Call Tom Carper Day (about Social Security)
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 03:24 PM by Teaser
Given the relative success of "Call Joe Lieberman day" in at least letting Joe know what's going to happen to him if he sells us out on Social Security, I propose that we try and do the same thing to the other Dem Senator most likely to sitck a shiv in our back on this issue: Delaware's Tom Carper.

For a senatorial neophyte, he has a lot of gall even thinking of bucking the party on this issue. So we gotta show him that the base is serious about this issue, and if he bends on it, we will make sure he doesn't know what it's like to be a second term senator.

Sometime this week or next, depending on feedback, I'm going to organize a "Call Tom Carper" day. In the mean time, why not give him a ring on your own:

202-228-2190 (fax)

1. Thanks! If Joe Lieberman sells us out on Social Security then...
I will NOT vote for him in 2006!

2. What?!?
Did I miss something--as a Delawarean who has spoken to Mr. Carper about a variety of issues, I'm appalled at the thought of him actually voting for privatization. He seems to be environmentally-friendly, so I like him.

Of course, in Delaware, the Republicans serve up far-right (Ray "Crap" Clatworthy) idiots to run and the Green Party only runs candidates in races that are close, ensuring Repuke victory, so the Dems better stay Dems.

3. Yep. He's been flirting with privatization
for a bit now. I have no idea why. Check out Josh Marshall.
Or sometime tomorrow I'll be posting more about him at my blog.

4. I called the Wilmington office - I AM from Delaware -
Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 01:36 PM by cyberpj
I asked about specific bills (HR 440 and HR 750) but the assistant wasn't familiar with those so I asked what Carper's stand was on SS private accounts.

After holding for several minutes, the assistant said, "the senator is not opposed to personal accounts but does not support benefit cuts".

I said I wanted to let him know I was against private accounts, no matter what they decide to call them, and that I wanted congress to raise the caps for the rich plus stop borrowing from SS.

I'll be writing a note as follow up.

FYI - I've never been thrilled with Carper and never really thought of him as a Democrat.
