USA NEXT calls anti-AARP ad just a test for Crazy Liberals/Video
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/02/23.html#a1680

Charlie Jarvis, chairmen of USA NEXT appeared on Inside Politics and tried to spin his way out of that disgusting ad.

Woodruff: ...is USA NEXT going to run this ad some more, and why'd you only have it up for one day?

Jarvis: We were testing to see if the left liberal groups would over react and they did. The hypothesis was that they'd focus on one single, tiny image on one website ..

Woodruff playing along: It worked.

Jarvis: It worked. By the end of yesterday, to show you how crazy the left liberal groups are and that they have a death wish on Social Security. They were literally having people call (pause)television stations all over the country to pull the ad that didn't exist. Remarkable.

His rational that a scathing reaction to a sickening ad is a "death wish" is ludicrous. That death wish will ultimatley rest on the head of Jarvis, and USA NEXT.

Michael Tanner, from the Cato Institute was appalled.

TANNER : Well, we're very disappointed in this ad. full transcript ....We don't think that we should be going down the road to in essence a bigoted approach to gay rights or things of that nature in order to sell the very positive approach that we have for individual accounts. go to site for more

3. Yeah, we've learned from the GOP how to silence opposition
Remember their hyper ventilating over the Reagan TV show and their threats?

4. He said the exact same thing on hardball.
Must be their "talking point." What an idiot. Charlie Rangell and Chris Matthews basically heckled the fool. He went on and on about the AARP liberal conspiracy theories.

The best part was when the jerk actually said something to the effect of "we just want an open and fair dialogue on social security" and Matthews responded "and how does saying that AARP is against the troops and for gay marriage have anything to do with an open and fair dialogue on social security?"

6. help, our marriage & photo was used without our permission in an anti-AAPR
We need your help, our marriage and photo was used without our permission in an anti-AARP ad being produced by the same people who made the Swiftboat Vet ads against John Kerry.

The Great People over in the DailyKOS broke this story and emailed me to let me know about this injustice; thanks guys.

This is the ad targeting the AARP because of their opposition to the President's social security plan. How this relates to the images of our nuptials and an American soldier is beyond me. But the ad ran Monday February 21, 2005 on the conservative magsite http://www.spectator.org Paid for by www.USAnext.org

It's being used on rightwing websites to somehow use anti-gay bigotry and blind patriotism to rally people against the AARP and, by extension, against preserving Social Security.

We were unaware of this action and these sites until someone in the DailyKOS broke this story and wrote to tell us about it Monday. We are at a loss as to what to do about this matter; we do not want our image used in this way.
We’ve I found out from The Portland Tribune that the image was stolen from their website and they do not have a model release from us; they broke the law didn’t they?
Now that we have been defamed, demoralized, humiliated and belittled around the world on every major news show as just "those gays" in that ad is a personal attack on our marriage, love and commitment to each other.
We are human people and this hurts!
Thank you
