Talk of Seceding
A senator from Western Washington State is pusing a bill that will allow Western Washington secede from the rest of Washington State. The Washington Post has the full story on their website. Some Republicans have signed on with him and one Democrat. The Democrats support the bill because he thinks Western Washington takes too much tax money from Eastern Washington.

4. This will probably be about as successful as western Kansas's
attempt to secede from the rest of the state a few years ago! :eyes:

5. It's uncontistutional under Article IV., Section 3. Clause 1
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

To do what is suggested, they'll have to get with Idaho, have part of Idaho break off, and have the Idaho legislature, the Washington legislature, and the U.S. Congress consent.

The semicolon moves the consent clause to being wholly applicable only to the Jucntion clause.

6. Actually, it's Eastern Washington that wants to go. I'm for it.
Of course, I live in Western Washington, the Blue/Green part. They could call their new stat Redneckia or North Texas.

13. We do not want W. Michigan to have their own state
It would be a red state, and probably a theocracy, if they could manage to do it. I would water down Michigan's electoral votes, because there would be no major metropolis to counter act the conservative votes.

10. How's this sound?
Redraw the borders of Oregon and Washington: The eastern parts of both states form one new state, and the western parts form another.

Then the redneck repubs don't have to put up with the latte-drinking dems, and vice-versa.

11. Dosn't Quite Work
Unfortunately, there are just as many redneck repubs in the Western part of Oregon as they're are in the east. It's Northern Oregon that's relatively redneck-free.

This whole issue reminds me of Northern California and Southern Oregon trying to form the state of Jefferson. It'll never happen...as previously said it's not even constitutional. But it's still fun to laugh at.
