Bill Maher: New Rules/Video /You Love Hollywood
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/02/26.html#a1710 has the video
Bill: Hollywood isn't your cesspoll America. it's your mirror.

It's America's last export, I mean besides the torture.

Hollywood won't turn your daughter into a nymphomaniac or get her hooked on drugs. I will.

1. Thank God for Bill's closing 'Round Midnight
because the show was a yawner. It's pretty bad when Tucker Carlson is your best guest.

What's up with Bill's courting of the conservatives? I'm already sick of it.

11. Actually he believes a lot of what he says.
He was for the war, he has advocated that torture could be beneficial, he excused our killing of the Iraqi civilians.

He is that way. It is a matter of personal taste, and I am finding a lot of what he says lately tasteless.

I think one of his good friends, Ann Coulter, may have rubbed off a little.

I think we should feel free to disapprove of what comedians say, just like we do when politicians and news folks say things we don't like.

It is unpopular here to say anything bad against him or the Daily Show. It should be ok. There is nothing wrong with it.

14. I think if you speak from the heart.....
most DUers are willing to listen.
This site is not about popularity, is it?

I might be wrong, but seem to remember that Bill Maher became pro-war only after it began, since there was nothing that could be done to stop it!

He is free to express his views any way he likes, but it doesn't feel right when he fauns over the r-wingers, and that's my LIBERAL point of view!
Having said that, his true feelings emerge from time to time, which is what keeps me tuned in!

Let the pugs go to D.Miller or RL or whatever!

16. I thought she was great
I enjoyed her on there. Hehe. I liked when Maher said something and she playfully hit Carlson on the arm. And what's up with him and the bowtie?

The audience did too!

7. I still like Bill even if I don't always agree with him.
As I posted elsewhere...

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting liberals and conservatives together to talk things out, and Bill's job as moderator is to bring up topics and provoke discussion. That's what I saw happening tonight, and even though it wasn't as "kick-ass" as we all might have liked, in the long run we're going to get further in "winning the hearts and minds" of our fellow Americans with an open dialogue rather than the "us and them" mentality. I agreed with some of what everybody said, and I disagreed with some of what everybody said (except for Tim Robbins, who's ALWAYS right on).

10. Sometimes I think he plays devil's advocate
just to get people riled up and talking. And he's a comedian, after all, not a policy-maker.

12. Then he can play devil's advocate without my watching.
Comedians are not sacred cows. When they say things like torture might be ok, killing Iraqis can be excused, and verge on being anti-islamic, then they hurt our country.

Devil's advocates need to avoid issues this painful. My country is torturing Iraqis, they are killing Iraqi civilians. This is not ok.

13. Well, that's what the remote control is for...
...and why we have 999 choices of things to watch on TV. I certainly don't always agree with Bill, and sometimes I agree with you that he's tasteless and ill-informed, but I appreciate the forum for debate that he provides.

17. At least he's more
fair and balanced then some of these other talk shows out there. I like how he has his panel. One republican, one democrat and someone from the entertainment industry. We never get to hear the entertainment people talk about politics so I do enjoy it whether I agree with them or not (usually I do). I think it's sad how people have this whole "shut up and entertain me" attitude towards those who are in the entertainment field. It's nice to see them talking about things they are concerned about as well. :) They're citizen's too.
