Why Gannon Scares The Right

Look at it from the Reactionary perspective:

- Gannon was (is?) a high-priced gay prostitute who also effectively used the Internet to function as a pimp. This is someone who is not constrained by things such as traditional values or what most conservatives regard as moral behavior. What isn't he capable of?

- He somehow bypassed all known standard White House security procedures and was allowed to ask questions of some of some the most powerful Executive Branch officials, including the President of the United States. How did he do this?

- He knows way too much. He must have had some sort of connections to key people in order to gain entrance into the Holiest of Holies. If we anger or alienate him will he sell what he knows to the highest bidder, effectively setting off a scandal we will not be able to control?

- He won't shut up. Despite efforts to bury this story, Gannon continues to seek publicity wherever he can get it. His appearances on TV in particular are giving this story legs it wouldn't have ordinarily had if he had only kept his mouth shut. What is his motive for keeping this story alive? Careering? Narcissism? Or has he figured out that if he keeps himself in the public spotlight we have to keep supporting him?

- What will happen when the media grows tired of inviting him to appear on their programs and in their publications. Will he feel the need to regain the spotlight? How will he do this?

- Is he really a conservative born-again Christian acting out on his ideals as he asserts, or merely a street hustler who has discovered a con that could very well make him a wealthy and famous man? And if he doesn't get our money, will he get it from the likes of CBS or the New York Times?

- Has he had any kind of sexual liaison with high visibility conservatives?

- Are we being blackmailed?

My take? Gannon has the right in this country, figuratively and literally, by the balls. He is feeding this scandal as assiduously as we are... for very different reasons, of course.

He may be scared, and figures if he keeps in the public eye, he won't get "suicided".

He may be trying to blackmail them, or threatening to do so, by being public. One theory about the Moonies publishing the 1990 scandal was that it was a threat to them. Once it succeeded, they shut up.

He obviously knows too much. He could be keptin line by threats, by money, or by loyalty. I'm betting he doesn't have much in the way of integrity, so the last is probably not a very strong hold. He is evidently broke, since he's selling stuff on e-bay, and who but an exibitionist would want him as an escort now?

If the CCM (corrupt corporate media) goes after him, what does he have to lose? I'm betting that eventually the lure of notoriety and the lure of LOTS of money from a tell-all book, will lead him to write that book.

On edit: If he were any kind of "born-again", he'd have dumped those web pages long ago.

4. Ironic, Isn't It?

Gannon himslef is fueling the Gannon Scandal as much as anything or anyone else. Maybe out of ambition, maybe fear, or perhaps he thinks he is furthering "the cause."

I'm thinking it's a mix of all 3. And the right has got to wonder how they ever got saddled with such a loose cannon.
