Former Dean Dozen from CT speaks out against Lieberman.. .others join in.
http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/local/scn-gt-lieberman4feb25,0,7217226.story?coll=green-news-local-headlines

"Many Democrats know it simply as "the kiss."

But when U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., exchanged a public display of affection with President Bush after this month's State of the Union address, the gesture signaled a long kiss goodbye for some liberal Democrats in the senator's home state.

"I think Senator Lieberman has been behaving much more like a Republican than a Democrat, and I think he needs to take another look at his constituents," said Kim Hynes, a Democrat from Lieberman's hometown of Stamford. "We live in a blue state and most people are opposed to the current administration." (Kim was a Dean Dozen.)

SNIP.."Hynes, who ran unsuccessfully for the General Assembly last year, is not alone, however. I think it would be a very healthy thing for Lieberman to be challenged in a Democratic primary," said Mary Sullivan, a former Democratic National Committee member from Riverside. "It might make him more accountable or responsive to the sentiment of Democratic voters in the state."

(The article further states that Lieberman's approval is high, among others than just Democrats....assume they mean Republicans. It further states that Democratic party stalwarts support him firmly.)

I like this part, though, in spite of the fact that it would be quite a task to oppose him:

SNIP..."But what about "the kiss?" Lieberman's aides and supporters made light of the exchange, in which Bush pecked Lieberman on the cheek after a brief embrace.

For the senator's critics, however, the moment will live in infamy.

"I'm not upset with the kiss at the State of the Union," said Nathan Karnes, a member of the New Haven Democratic Town Committee and Democracy for America. "It's exactly what we needed. It's symbolic of why Joe Lieberman needs to be challenged."
Sullivan, like Hynes and several other Lieberman critics, volunteered for former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's failed White House bid last year...."

1. The kiss wasn't Joe Lieberman's fault.
Bush is a bully who may publicly kiss any man to emabarass him.

I'm against Joe Lieberman because of his record.

3. He may have been kissed because of his record.
Hard to separate the two. He is talking about supporting Bush on Social Security, then he would truly be a Judas.

15. That was a rape kiss and hug.
Lieberman said "I offered him my hand and he gave me a manly embrace!"
(Recorded on NPR's "Wait! Wait! Don't tell me!")

Body language is crucial on the Senate floor. Senators always vie to have the upper hand to show their power. Dubya symbolized his dominance of the Democratic Senators by picking on the weakest and smallest member. Always run after the girls in heels, not the female body builders. Imagine him trying that with Kerry! (Kerry got the upper hand before the first presidential debate by bending down and whispering in little Georgie's ear. Classic.)

That said I would like to see Lieberman replaced by a Real Democrat. Since CT is blue, it should not be hard to get a good Dem to take his place.

2. It's so surreal..why lieberman would
be in place to kiss bush!

And it is so SYMBOLIC! We couldn't have asked for anything better to signify what we've been saying for years.. he's a "9/11 republican"!

8. Joe Lieberman didn't kiss Bush. Bush kissed him.
It shows Bush's tastelessness.

10. One of the unstated goals of DFA.....
is to run candidates in the primary against those who do not stand for Democratic party principles. It is being talked about there now and then.

Would be expensive, most likely would lose, but would maybe force him to stand up a little.

I am also suspicious when many of his constituents are Republicans. That is what has happened to our party in Florida in so many areas. They had to be like them to win, then they won, then they became just like them.

16. Marshall wrote about that today
snip>
Just this morning I was talking with some political players involved in the Social Security fight and they were wondering how quickly a few hundred thousand dollars of seed money could be raised to fund a decent primary opponent to run against Lieberman next year. And I have to say, I think they could raise it pretty quickly.

After half a decade without any senators to represent me, I'm happy to have two I can call my own again. And luckily, Schumer and Clinton are strong supporters of Social Security. But if I lived in Connecticut and my own senator ended up deep-sixing Social Security all by himself, I'd certainly support someone who challenged him. Actually, I'd happily see him replaced by a Republican if that's what it came to.

Millions rely on Social Security, a right earned through a lifetime of work. It's a compact between citizens and between generations. And like all truly good legislation it makes for good policy and good politics. One senator from Connecticut is a small thing when weighed in that balance.

He's the deal-maker. All the signs are showing it.

Sen. Lieberman's popular in Connecticut. But there must be some folks in Connecticut who support Social Security too.
