New Maine House Bill Would Protect Fetuses Carrying the ‘Gay Gene’
I thought I had heard it all...

AUGUSTA -– Rep. Brian Duprey (R-Hampden) has submitted a bill to the State Legislature to shield potentially homosexual fetuses from discrimination. LD 908, “An Act to Protect Homosexuals from Discrimination,” attempts to protect homosexuals from death because they might carry the gene that could lead to homosexuality.

This bill as drafted would make it a crime to abort an unborn child if that child is determined to be carrying the “homosexual gene.” Duprey said that no such genetic marker has yet been discovered. But considering rapid advancements in genetic mapping research, he wants legislation in place should such a breakthrough occur. “If the homosexual gene is ever determined to exist,” he said, “I want to ensure that a woman could not abort an unborn child simply because that child is determined to be carrying this gene.”

Duprey received the idea for this bill when listening to the Rush Limbaugh radio show. “I heard Rush saying that the day the ‘gay gene’ is determined to be real, that overnight gays would become pro-life,” Duprey said.

This guy Duprey is a real wing nut. Thank goodness the Dems are in charge!

1. They have a few priceless ones up there in Augusta, don't they!!
It feels so good to be in an all-Dem state from Gov through both houses of the legislature. I just pray that Baldacci can hold on in '06 and they don't let real losers like Chincette (sp?) in the door. He will raid the pension plans, etc. just like Olympia's loser husband, Jock, did when he was govenor. In fact, this time it would be great (but highly improbable)if we could oust Olympia. I workout with Bill Diamond's wife and was going to suggest to her that Bill run against Olympia.

2. Believe it or not we have gay males arguing the same thing in the GLBT
forum. Even men that have no interest in women just can't manage to keep their laws off her body.

4. Typical Republican thinking.
Protect unborn gays from discrimination, but not LIVING gays!
C'mon, let's all chant together:
East is west, north is south 180, 180, bad is good, hate the sin love the sinner, the earth is flat!

5. Good thing there is no gay gene!
Fucking wedge-throwing bastards. Vote this anti-choice piece of shit down. You can't fool us this easily!

This dyke supports a woman's right to choose to abort her blastocytes and fetii regardless of whether the baby's genes are straight, gay, polyamorous, polygamist, blue-eyed, autistic, chocaholic, or athletic.

morons...

6. I knew this guy named Gene...
Do these morans actually think that we'll all pile on in agreement because now we'll be saving the gay unborn? This is too fucked up. He got it from Rush? My head hurts at the idiocy of his reasoning.

7. THis same guy...
Filed a bill to allow same-sex marriage. Yep. He knew the Governor and even Equality Maine, the GLBT group, had said this wasn't the right time to push for that. Duprey said he'd vote against it if it came to the floor.

With all the important issues being discussed it's a waste of time to have to deal with idiots like this.

Even the GOP in Maine think this guy's a bit off.

8. Oh for crying out loud
Is this guy nuts? No such genetic marker has been determined, but it will be a crime to have an abortion if the genetic marker is found one day, therefore we have to waste time and money making sure we have legislation that will prosecute women.

This is more of the pre-emptive attack doctrine. All is based on speculation, of the neo-con women haters, who of course, want in the worst way to arrest and prosecute women who choose, legally, to have and abortion.

Can any of them even think or reason?

This is crazy and is an embarrassment.

12. The latest:
"I have heard from women who told me that if they found out that they were carrying a child with the gay gene, then they would abort. I think this is wrong," said Duprey, who got the idea while listening to The Rush Limbaugh Show.

But some lawmakers say Duprey is neither interested in creating new policy to protect gays and lesbians nor seriously discussing the issue of abortion. The bill, they say, is a way of forcing some lawmakers to choose between abortion rights and gay rights.

"It will be seen as some kind of political gamesmanship," said House Majority Leader Glenn Cummings, D-Portland.

Duprey drew attention to the issue of gay rights last month. He proposed a bill to legalize same-sex marriages but opposed it himself. He said he put it forward after a constituent asked him to.

And I just heard this morning that the Christian Civic League is considering running this guy against Olympia Snowe in the GOP primary next year.

16. Actually, Duprey's fairly "progressive" for a right wing nut.
If a "gay gene" is ever positively verified, most of the other right wing assholes will suddenly be FOR aborting "unborn sodomites", you could take that bet to Vegas.

Now as for being inspired by Mush Limpdick's radio show... wonder what's up there? Is Mush researching genetics because he's planning on having his own Hellspawn with the PNAC princess? Now THAT is frightening :scared:

17. I am so bummed.....
In addition to being a liberal lesbian fill-in-the-blank, I do stand-up comedy in my spare time. One of my favorite bits has to do with using homophobia as a force for good.

For example: Using homophobia to get the anti-choice folks (who also tend to be anti-gay; it's all part of the "moral values" package) to BACK OFF a bit using a campaign along the lines of "Queers were fetuses, too." Suggested using pictures of fetuses with little rainbow flags in their hands and so forth.... (It's better in performance, trust me.)

But now, THIS?!

What am I to do with THIS?!

It's one thing for these people to mess with my civil rights, environment, financial security in my dotage, and so forth, but now they're interfering with my comedy? Is nothing SACRED?! 8-)

On the good news front: Heard that the brilliant and talented Rachael Maddow completely DISASSEMBLED Duprey in a interview (today?) on Air America.
