Poll question: Since 6 out of 10 people are ready for a woman leader - who do you want??
Edited on Thu Feb-24-05 08:10 AM by LynneSin
Here are a few of the obvious choices, but include anyone else who you think is ready to "Clean House - the White House"

http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2005/02/23/womenpoll/index.html
Feb. 23, 2005 | ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than six in 10 voters say they believe the United States is ready for a female president, a poll found.

The poll, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute and sponsored by Hearst Newspapers, also found that 81 percent of people surveyed would vote for a woman for president and 53 percent think New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton should try for the job.

Other polls have identified the former first lady as the voters' favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination.

On the Republican side, 42 percent of voters said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice should run for the White House and 33 percent named North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole.

BTW, although Hillary comes to mind first when most folks think of a woman democrat to run for President, I have to confess that I just adore Barbara Boxer!!!

2. These threads are thinly veiled advocacy for Clinton
Wanting her just because she is a woman, would be like cheering on Clarence Thomas because he is African-American.

6. Didn't you get the memo about Hillary's inevitability?
They are mixing the Hillary Kool-Aid as we speak.

7. Yeah, I know, sound and fury signifying nothing
All this righteous indignation in one thread, only to acquiesce in the next. Few connect the dots.

3. I'd rule out anyone who voted for the Iraq War Resolution
Anyone who voted for it picked politics over doing the right thing.

5. Well...Very few will vote for a woman when they raise the terror alert
repeatedly. If the public didn't feel safe with Kerry...they will never accept a woman. We need Wes Clark. He could solve all our problems.

A ticket with both of them, either way, would be great.

9. Condi!
Only joking.

More seriously, in American presidential elections Governors do significantly better than congressfolk (including Senators).

It is also fairly likely that the first woman President will be a Repub - think Maggie Thatcher over here.

10. The way politics is today...not even Mother Teresa will...
make to the all-boys nazi presidency.

In old fashioned politics, Hillary is the best choice. In today's politics, either Ophra or Maria Schwartsnazi will make it ahead of Hillary.

My choice if it's by fame, I choose ...forgot her name...Sleeping with a Stranger actress, and she's married to famous Warren Beatty.

into a wimpy deviant who couldn't be trusted.

They would also destroy the VP nominee ThreeStarGeneralVirginMary as someone who could never have attained her position on her own.

12. I have no problem at all with a women President, but
I'll got to be honest, Rep Cynthia McKinney, GA-4 would be way, way down on my list of women.

I'm sure she does a great job in her district, but as President?

Please!!!

18. Maybe just a jaded opinion, but it's mine
I don't think this country is ready for a woman President (especially during war time) and I think running one would be a catastrophe and an assured loss.
I believe Rove is just trying to manipulate this agenda and sway us into doing something that would be a certified loss.
Either that or they are trying to prepare us for President Kinda-sleezy Rice. Either way, we lose.
We reallly need to get these machines fixed before the next selections.

20. Polls like this. . .
are just like polls that once said Colin Powell could be President. That was pure baloney! White America would never have made him President; and unfortunately unless the woman candidate is part of the evil(R)empire it ain't happening. It's the right thing to say that you'd vote for a woman. But there are bigots and bible-thumpers who believe a woman belongs in the kithchen barefoot and pregnant all over this land. And they are the most likely to vote!

21. How about "No problem with a woman, just none of the above" ?
Of those named, I don't feel that the ones I know well enough belong in the spot. Gender certainly has nothing to do with my choice.

22. 60% say yeah, meaning 40% say nay, meaning
that a woman candidate would have to get at least 85% of the 60% that said yeah in order to win an election. It is an impossible task. To start out with a built in 40% handicap means that a woman would lose, according to the poll.

24. Draft Boxer
A reliable Democrat and a tough public speaker and debater. She can hold her own on a national stage and knows how to handle herself in a public forum, as well as formulate policies that are smart and thorough. She'd be my pick.

26. It's all about the numbers
Hate to say it, but if 40 pct of voters would automatically vote for the other 'guy', it's a huge hill to climb to win a general election.

I think HC is too smart to start a fight with one hand tied behind her back.

27. I want to run to be president.
I think I'd be good at it. I'll make a run for it in 20 years. ;)

I don't really care much for Hillary at the moment, but she really is our best shot.

I do like Barbara Boxer though mostly for just standing up to Rice like that. Too many Democratic Congress people seem to be afraid to stand up to the Republicans.

29. I think the "6 out of 10" is bogus
I think the poll was a set up to get Hillary to run. I think after
9-11 that it will be awhile longer before we have a female president. I'm all for a woman president, I just don't believe Americans will go for it as much as suggested..
