Santorum says too much for his own good...
I was watching PCN (Pennsylvania Commonwealth Network) coverage of two of Little Ricky's Social Security town hall meetings this week in PA. I couldn't make it to the one in my hometown. I'm not sure if that's good or bad!

Anyway, I digress. Today's was in Mechanicsburg (near Philly) and he stated (and I'm paraphrasing) "I'm having ten of these meetings this week and my 54 fellow Republican Senators are having only ten between all of them." Now, maybe it's me but shouldn't that be a bad sign for the plan? At least he shouldn't advertise that support seems to be a little bit...lacking.

In today's Santorum was also incredibly rude to anyone to whom he couldn't respond, "Thank you. You're preaching to the choir with me." One guy asked why the SS surplus can't just be left alone and put back into the SS system. Santorum interrupted him five or six times with "You just want the money to sit there? You don't want it spent?"

The one I watched yesterday was filmed Tuesday in Philly and Santorum was clearly clueless there. I kept thinking...for writing the sales pitch, he has no idea what's going on. He argued with the rep. from the Social Security Administration about basis points and turned away from the mic when mentioning the debt it would cause.

In conclusion to this little rant, I would like to offer my apologies as a citizen of PA (who certainly did not and will not vote for Little Ricky) to all of the country who now gets the privilege of seeing him on television pushing this. I was, simply put, ashamed that he represents me.

3. Isn't Mechanicsburg close to Harrisburg?
I have no doubt Santorum has said enough already to FILL the airwaves with ads against him in 2006.

Why wait? The DNC should put ads up against him TOMORROW!

4. If Santorum thought the PA press would give him the same free pass
the press gives Bush, believe me, he would have had these meetings closed to the general public and attendance of screened invitees only, with pre-approved questions. But the Pittsburgh and Phillie papers would roast him.

5. Let Him Take the Lead on a Failing Issue
Go ahead Ricky. Stick your neck out and take a leadership role on this issue. It will help us defeat you with Bob Casey.

11. He says....
... "You just want the money to sit there? You don't want it spent?"

Don't worry there little fella, that money HAS been spent. It is spent not only for current SS benefits, but also for current gevernment spending. It is gone.

Probably the most regressive tax ever devised, it has been collected in the name of paying future benefits, but it is spent now.

Prediction: a lot of people are going to wish Al Gore's lockbox was a reality.

12. DID you hit the jackpot ricky boy????????
hes a regular republican.a liar and do as I say not as I do

U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.)
snip

In a 1995 floor speech supporting damages caps, Santorum said, “We have a much too costly legal system. It is one that makes us uncompetitive and inefficient, and one that is not fair to society as a whole. While we may have people, individuals, who hit the jackpot and win the lottery in some cases, that is not exactly what our legal system should be designed to do.” <7>

But the same rhetoric does not seem to apply to Senator Santorum. In December 1999 Santorum supported his wife’s medical malpractice lawsuit against her chiropractor for $500,000. <8> At trial, the Senator testified that his wife should be compensated for the pain and suffering caused by a botched spine adjustment, claiming that she had to “treat her back gingerly” <9> and could no longer accompany him on the campaign trail. After the verdict, Santorum refused to answer phone calls asking what impact the case had on his views of “tort reform.” <10>
