfront with my mistakes and will not cover them up. I am just not sure if my mistakes are office caliber given the scrutiny given to candidates (especially democratic) these days.

114. If a DEM wipes their ass wrong, it's a formal inquiry... but things
could change. Maybe if you could stomach it, you could run as a repub plant and have a conversion experience, repent and see the light of Democracy shining in your bedroom window.

Reverse Norm Coleman scenario.

revealing the Democratic intent before gathering full support can stop this dead in its tracks given that the Dems are the minority and there is no 'liberal media' to help their cause.

121. How, exactly?
If Republicans influences "get to" the DEMS b/f Durbin does???

The Repubs KNOW we either have intent to "do somthing"- or we don't- they are smart enough to have BOTH scenarios planned out- they are not like the DEMs...

I can understand an aprehensive instinct on this, but I disagree...

131. The only name I saw mentioned was Durbin...
...so where is the rest of this 'senate leadership'? To give this 'investigation' any kind of credibility or chance of actually taking place...they will have to add their names to it and talk about it in the public forum.

Otherwise...it's just more politicians protecting their own asses by hiding in the shadows until something 'breaks'.
