Help!!! What Is YOUR 2nd Term Survival Strategy?
The Election Is Over. America Lost!

I've seen lots of different reactions among the left to our "loss". Many have been disillusioned and have left the fight temporarily or for good. Some of my friends took time off and are just now returning to the front lines. I think it is time to rally the disenfranchised a bit!

DUers on the whole are a pretty dedicated and active group of folks. How many of you had to take some time off? Are you still "off". Those of you that are hanging tough, what is your secret? What are you doing? Do you have anything to promote?

I'll do what I can to help you get the word out via my website Distressed American: http:www.seedsofdoubt.com/distresedamerican/main.htm

Me, I make graphics, I rally, I write, I blog, I maintain a website and I cry from time to time.

I'M FEELING LIKE THIS:

MOST OF MY FRIENDS ARE FEELING LIKE THIS:

1. I do Caricatures of political figures.
I'm still working on my technique. My stuff is getting better. I haven't done much with it except share with family and friends, but it's theraputic.

My current project is right wing media hypocrites namely Rush Limbaugh, Bill Bennet, Bill O'Reilly and of course JimmyJeff.

I eventually hope to get them on a website.

That goes for all of you. I am now open for submissions.

Contact me:

Many folks have given me bandwidth for my stuff. Most before I had a site of my own. I'm looking to return the favor!

3. Nice graphics Distressed...
Me?

Well, I'm dealing with this crap one day at a time.

The neocon's plan is to keep us all so busy treading
water we can't get organized. We must!

I know there are more than a few here who fear
we're emulating the lock-step of the RW. Not true!

Because, the hallmark of the left is compromise. Sure
there are things I want... But, I'm willing to work
*with* you so we both end up with the best solution.

The other side... They don't compromise.

5. Yeah, Organization Is Sorely Lacking.
That is what I figure I'l spend a bit of time on today. Trying to get some of the active together on one thread to discuss a bit of strategy.

We've been drifting like crazy since November.

6. I'm a teacher.... and a writer... so I have a lot of contact with...
other teachers, administrators and parents in an attempt to enlighten and change minds (poor parents are usually pretty shocked to learn how NCLB is affecting their child's education).

9. I Teach Anthropology At The University Level
It is a great platform. I have to be very careful not to directly mix my political work and my teaching.

I did take over a prime spot at the center of campus to rally people to VOTE BUSH OUT! Took some heavy pressure from the admin and cops but held my own and eventually they gave me a table?

Moral of the story: Play your cards and play them consistently. Never let them pressure you into stopping!

Slightly old but, one of my faves from the election run-up window:

10. Concentrate all energies toward taking back the House in '06
Then use the power of that control to open hearings on oh so many things. Get Bush under oath and make the little privileged nothing go on record about Enron, Iraq, 9-11 failures, the Venezuela coups and recall, the Haiti coup and many others.

Personally, the chilling reality of the forces of power make me more circumspect for my kids and the family's future. Sadly, the new world of unrestrained greed force us all to be "a little more Republican". What that means for me is not taking the jobs that are most fulfilling, but those which are the most cold-bloodedly lucrative. That also means that monies earned will not be spent, which doesn't help the economy.

It's about the House. Find the stragglers, get our act together and hammer them as tools of the rich, torture lovers, racists, and anything else that presents itself as a weakness. Gird our loins and get over this politeness that keeps us from calling them Class Warfare thugs, and hit them in the face of their methodology: they're trying to establish an economic monarchy and a theocracy. They must be stopped.

Does that answer it?

14. My 2nd term Strategy...
I read anti-Bush/anti-Republican books, which I have a bunch of still to read...I like to visit websites that has Political Satire on it, and read those types of books and watch TV shows that feature this too, which pokes fun at all politicans...but I love the ones that poke fun of Republicans best. Plus I try to keep up on daily news, and discuss it and bitch about it.

15. Netflix
I will be foregoing the "news" for movies, series and oldies that I have not seen. There's a lot out there. I am into the 3rd season of CSI and will start on CSI Miami. My hubby is into "Deadwood."

I have found that I love TV, my widescreen HDTV will provide me with endless mindless entertainment to get me through the next 3.9 years of BushCo.

Not much else I can do. Complaining doesn't help. I'm not much of a whiner anyway. Might as well drown myself in mindless entertainment.

18. I've taken your route - partly
Not totally ignoring politics, but really scaling back. I don't like getting burned by the party that I am supporting and I feel pretty burned.

I'm also disgusted with the high percentage of dumb voting Americans. It has just blown my mind that so many are so dumb about Bush.

Mind needs a rest right now.

16. i've been too angry, too depressed, too distracted
and my friends tell me to back off--stop going online and digging up newspaper articles, stop reading blogs, stop listening to air america, just stop!

one friend shut down on election night

one friend waited until january 6 with the electoral vote confirmation to shut down

and i'm still whirling over the whole thing.

a friend said to me: "it's like you're looking for & collecting evidence on how bad they are. but you don't have to keep proving it. we know it."

and i realized he was right. it's like i keep obsessing with it--i've been too immersed in it and it's killing me. it's taken the joy out of my life--it's become a preoccupation--i can't focus/concentrate like i used to. i'm not happy.

so i guess for my survival of the 2nd term i am going to try to pull way back before it gives me a stroke or heart attack. i'm gonna try to lighten up and every time another bomb (of sorts) drops i'm gonna try to just think: "told you so" rather than keep harboring all this anger and resentment and letting it swell up inside me. it's really taking a toll.

19. I'm kind of where you are at
I felt as though I was obsessing and that the joy in my life was all but robbed.

What really shot me down though was #1 my friend of over 30+ years - supported Bush and is a Republican. Being a Republican I could have accepted until you factor in Bush. It has strained our relationship.
#2 My husband, who doesn't pay attention to politics, isn't involved and just lives his life, told me that Bush would be re elected. He never reads any articles, watches news shows, tries to educate himself in anyway about politics, but he knew that Bush was going to be back in office. (He has NEVER liked Bush)

His apathy came from a former Presidential candidate that won the popular vote and then lost the election, Gore just drove that point home to him again.

It is really disheartening to put your heart and soul into something and have it go so wrong and to be duped into thinking that it could have been different.

I'm stepping back for some enjoyment now and some pressing family matters. After I have licked my wounds, I may resurface and fight another day. But for now, I read here and there, watch the news shows here and there, and try to make up for lost fun times.

Maybe I'll just ask my husband for 08'. He seems to have a good handle on things. I feel like I'm the one living in the clouds, doing the Don Quixote thing. And maybe I'll just try to solve one problem at a time, as it is presented and I'll work at problems that I can actually resolve, or at least help to resolve.
