Georgia has set up a Republican Dictatorship as a test
The Georgia Legislature is controlled by the Republicans and the Speaker appoints all Committe Chairs and Vice Chairs. Recently the Speaker of the House rammed through a rule change that allows him the right to appoint as many "Hawks" as he likes that float freely between all committees and can vote on any/all committees:

8
committees as the Speaker may see fit, and the Speaker may fill any vacancy in the offices of chairman, vice chairman, or secretary.
11.8 The Speaker may appoint one or more members to the position of Hawk. The Speaker may designate one of the Hawks as the Senior Hawk. The Hawks shall serve as ex officio members of all standing committees and subcommittees of the House and shall have a vote on all
committees and subcommittees.

In otherwords, no vote gets out of commmittee that isn't controlled by the Speaker.

7. Killing democracy is their goal. Their plan is just now coming together
The right wing hates anyone who opposes them, so it is only logical that they stamp out those who oppose them. The fascist wing of the Republican Party needs to be stopped.

9. Wow
Simply amazing. They tested them in 2002 for Diebold and now this. *sigh* I feel so awful for Georgia. I remember being surprised Roy Barnes was gone. :(

2. I thought Texas was the "national laboratory for bad government".
That's what Molly Ivins says, and I believe her.

How dare Georgia try to usurp Texas's role.

4. NowNow, Copycat Dictatorships are going to use the same rules: propaganda
At least Texas had a group of Democrats who went out of state to avoid the quorum vote :)

But Georgians view things through their own navel, and apparently, both Republicans and Demos are a bit upset over how things are going.

Besides, it may come to another state near you.

3. Believe it or not - Neal Boortz says he's going to work to get Democrats..
..back in power in GA.

No, this is not an endorsement of Boortz but rather a commentary of how some conservatives are finally seeing through the Bush-brand of government.

5. I saw a tread on this a few weeds ago
It is so appalling & out right unconstitutional that it is difficult to know how to respond.

Our Constitutional government is being overthrown under our noses, how do we respond??

6. And Georgia's voting machines are all of the Diebold variety
I don't know how Georgians are going to get themselves out of this mess. Their elections are as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

8. Does Gov.Perdue still have his state-of-emergency powers from G-8 Summit?
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 02:37 PM by DemoTex
Seemed like he was holding on to those powers for long after the G-8 Summit was over. Then there was the reported "shoot-to-kill" order that was to go into effect if the governor got his state-of-emergency.

freedoms and democracy." Apparently, the job is never finished as there will always be those minority people who know best for all. I do know that I will be exercising ALL of my 1st Amendment rights by this summer. I've avoided gun-owning for a lifetime, but from now on it will be: "Granny Get Your Gun!"

12. And smarmyboy Ralph Reed is running for Lt. Gov. next year!
Save us!!!!

This is what happens when one party gets the power.

I mean, the Dems had it for years in GA but they never were this, I don't know, deceitful and meanspirited about it.

There is one bill that is still alive that would let ANY negotiations between two parties (company and a county, for example) remain totally cloaked in secrecy until the deal is signed. How about that landfill they're puttin next door, honey! Ain't it great?

Goddamn assholes, all.

13. Welcome to DU Curt
You are right of course. My political awareness goes back to at least Carter and I can't remember anyone being as brazen as today's GOP. This business in Georgia, the redistricting in Texas, the blatant attempts to manipulate election results by Republican SOS's and elections officials, Steroid Man's shenanigans in California, and on and on. It's ugly.
