He grew up in Coral Gables, and has ink in his blood - his father was general manager of the now-closed Miami News.
Eberle joined the Gannett Company Inc. on graduation from the University of Dayton. He has served as vice president and editor of The Indianapolis Star, and executive editor at The News-Press in Fort Myers. He also has worked at newspapers in West Virginia, Louisiana and Pennsylvania, as well as at USA Today.
In his 32 years as a journalist, he was honored twice as one of the top 10 editors of the Gannett Co., Inc., which owns Florida Today, USA Today and 97 other newspapers nationwide.
Since his arrival at Florida Today in January 2003, Eberle has led a reexamination of the newspaper's news coverage and launched a redesign of the newspaper that was unveiled to readers in early February 2004.
He also writes a twice-monthly editorial page column that appears on Sundays to talk to readers about the newspaper and what's going on in the newsroom.
