Christian Right Mum On Gannon Affair
Bill Berkowitz: Working For Change 2/24

Why have the 'traditional family values folks' erected a wall of silence around the Gannon scandal?

They were livid over Sponge Bob Square pants' participation in a video advoctating tolerance, and fuming about Buster the Bunny's visit to a lesbian household. So where's the outrage from the Christian Right over the Jeff Gannon Affair? Despite a chunk of time having passed since the Gannon Affair was first uncovered, Christian Right organizations are still cloaked in silence. As of Feb 24, there wsn't any news about the Gannon Affair available on the Web sites of Focus on the Family Association, the Family Research Council, the American Family Association, or the Traditional Values Coalition. As best as I could determine, no special alerts about the Gannon Affair have been issued; and no campaigns have been launched to et to the bottom of the matter.

(Bill then goes on to discuss his phone calls and other communications with a whole raft of right wing 'family values' pressure groups. Great stuff!)

1. I guess falwell, robertson etc
will dig in the old testament and start preaching the glory of sodomy. If a republican president is doing it it must be a-ok with the lord. Maybe evangelists will now open their arms and legs to homosexuals, praise the lord. Or maybe the haters will look in the mirror and cry.

2. Well, here's the way a RW nutjob/evangelical poster puts it:

I'm mad as heck, and can't keep quiet any more. I'm telling all my
fellow conservative Christians about a story being buried by the
liberal media to protect one of their sodomite members. I hope
that's what is going on, becase I can't believe a good man like
President Bush would let this happen in our White House. This homo
faked his background and got into the white house for two years or
more under a fake name. He even got to ask the President questions
and got called on alot by the Press secretarees. Get this, the guy
was a hooker too, and not a jigolo, but a homo hooker! Looks like
Bush has someone getting blackmaled and should be fired for being a
sodomite. I bet it is the Press guy, he looks like a fag.

How long will these guys keep screwing up? That homeland security
guy had an affair across from the twin tower rubble, now a homo
hooker in the white house! Are they tring to give the country back
to the abortionists and sodomites again? They got warned 52 times
before 9/11 and didnt do nothing, they got rid of Sadam, but see how
they messed things up after? Did we bet on the rong horse? I knew I
shoulda voted for Buchanan in 2000. But I'm not leaving my
commenders side. Mr. Bush needs our help. We need to tell everyone
that the lib press is trying to sneak under our tent flap! Pass it
on!

11. Great find!
This is just the kind of scandal that can infuriate enough Evangelicals to pull their support from Chimp & Co. He had to suck up to the religious right (sorry for the pun) in order to get their votes, but if things like this start to stain Saint George's image, the right might just go shopping for another theocrat to support. Even more likely now that they are emboldened by the "man-date" they gave Chimp last November.

you stupid idiot! Did Clinton allow anything like this? Freakin no. Your President OWNS the media! Remember Armstrong Williams and his buddies who were paid with YOUR and others tax dollars to spew propoganda? Idiot. Why else do you think there are so many blogs out there? Duh! It's not the liberal press!

38. From a Republican Yahoo group
I temporarily joined a Repub Yahoo group to see what kind of issues were being discussed. It had a heavy flavoring of Evangelism, which is overbearing for me at least and lots of info links. I saw very little in the way of response to the poster. I'm not on the group anymore--just kept this post in my in box as a reminder.

3. Maybe Gannon's sex life isn't relevant
The issue is that Gannon got a press pass when he shouldn't have.

What does his sex life have to do with that?

4. And he shouldn't have....why?
Because 1)he wasn't really a journalist, and 2)he wasn't really a journalist because he WAS really running an escort service (isn't prostitution illegal?).

The escort service isn't terribly relevant, but it's certainly fun.
Also, if this were a Democrat, it would become instantly relevant.

5. The analogy is flawed
Your analogy with the Democrats is misformed. Here is the truly analogous situation:

Democratic president.

Sympathetic, liberal reporter who is secretly not a reporter but is instead an illegal dealer in bio-engineered products (something that the president and his supporters are supposed to hate).

19. Of course
This guy proves that. He claims Gannon was part of the "liberal press" and went on about him being a homosexual postitute even though Gannon claimed to be a Christian conservative and it was part of "his past." :eyes: So it's only fair we should do this too. Even if it's just to get this story out there and people looking at it.

8. Republicans have made sex in particular gay sex relevant
They have harped on it for decades. Yet it appears that they are the majority of the ones caught in the act. They are the ones establishing the rules. When we find them breaking their rules they change the rules. Suddenly sex is not relevant. Tell that to Clinton.

9. Sex life or prostitution? Sex stops being private when you bill for it.
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 10:22 AM by robbedvoter
Stops being legal too.
See, we here think sex is perfectly moral, gay or straight. It's THEM who quibble over tecnicalities - but only when it can strike political enemies.
In this story sex is merely the cherry on top (he did advertise as a top man, right?)

23. Let's go over this again.
Regarding his professional "sex life"...

It was illegal.
It involved pornographic websites.
It could easily have involved blackmail.
It didn't involve journalism.

Ergo, he wasn't qualified to get even a daily pass to White House briefings, let alone presidential press conferences, if anybody checked his background. Which begs the question, who let him in? And why?

7. Jesus said,
Why do you try to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye, when there is a beam in your own eye? First remove the beam that is in your eye, then you can clearly see to help your brother remove the speck that is in his eye.

This bunch has an entire lumberyard sticking out of their eyes, but they somehow are able to point out a multitude of specks in the eyes of others. But that's okay, because they really aren't interested in helping anyone besides themselves; they are free to criticize others because they don't really want to help remove the specks. They point out the sins of others not to help them, but merely to make themselves appear more righteous and to hide their own faults.

35. Another "Gannon"? APRIL RYAN-JAMES
I can't start threads, but a very curious, intelligent friend of mine posted this on a message board I frequent. So many amazing sleuths here, I thought it would be a good place to post it. From ms in la:

Been doing a little research-- but have to go to work now
and can't complete it. There is an African American so-called
"journalist" also in on WH PRESS briefings. FOund in the
Gannon Freeper posts that he likes her - that W likes her-
(That was enough to rouse my suspicions!) Then this post:
=========================

To: ejdrapes

April is a 30+ year old black female reporter who President Bush
seems to like, I'm not sure who she works for, but she is not like
the others, she's respectful in her tone and questions

April reports for Urban America Radio. W does indeed like her, as do
I. However, many of her questions at the White House press breifings
begin with "Jesse Jackson says..."

She's one of THEM, make no mistake about it.

12 posted on 04/16/2004 7:41:36 PM PDT by Jeff Gannon
========================
"She's one of THEM--" caught my interest. Guess what?
She seems to have NO BIO , no background. Impossible to
find anything on her. May be another fake name. I did find her
invited to a White House dinner with Cheney, W, Condi, all the
usual admin. suspects, some heads of state and....Armstrong Williams
and April Ryan (the ONLY "journalists" I saw on the list)
She is supposedly working for American Urban Radio - which appears
to be owned by a Mellon (as in Mellon Scaife as in right wing
billionaire hate fest on Clinton ) Here's a warm exchange with
bush at a WH Press conference upon her return from maternity leave.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April Ryan James of American Urban Radio Network
The WP's Lloyd Grove notes that President Bush was apparently hoping
for a very special present from White House correspondent April Ryan,
who just returned from maternity leave. "What's the name of the
baby?" Bush asked Ryan yesterday, during a photo-op with Czech
President Vaclav Havel. "Ryan Tyler James," she answered. "There's
no 'W.' Sorry."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now that's cute. She gave him lots of Gannon-ish questions before
the war in Iraq, including asking him about his faith and should
we the American people pray now as he recommended at 9/11?

I SMELL ANOTHER PAID FAKE JOURNALIST GUYS!!!
Can someone get on this while I go earn a living to pay my
outrageously exhorbitant health insurance premiums?!

Goes by April Ryan and married name April Ryan James-- but I
feel it's a fake name.

ms in la (sleuthing)

And it's at the Clinton Foundation site.
Here it is...

She was also at the State Dinner for the president of Kenya in 2003... her company seems legit.

There may be others, but seems this one's okay....in fact, here are the rest of the WH correspondents. Keep sleuthing!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/administration/whbriefing/correspondents.html

In fact, that list makes Gannon situation look even more fucked up.
