Dem masses vs. GOP masses. Its what makes them angry.
Democratic masses focus their anger upward at greedy corporate execs. and Govt. spending for unjust wars where as repukes get steamed at a guy with nice clothes using food stamps. The problem for Dems is that it is very easy for the GOP to rile its base with examples seen in everyday life.

1. Gee, I've not once seen a guy in nice cloths using food stamps....
Things like that are urban myths perpetuated by people like Rush
Limbaugh precisely to stir us the anger of those who are easily
manipulated.

4. Yeah, repugs don't shop in the ghetto stores...
I do and I see mostly black people struggling to decide what they can afford to buy and putting stuff back. While some of the food stamp users may be wearing trendy clothes they are not wearing expensive clothes. There is a difference. Personal appearance in the black community is about self respect and feeling good about yourself in a society where many from the majority do not respect or value you because you are not white.

7. And besides....
Many people who receive Food Stamps are working. And if they're a little bit savvy they can find something nice and also affordable to wear. Stereotyping and outright lying about what "they" see at the grocery is common. These days I don't know how people can tell when someone is purchasing groceries when Food Stamps aren't stamps but a credit card. If they saw someone using a paper slip, it could have been a gift certificate. But people see what they want to see when it comes to "welfare". Like you say - urban myths.

2. Please explain
In my part of the country a well dressed man would peg him as a republican. A republican on food stamps? Please tell me it ain't so.

Only people of color and poor white trash (All Liberal Democrats of course) suck off the public teat and use food stamps.

Every thinking person know that to be the God's own truth.

5. ok maybe they have a newer car....
they (repukes) are more worried somebody might be getting something for nothing than voting in their own economic interest.

8. "suck off the public teat"
I know some Republicans who fit that description. They're people who worked in social services jobs along side me their entire careers and who now have a public pension. I call that suckling at the teat of the Dem Party. And then they turn around on election day and stab that breast with an ice pick. It's disgusting.

3. Whatever - Food Stamps and Nice Clothes?
Oh sure nice as in clean from yesterday's laundry or how about Dollar Tree nice. All from a bunch rich fat republicans on some Right-Wing nut bag radio talk show too. Yeah... they sure know what they are talking about.

Give me a day with the likes of Rush Limbaugh so I can drag his fat ass around some inner city neighborhoods where food stamps are used often to SURVIVE!!!

I'm sick of these right wing myth talking points. "Nice clothes" indeed, like the ones Bush wears?

6. gop lies
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 12:39 PM by ayeshahaqqiqa
the only well dressed folks I see in the town where I work are the bankers, lawyers, and preachers, all of whom are Republicans. There are as many "well-dressed food stamp people" as there were "welfare Queens who used their money to buy Cadillacs-that's what Regan talked about twenty years ago. The other implication at that time was that a majority of people on welfare were black, which isn't the case.
