POISON THE WELL.
Judging from the conversations I hear and am reading, there are people slowly but surely waking up about this, and about what damage and wreckage and recklessness THEY HAVE ENABLED. A lot of "hey, I didn't vote for THIS..." or "uh, wait a minute, THAT'S not what I voted for..."
What you have to do is GENTLY reinforce this, and GENTLY plant seeds - to POISON THE WELL.
If/when you encounter this (face-to-face is always best) - I recommend a LEETLE bit of acting...
Look at them a tiny bit sadly or mournfully. Then sigh and shake your head a little bit. And then go in for the kill - just quietly add - "(sigh) I guess that's what happens when people vote Republican..."
OR: if you don't know this person - or they don't know you (and your politics), say it's at the grocery store in the check-out line, or at the dry cleaners, or while pumping gas at the self-serve, or at the local coffee place or waiting in line at the movies or something - you could even say "(sigh) I guess that's what happens when we vote Republican..." Note the use of the pronoun "we." They DON'T HAVE TO KNOW your political leanings. FAR BETTER to leave them with the impression that you are also one of the sheep, that's finally going through a rude awakening. In other words, YOU'VE NOW NOTICED THAT YOU'VE BEEN SCREWED, TOO. A mutual thing, creating a little bitty bond between you and them. A VERY SUBTLE mutual thing. An unhappy little club you've now joined, together.
THEN, TO BRING IT ALL HOME:
You finish the encounter or this moment with a disgruntled, dejected "I'll never make THAT mistake again..."
AND YOU LEAVE IT AT THAT.
NO debate. NO details. NO fine points. NO mention of bush. NO mention of Clinton. NO mention of any of it. All you want is the sweeping, overriding - yet extremely deadly - generality.
You plant the seed. Sometimes you might be talking to someone who is wavering, who has felt inklings of this, or vague suspicions of this, or vague suspicions of SOMETHING that they don't yet realize is this. They may not know what it could possibly be. All they know is that something is DEEPLY, DEADLY wrong. This very subtle side-swipe may be all the nudge they need to crystalize their unease into an "aHA!" moment. It'll get 'em thinking. Then, it'll get 'em mad. Then, they'll want to get even.
Because one way or other, bush will be gone in four years (or, preferably LESS). Unfortunately, his pals in the Grab Our Pensions party will still be around to screw another day and another American. So it's ESSENTIAL to POISON THE WELL. Let bush be their last hurrah, and the faded, delusional "glory days" they wistfully look back on when THEY'VE become the permanent minority party. Let all the air hiss out of their tires and the door slam with him. POISON THE WELL. Plant the seeds that sprout into a deep-seated conviction that it is unthinkable to vote republi-CON (unless, of course, you own a piece of the military-industrial complex or you're one of the "have-more's" - but they're hopeless and beyond reach. Don't even waste your time on them - it's the "little guy" you want).
POISON THE WELL. That way you start building the bridge in their minds and deep in their hearts and psyches that equates "Republican" with "BAD." It's that simple. That basic. As they said in "Field of Dreams," if you build it, they will come. If you build that bridge in their minds, they will come, and they will cross it.
