(This article leaves out an lot of vital information, like that this was done under the supervision, and most likely directed by, U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader TOM DELAY (R-TX). This whole process is barely being reported Locally, Let alone Nationally. This didn't seem to be much of a problem when the mix was 10 Repukes/3 Democrats, but now that it's 7 Repukes/6 Democrats, Tom Delay has shown more interest in Georgia's "problem") :argh:
GOP PUSHES NEW MAP
Redistricting fight moves to full House

Republican legislators appeared Friday to be close to their goal of killing the last of the state's three Democratic-drawn redistricting maps.
After little debate, GOP-run committees in both the House and Senate signed off Friday on a new map of the state's 13 congressional districts. Republicans said they met privately Thursday night and hashed out differences between House and Senate versions of the map.
Democrats criticized GOP legislators for crafting the map behind closed doors and for pushing it through the House reapportionment committee in less than five minutes.
"This is the most blatant misuse of power that I have ever witnessed," said Rep. Barbara Massey (D-Menlo), who serves on the committee.
House Speaker Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) called Massey's criticism "a tad out of touch."
"Everybody in Georgia thinks the current map is wrong, and we're just trying to fix it," he said.
Republicans, presiding over their first session in control of the state Legislature in more than a century, have nursed a grievance against Democrats for using the 2001 redrawing of the state's House, Senate and congressional maps to try to hold onto power.
:grr:The state House and Senate districts were redrawn last year by a panel of federal judges after a successful lawsuit filed by Republicans. But the state's Democratic-drawn congressional map survived the court's scrutiny.:grr:
