You gotta be kidding me--Rush Limbaugh in Afghanistan???
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_022305/content/rush_in_afghanistan_.guest.html

I'm deeply concerned that such a shameful, hateful, lying blowhard like Rush Limbaugh is currently sauntering around the sands of Afghanistan, doing the following:

--Meeting with military officials at the US Agency for International Development.
--Meeting with president Harmid Karzai
--Receiving a briefing from the Afghan ambassador at the Embassy.
--Meeting and Q & A with the troops, during which he received "policy questions". One of those questions was, "Do you think the Afghan people should adopt the U.S. system, or should they be allowed to adopt their own system?"

I have no problem with this court jester traveling where ever his Diner's Club card can take him. However, I do have a problem that this visit seems "official." Excuse me, but we're sending a propagandist-entertainer to meet with the newly elected president of a foreign nation???

What is going on here? Limbaugh, who insists, "I can defeat liberals with half of my brain tied behind my back" is not a serious person. He's a loud-mouthed, lying partisan blowhard who uses song parodies, exaggerations and disinformation to push the conservative agenda. Rush has his fans, and that's cool. However, this is not a man who should be meeting with world leaders, ambassadors and answering policy questions to groups of U.S. military personnel.

This really stinks! Has the world gone mad?

Is someone propping up Rush to run for office or is Bush planning to appoint him to a government position?

Does anyone know who arranged this junket? And why?

7. Well, it hasn't cleared up...
...he just pops 200 Vicodin daily, and it doesn't bother him.

If he runs out of Vicodin, he can always enjoy some of the world's freshest opium!

...I think it's time for me to turn in.

It's hard to read all of this stuff and then try to go to sleep. I often have nightmares about *.

I think I'll give it and hit the sheets.

I'm just glad that on Nov 8---I'll most likely be free to move about the country.

6. Drugs are cheap and plentiful in Afghanistan. Particularly after we
arrived.

He probably lost his connection for Oxy, so he's shopping. Bet they let him back in through the VIP line at US Port of Entry - no searches, even though he's a convicted felon.

Oh, Lucky Man.

11. What hurts the most is that he's telling the troops that we don't care
He's lying to them, and I feel so helpless to stop him. All they get over there is Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. How f-ed up their minds must be if that's all they get to listen to. It's like they're being indoctrinated. Gotta make sure they're happy little troops being sent off to die. Do it for your country comrade.

Sick fascist bastard. How about telling them the truth for once.

We have GOT to get the troops the opposing viewpoint somehow. Please tell me they're not all buying into this crap.

I really hope there are more of us out there that see through this crap than it seems like right now.

Damn it, in tears again. First time today.

13. Right, as we continue to shout-Support Our Troops, Bring Them Home, NOW!
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 02:34 AM by LaPera

"Ya want to support our troops?
Stop sending them on stupid wars!"

Fighting for corporate greed, imperialism & "never ending wars".

A draft for the corporations?

I guess Al Franken, Robin Williams, etc. got to Limbaugh with their trips, and the pigman realized he had to go somewhere to show his "patriotism" to his mindless audience. (Paid for with our tax dollars of course).

I just found this article about Limbaugh's visit being sponsored by our government--as a way to hype and spin their take on Afghanistan.

I don't know what to say. I never, ever thought I'd see the day when our government would send Rush Limbaugh to a foreign nation--representing the United States--and blatantly use Limbaugh's radio program to leverage their agenda.

I think I'm gonna puke.

"WASHINGTON, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is expected to visit Afghanistan with the top U.S. aid official to spotlight America's aid work there, officials said on Thursday..."

"...The Bush administration has come under sharp criticism for the Education Department's payment of $240,000 to conservative commentator Armstrong Williams to tout President George W. Bush's education plan..."

"...It's trying to get people to pay attention to all the good things we are doing in Afghanistan," a U.S. official who asked not to be named said of the trip, which is expected to take place next week. "This is just a different kind of outreach...."

"...The administrator of USAID is anxious to get that message out to the American public about our successful programming ... on democracy building, improved health care, improved access to education for women and children," Grieco added..."

17. It makes sense since this is the only voice they hear
He's like their indoctrinator. That point only came home to me this week. When everything is revealed to be the hateful sham it was, I hope that people will see the blood on his hands as well. How dare he lie to our troops. How dare he.

18. There's a definite conflict here...the White House is crossing the line!!
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 02:07 AM by TwoSparkles
Again! Another journalism-related conflict of interest.

It sounds like the U.S. government sponsored Limbaugh's trip, and that sending Limbaugh was part of their plan to put favorable light on government actions in Afghanistan.

I assume they are paying Rush. They're arranging all of these high-level meetings with officials, including Harmid Karzai. Obviously, Limbaugh didn't arrange that meeting. Our government did.

In effect, our government is paying Limbaugh to use his radio program to say nice things about Afghanistan and to prop up this administration.

This is unbelievable.

Do these criminals ever stop behaving like thugs?

Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 02:17 AM by KrazyKat
He went with Mary Matalin, former Cheney aide (and James Carville's wife). She stated that the government would probably cover the cost of her visit to Afghanistan, at least from Dubai.

So what the hell is Rush-f**kin-Limbaugh doing out on state business -- he's a **radio personality** for God's sake! However, he's obviously a big, fat cog in the right-wing propaganda machine, so he gets a pass (literally). Drug addict? Pass. State-paid junkets? Pass.

Imagine if a Democrat pulled this shit????? It'd be an international incident! :grr: :nuke:

Limbaugh to visit Afghanistan with US aid official
18 Feb 2005 01:40:10 GMT
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is expected to visit Afghanistan with the top U.S. aid official to spotlight America's aid work there, officials said on Thursday.

Political commentator Mary Matalin, a former White House aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, will also be on the trip. She said she was not being paid to go and would pay her own way to Dubai but she believed the U.S. government would cover the cost of her visit to Afghanistan from there.

Is Rush Limbaugh the next Armstrong Williams?
According to Reuters:
Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is expected to visit Afghanistan with the top U.S. aid official to spotlight America's aid work there, officials said on Thursday.
<...>
"It's trying to get people to pay attention to all the good things we are doing in Afghanistan," a U.S. official who asked not to be named said of the trip, which is expected to take place next week. "This is just a different kind of outreach."

While it isn't clear who is paying for Limbaugh's trip, or if he is being paid for his time, the comments by the "U.S. official" certainly suggest the Bush administration is using Limbaugh to promote its agenda.

Limbaugh -- who said in April 2004 that women "actually wish" to be sexually harassed, said in March 2004 that " Chavez is a Chavez. We've always had problems with them," claimed last year that "John Kerry really doesn't think 3,000 Americans dead in one day is that big a deal," and asserted that the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. military personnel at Abu Ghraib was no worse than a fraternity prank -- is a close ally of the Bush White House. So close, in fact, that he "got a big hug from the president" at a White House Christmas party.

22. I Guess We Will Just Continue to Complain
Because our reps and Senators won't do a damn thing. You want to talk about tax dollars?? You are aware that his show is broadcast everyday (at least 1 hour of it) on the Armed Forces Radio Service? You do know that yours and my tax money pay for Armed Forces Radio, right?

Let me ask you how you think I feel? I'm a 21 year Navy man. I am a proud "bleeding heart liberal". I am a proud Democrat! My money is being spent so that a man who would not serve when his country called, can tell my Shipmates, my family, my friends, my fellow American military members that...

- "I" support the terrorist!
- "I" hate the military!
- "I" hope more troops get killed!
- "I" am unAmerican!
- "I" have no morals!
- "I" blame America first!

etc........

I've gone so far as to write recently to my two Republican Senators Voinovich and Dewine (OH), stating that I obviously am not needed in the military anymore, or wanted, and that I plan to resign my commission. Sent copies of those e-mails to the Columbus Dispatch, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The silence back from two people that are supposed to represent me has been deafening!

This is an outrage that should cause almost "revolutionary" action. I would hope that the Dems would shut down the Senate until action is taken to get this fat pig off AFRTS.

Playing nice has not worked.

20. We're also paying for his girlfriend to go with him
I heard on AAR the other night that the taxpayers are also paying for him to take his girlfriend over there with him. He is pissed off that the USO did not ask him to go over and visit the troops, so the administration agreed to pick let us taxpayers pick up the tab.

23. MSM Will never tell
You know the MSM will never let on that our taxpayers are funding this fat ass and his girlfriend on their little vacation. If the MSM let on just half the things the shrub has done, he would have been out on his ass by now, along with his neocon cronies. Unless most of Americans have become complacent, which I fear is exactly what has happened.
