CSPAN WATCH - proposed new DU group.

Under the “organization” rule - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... - I proposed we form a new group: CSPAN WATCH.

Draft mission statement.

1. To monitor the next day’s scheduled guests in order to prepare background information and talking points for group members in general and all other interested DU’ers who want to support friends and counter the opposition.
2. Alert DU members to the appearance of friends and opponents.
3. Educate DU members how to reach CSPAN Journal by email and phone.
4. Discuss and suggest future guests.
5. Suggest CSPAN coveraqge of future events.
6. Alert DU to other CSPAN broadcasts.

We would do this by:

1. Monitoring the CSPAN schedule & press releases of future events.
2. Using information databases such as Disinopedia.
3. Discussing strategy away from DU in a member-only Yahoo group.
4. Creating a core of at least seven members who would act as the daily “floor manager”.

If this is of interest, respond here & PM me (include CSPAN in the subject line). So far we have 5 interested; with 5 more, I will take the next steps petitioning the admins and creating the Yahoo group.

7. FANTASTIC IDEA!

I try to watch as much C-Span as possible. Today was extremely enlightening with Tavis Smiley and his Black Forum.

However, before the event started there was a black person on who was pushing the Repuke Agenda.... VERY HARD! He sounded pretty idiotic, but there were blacks who called in and supported him.

He actually was FACTUALLY wrong on several issues, but that didn't seem to matter!

16. DU CSPAN WATCH GROUP'S MISSION STATEMENT

Group formation rule #3: In that thread, members must agree on a proposed mission statement for the DU Group.

We need 10 responses from STAR members agreeing to the MISSION STATEMENT before I can submit the petition to the admins to form a new group.

MISSION STATEMENT:

19. Here's an important addition for your mission statement..

Keep track of the amount of time allotted to rightwing/republican versus leftwing/democrat guests on a daily basis and then call them on it! I don't know about you but I have detected a noticeable slant leaning to the right in recent weeks. I believe it was last weekend when the entire schedule was devoted to the Administration, the American Enterprise Institute and other Republican spokespeople and the only Democrat that was on during the entire day was Nancy Pelosi for about 30 minutes. Since C-Span is provided by the cable companies I don't believe we can expect fairness from them but they should at least know that we are keeping an eye on them.

40. It would be great to have some alerts to CSPAN they have some good

things come up sometimes but I can never figure out when! I love when people on DU post alerts and sometimes I try to as well.
